Almsgiving traditionally points to the practice of giving food or monetary assistance to those less fortunate around us. It is a strongly Catholic value that should be carried throughout families as a way to not just teach children the importance of loving your neighbour, but to instill a sense of generosity within them.

On Day 22 of our 40 Day Reflection, Fiona Biggs speaks to us about teaching our children about almsgiving, and how we can start this practice from home. We are reminded to spend some time with our children to teach them the value of giving, and help them come up with an almsgiving initiative they can do this Lenten season.

St. Joseph is often portrayed as a selfless man, both the father of Jesus and part of the Holy Family. Yet what do we as Catholics know about him beyond that?

On our part as laypeople, we are invited to make a sacrifice of our precious time, and perform a good deed that will benefit someone in our community today.

Perkahwinan adalah salah satu sakramen asas Gereja. Oleh itu, Gereja memandang perkahwinan sebagai perjanjian yang suci dan tidak boleh dipecahkan antara lelaki dan wanita yang memilih untuk bersatu di bawah mata Tuhan.

Namun, disebabkan masyarakat hari ini, lebih ramai pasangan yang menjauhkan diri daripada Tuhan sebagai keutamaan dalam hubungan mereka. Egbert Adolf dan Elena Woo menjemput kami untuk merenung mengapa perkara ini berlaku, dan bantu kami memahami perkara yang boleh dilakukan oleh pasangan suami isteri untuk mengukuhkan ikatan mereka dengan Tuhan melalui hubungan suci mereka.

Day 26 : How to eliminate Pride during Lent? Fr Clarence Devadass. Light of Life : 40 Days Reflection

Pride is one of the deadliest sins that we can struggle with, and Lent is a season that invites us to confront and overcome it.

But why is pride a sin? According to Proverbs 16:18, "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." In other words, pride leads us to overestimate our own abilities and importance, which blinds us to our flaws and weaknesses.

So, what can we do to be more humble? One way is to practice gratitude. When we acknowledge the blessings that we have received from God, we are less likely to take credit for our own achievements.

During this Lenten season, let us pray for the grace to be humble and to prioritize the needs of others. By doing so, we can align ourselves with God's will and experience true joy and freedom.

Fasting is a cornerstone in every Catholic’s Lenten practices. Yet what about those who find fasting difficult, such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women?

Palm Sunday - a day that marks Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem, as prophesied in Zechariah 9:9. The waving of palms represents the joyous welcome that the people of Jerusalem gave to Jesus as he rode into the city on a donkey.

So today, let us join in the celebration of Palm Sunday. Look for palms for each member of the family to bring to Mass, and if you have extra, bring them for someone in church. As we celebrate the beginning of Holy Week, let us remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us, and let us rejoice in the hope and promise of eternal life that he offers us. During Lent, we are called to reflect on our lives and identify areas where we have strayed from God's path. This may include bad habits or behaviors that lead to sin. Through repentance, we can acknowledge these shortcomings and ask God for forgiveness.

So today, let us take a moment to examine our conscience and turn back to God. Spend 30 minutes reflecting on how we can change our bad habits and turn towards God with a new beginning. Through repentance, we can experience a transformation of heart and a renewed sense of purpose. May we all experience the peace and joy that come from being reconciled with God.
