🏦 DEUTSCHE BANK IS BRINGING BITCOIN CUSTODY TO INSTITUTIONS
Deutsche Bank plans to launch regulated digital-asset custody for institutional and corporate clients in Europe this year.
Bitcoin will be supported from launch alongside Ether and selected stablecoins.
The bank will manage:
• Client wallets
• Private keys
• Warm and cold storage
• Transfers to third parties
Its target clients include asset managers, hedge funds, brokers, corporates, custodians and even sovereign institutions.
Important: the rollout still depends on completion of the applicable regulatory process.
This is another major global bank building the infrastructure institutions need to hold BTC directly.

⛏ BITDEER MINES 1,310 BTC — BUT ENDS AUGUST HOLDING JUST 61
Bitcoin miner Bitdeer produced 1,310 BTC in August, up 249% from a year earlier.
Its mining capacity also expanded sharply:
• Proprietary hashrate: 84.1 EH/s
• August 2025: 30.3 EH/s
But its Bitcoin treasury moved the opposite direction.
BTC held:
July: 257 BTC
August: 61 BTC
August 2025: 1,934 BTC
That distinction matters.
Higher Bitcoin production does not automatically mean miners are accumulating BTC on their balance sheets.
Bitdeer is dramatically expanding computing capacity while retaining far less of the Bitcoin it produces.

🏦 DEUTSCHE BANK IS PREPARING TO CUSTODY BITCOIN
Deutsche Bank plans to launch regulated digital-asset custody for institutional and corporate clients in Europe this year.
The service is expected to support Bitcoin alongside other selected digital assets, subject to completion of the regulatory process.
Instead of institutions having to build their own wallet and private-key infrastructure, Deutsche Bank would manage custody within its existing banking framework.
This is the important part:
One of Europe’s largest banks is moving from observing Bitcoin infrastructure to actually providing the rails institutions need to hold it.
Institutional Bitcoin adoption increasingly looks less like “crypto banking” — and more like banking simply adding Bitcoin.

📈 BITCOIN ETF FLOWS FLIP BACK POSITIVE
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $159.5M in net inflows on Sept. 17, ending a two-session run of heavy withdrawals.
Recent flows:
• Sept. 15: -$450.4M
• Sept. 16: -$295.9M
• Sept. 17: +$159.5M
BlackRock’s IBIT drove the rebound with:
+$183.7M
Fidelity’s FBTC saw - 7.6M.
One positive session does not erase the previous $746M+ of selling.
But it does show institutional demand returning after two of September’s weakest ETF sessions.

⛏ BITDEER MINES 1,310 BTC IN AUGUST — UP 249% YEAR-OVER-YEAR
Bitcoin miner Bitdeer produced 1,310 BTC during August.
That represents a 249% increase from the same period last year.
Its infrastructure now includes:
• 79.9 EH/s self-mining hashrate
• 21.6 EH/s co-mining hashrate
At the same time, Bitdeer continues expanding aggressively into AI and high-performance computing infrastructure.
That combination is increasingly important across the mining industry:
Bitcoin miners are no longer just competing for blocks.
Many are trying to monetize the same power, land and data-center infrastructure across both BTC mining and AI compute.

🏢 A BITCOIN TREASURY COMPANY DOESN’T HAVE TO BUY BTC EVERY WEEK
Strategy provided a useful example this month.
Between Sept. 8 and Sept. 13, the company:
• Bought no Bitcoin
• Sold no Bitcoin
• Kept 845,050 BTC on its balance sheet
• Used $139.3M of USD cash to repurchase STRC preferred shares
Why does this matter?
Bitcoin treasury companies are not simply automatic BTC-buying machines.
They also manage cash, debt, preferred stock, equity issuance and their cost of capital.
Sometimes the best move for a Bitcoin treasury may be buying BTC.
Other times it may be strengthening the financial structure around the BTC it already owns.
Understanding that distinction makes corporate Bitcoin activity much easier to read.

🔐 WHAT DOES BANK CUSTODY ACTUALLY CHANGE FOR BITCOIN?
More banks are preparing to hold BTC for institutional clients.
But bank custody does NOT change Bitcoin itself.
The network still has:
• The same 21M supply cap
• The same consensus rules
• The same proof-of-work system
• The same settlement layer
What changes is the infrastructure around it.
Instead of an institution managing private keys, multisig policies, recovery procedures and operational security internally, a regulated custodian can handle those responsibilities.
That lowers operational friction.
It also introduces something Bitcoin was designed to let users avoid:
Counterparty risk.
Institutional custody is therefore not a replacement for self-custody.
It is another way of accessing the same Bitcoin network.

📊 BITCOIN ETF INFLOWS DO NOT CREATE NEW BTC
When $500M flows into Bitcoin ETFs, that does NOT mean $500M of new Bitcoin suddenly enters existence.
Bitcoin issuance still follows the protocol.
The maximum supply remains 21 million BTC.
What ETF demand can change is who competes for the Bitcoin that already exists — and for the new BTC miners produce.
Strong ETF demand can force the fund ecosystem to source more BTC.
Outflows can create the opposite pressure.
That is why ETF flows matter:
Not because they change Bitcoin’s supply rules.
Because they can materially change demand for a supply that the protocol refuses to expand on command.

🏦 BITCOIN ETFs PULL IN $433M — AND SAVE THE WEEK
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $433M in net inflows on Friday, their strongest session since Sept. 3.
Fidelity led the rebound:
• FBTC: +$310.7M
• BlackRock IBIT: +$108.4M
• BITB: +$9.7M
• HODL: +$2.3M
• ARKB: +$1.9M
That single session was enough to push the entire week narrowly back into positive territory.
Weekly net flow:
+$6.2M
Not a huge weekly number — but significant considering Tuesday and Wednesday alone saw roughly $746M leave the funds.
Institutional demand recovered just enough to offset one of September’s sharpest midweek selloffs.

🐋 ON-CHAIN: MARA-LINKED WALLETS ADD 1,292 BTC
On-chain trackers have identified a 1,292 BTC acquisition linked to Bitcoin miner MARA Holdings.
Estimated value:
~$98.6M
The BTC arrived through institutional trading firm FalconX.
The transaction is especially notable because MARA spent much of 2026 selling Bitcoin to fund debt reduction, mining operations and its expansion into AI/HPC infrastructure.
Important distinction:
The transaction has been identified through on-chain analytics.
MARA has not publicly announced the purchase through an SEC filing or company press release.
So the blockchain activity is visible — but the company’s exact strategic rationale remains unconfirmed.

⛏ BITCOIN MINING HASHRATE IS ~50% BELOW ITS LONG-TERM TREND
A new CoinShares mining report highlights a major structural shift inside Bitcoin mining.
According to the research:
• Network hashrate is roughly 50% below its modeled trend
• The network has experienced its first six-month hashrate decline since China’s 2021 mining ban
• Listed miners produced BTC at an average cash cost of ~$75,500 in Q2
• At least 35 EH/s of listed-miner capacity is scheduled to leave
One major reason:
AI infrastructure is competing directly with Bitcoin mining for power.
CoinShares estimates AI compute can generate around $1.5M per MW annually versus roughly $0.5M for BTC mining under current conditions.
Bitcoin’s network is not “shutting down.”
But miner economics are changing — and electricity is increasingly going to whichever workload pays more.

🏦 BITCOIN ENTERS THE LIFE-INSURANCE MARKET
Bitcoin Life has received a full licence in Guernsey to operate as an international long-term life insurance company.
Its first product is a whole-of-life investment-linked insurance bond built around Bitcoin.
Clients can fund the policy using BTC or fiat, while the policy value can remain invested in Bitcoin.
Institutional custody and trading are provided by BitGo Europe.
The interesting part is the use case:
Bitcoin is increasingly being integrated not only into ETFs and corporate treasuries — but into traditional wealth and estate-planning structures.
This does not change Bitcoin itself.
It changes the financial infrastructure being built around long-term BTC ownership.
