✅ The Centre has halted approval of new hydropower projects in the upper Ganga Basin (Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers) while allowing 7 ongoing projects to continue in Uttarakhand.

✅ Two Asiatic lion cubs in Gir National Park have died due to a suspected Babesia infection.
✅ Three other lion deaths were attributed to natural causes and territorial conflicts.

📍 What is Babesia Infection?
✅ A tick-borne parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Babesia.
✅ Belongs to the phylum Apicomplexa and order Piroplasmida.
✅ The parasite invades and multiplies within red blood cells (RBCs).

📍 How Does It Affect the Host?
✅ Causes destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis).
✅ May lead to severe anemia, jaundice, and organ stress.
✅ Highly virulent strains can trigger:
✅ Hypotensive shock
✅ Blood clotting abnormalities
✅ Generalized inflammation
✅ Blockage of capillaries (erythrocytic stasis)

📍 Distribution
✅ Found worldwide in regions where tick vectors are present.
✅ Common in tropical, subtropical, and temperate climates.
✅ Persists in wildlife populations, including the Gir ecosystem.

📍 Symptoms
✅ High fever
✅ Weakness and lethargy
✅ Respiratory distress
✅ Severe anemia
✅ Jaundice
✅ Hemoglobinuria (dark-colored urine due to hemoglobin loss)

✅ Zoonotic Disease: Humans can also be infected, especially immunocompromised individuals.

✅ Anti-protozoal drugs such as Imidocarb Dipropionate and Diminazene Aceturate.

✅ The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016 has completed a decade of operation, emerging as a major reform in India’s credit market, corporate governance, and insolvency resolution framework.

📍 What is IBC?
✅ Enacted in 2016 as a unified insolvency law replacing multiple fragmented legislations.
✅ Provides a creditor-driven, legally binding, and time-bound mechanism for resolving insolvency of companies, partnership firms, and individuals.
✅ Aims to maximize asset value, improve credit discipline, and ensure faster recovery for creditors.

📍 Key Features
✅ Single Consolidated Framework: Integrates multiple insolvency laws into one code.
✅ Time-Bound Resolution: Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) follows strict timelines.
✅ Creditor-in-Control Model: Management shifts from promoters to the Committee of Creditors (CoC).
✅ Two-Tier Adjudication: NCLT handles corporate insolvency; DRT deals with individuals and partnership firms.
