🚨 Bitcoin ETFs Hit $2.8 Billion Inflow Streak

US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded six consecutive days of inflows, attracting over $2.8 billion in new capital since September 17. This surge highlights a massive return of institutional interest in digital assets.

On Monday alone, investors poured nearly $1 billion into these funds, the highest single-day inflow since October 6, when the market saw $1.2 billion enter and the price hit an all-time high of $126,080. Major players like BlackRock, Fidelity, and MS manage these significant capital movements.

The rally pushed the estimated ETF cost basis above $81,722. Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart noted that the average ETF holder is now back in profit for the first time since January.

🔴 SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce to leave post on Oct. 2

Hester Peirce, widely known as "Crypto Mom" for her long-standing advocacy of the digital asset industry, has officially submitted her resignation from the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Her final day at the agency will be October 2, ending an eight-year tenure.

Peirce has served as the director of the SEC Crypto Task Force since early 2025. She is celebrated in the industry for pushing for clear, rules-based regulation and consistently opposing the "regulation by enforcement" strategy that targeted many crypto firms in previous years.

💰 SEC clears path for crypto token buybacks as volume hits record $638M

Crypto projects spent a record $638 million on token buybacks through late August 2026, surpassing the $545 million total from 2025. Hyperliquid accounted for $370 million while Pump.fun spent $200 million, together representing nearly 90% of the market activity.

The SEC Division of Corporation Finance issued new guidance clarifying that buyback announcements for non-security crypto assets on functional networks fall outside "essential managerial efforts." This reduces the risk of such programs being classified as investment contracts under the Howey test.

💰 Riot Platforms Repays $200M Debt to Coinbase

Bitcoin mining giant Riot Platforms has fully repaid a $200 million credit facility from Coinbase Credit. The repayment, completed this Monday, was officially confirmed in a recent SEC filing.

By settling the remaining principal and interest, Riot has successfully released its collateral. This collateral previously consisted of a mix of Bitcoin, USDC, and cash held under the custody of Coinbase Custody Trust Company.

The company reported that no early termination fees or penalties were incurred during the prepayment process. This move significantly strengthens the miner's balance sheet and frees up its digital asset reserves.

🚨 Cosmos Hub Validators Intercept 1.23 Million Stolen ATOM

Cosmos Hub validators successfully secured 1,227,121 ATOM stolen during a Sept. 22 governance attack on the Neutron network. The attacker had moved roughly 1.73 million ATOM to the Hub before validators intervened to freeze the assets.

To stop the thief, validators representing over 67% of voting power halted the blockchain and applied an emergency software patch, v28.3.0. This one-time state change diverted the funds from the attacker’s address to a secure recovery multisig wallet before transactions resumed.

The intercepted funds are currently held by six signers, including Nansen, Keplr, and Polkachu. However, the signers have stated they will not release the assets to affected users or protocols until a separate Cosmos Hub governance signaling proposal is officially passed.

💰 US Bitcoin ETFs Hit $2.4 Billion Weekly Inflow Record

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their strongest week of 2026, drawing a massive $2.39 billion in net inflows. This marks the highest weekly total since October 2025, surpassing the previous yearly peak of $1.92 billion set in August.

The surge helped year-to-date flows recover to $926 million, bouncing back from a deep $5.55 billion deficit seen in early July. While daily inflows slowed on Friday to $134.5 million, the overall momentum remains strong despite BTC pulling back from its $87,100 high.

Other assets also saw institutional interest, with Ether ETFs attracting $690 million and XRP ETFs adding $76 million. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index currently sits at 74, indicating a state of "Greed" in the market as institutional capital continues to flow into digital asset products.

🚨 Nearly 5,000 BTC leaves Bitget as hackers begin laundering $387M haul

Bitget has reopened Bitcoin withdrawals following a massive $387.5 million security breach. Since the restart, tracked reserves have dropped by approximately 4,642 BTC, worth roughly $391 million at current prices.

CEO Gracy Chen confirmed the exchange processed over 9,500 withdrawal orders totaling 4,098 BTC shortly after resuming service. The hack was traced to compromised credentials from a third-party vendor, which allowed attackers to bypass internal risk controls.

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT reports that hackers, allegedly linked to North Korea, are already laundering the stolen funds. The assets are being moved through THORChain, Wasabi, and various cross-chain bridges to obscure the trail and prevent recovery.

🚨 BitMine to control 5% of total Ethereum supply by November

BitMine Immersion Technologies is on track to reach its goal of holding 5% of the total Ethereum (ETH) supply by early November. The company currently holds 6,001,302 ETH, which is approximately 4.9% of the 122.1 million circulating supply.

Data shows BitMine has been acquiring an average of 21,600 ETH every week. To hit the 5% milestone of 6.105 million ETH, the firm only needs to acquire another 103,700 ETH, which it will likely achieve in less than five weeks.

Chairman Tom Lee stated that once the target is reached, the company might sell staking rewards—the interest earned for helping secure the network—to maintain the 5% cap. BitMine reported $45.7 million in revenue from staking and validation in a single quarter ending May 31.

💰 Institutions and Sovereign Funds Swapping Gold for Bitcoin

Bitwise Head of Research Ryan Rasmussen reveals that major institutions, including Sovereign Wealth Funds, are actively selling Gold to allocate into Bitcoin. A new institutional adoption report shows these entities now treat BTC alongside gold as a primary hedge against currency debasement.

Data shows that during the volatility where Bitcoin dropped from $125,000 to $60,000, none of the 15 major institutions interviewed by Bitwise sold their holdings. Instead, many used the price dip to increase their positions.

Major players like Fidelity and BlackRock are maintaining Bitcoin allocations between 2% and 8%, while Wells Fargo holds a 2-3% allocation. The report highlights that ETFs have made the current market cycles shallower by providing consistent liquidity.

💰 Bitcoin ETF Holders Near Loss Threshold Ahead of US Data

Bitcoin is trading near $83,000, sitting precariously above the critical $81,722 level. Bloomberg analyst James Seyffart identifies this price as the average cost basis for Bitcoin ETF holders. A decline of just 2.2% would put the average institutional buyer back into a net loss.

The market is bracing for a massive economic data dump on Wednesday. At 8:30 a.m. ET, the US will release PCE inflation figures, GDP estimates, and personal income data. These reports follow the ADP private employment report scheduled for 8:15 a.m. ET.

Analysts warn that "hotter" inflation data could spike bond yields, potentially pushing BTC below the $81,722 support and toward the 365-day moving average at $80,500. Conversely, soft inflation data could trigger a test of the $84,000 to $85,000 supply zone.

🚨 Bitget Hackers Turn to Zcash After $50M Laundering Route Blocked

Hackers behind the $387.5 million Bitget breach are now using Zcash (ZEC) privacy features to move stolen funds. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT flagged 2,746 ZEC worth roughly $3.9 million being moved into the Ironwood shielded pool, which conceals transaction details from public view.

This shift follows a failed attempt to move $50 million through the NEAR protocol. While NEAR’s risk system blocked most of those transactions, the hackers successfully used THORChain to swap $79 million worth of ETH for Bitcoin. THORChain has resisted requests to block the stolen assets.

💰 Bitcoin ETFs Record $6.3B Inflows in Strongest Q3 Since 2017

US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $6.34 billion in net inflows during the third quarter of 2026. This massive capital injection helped BTC surge by 42.71%, marking its best third-quarter performance in nearly a decade.

The Q3 results represent a major recovery, reversing approximately $5 billion in net outflows seen in the second quarter. August was the strongest month of the period with $3.52 billion in inflows, followed by September at $2.65 billion.

Institutional interest extended to altcoins as well. Ether ETFs saw $3.05 billion in net inflows as the ETH price jumped 71%. Meanwhile, XRP funds added $308 million, and Solana and Zcash ETFs drew significant capital in September.

⚖️ SEC Proposes New Rules for Institutional Crypto Custody

The SEC has officially proposed a tailored framework to clarify how registered investment advisers and regulated funds can legally hold crypto assets. This move aims to replace decades-old rules from 1940 that have left institutional investors in a state of regulatory uncertainty for years.

The proposal would allow crypto to be held in self-custody under specific conditions and permits state trust companies to act as qualified custodians for client funds. It also updates financial audit requirements for advisers and broker-dealer custodial services managing digital assets.

🚨 US Bankers Sue to Overturn Crypto Trust Bank Rules

The Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) has filed a federal lawsuit against the OCC to invalidate rules that allow crypto firms to obtain national trust bank charters. The lawsuit, filed in Washington, targets the OCC’s national trust bank rule and Interpretive Letter 1176, arguing the regulator exceeded its authority.

The ICBA claims the OCC is allowing non-depository crypto businesses to operate under a lighter regulatory framework than traditional insured banks. According to the complaint, 13 of the 21 trust banks approved or conditionally approved by the OCC are tied to the crypto industry.

🇷🇺 Russia Pays Government Salaries in Digital Ruble for First Time

The Russian Ministry of Finance has officially started paying employee wages using the digital ruble, marking a major milestone for the country's Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). The rollout began on October 1 and is currently operating on a voluntary basis for government staff.

🚨 New SEC Rules to Impact Stablecoin Liquidity

The SEC is implementing new rules requiring US Treasury transactions to pass through central clearinghouses. This shift directly impacts stablecoin issuers like Tether and Circle, who hold billions in Treasury securities to back their tokens.

The rules aim to reduce market risk by making a clearinghouse the middleman for every trade. If a trading partner fails, the clearinghouse ensures the transaction is completed. This adds a layer of safety but changes the cost and mechanics of borrowing cash against these assets.

Stablecoin companies rely on "repos" (repurchase agreements) to quickly turn their Treasury holdings into USD when customers want to redeem tokens. The SEC deadlines are Dec. 31 for outright sales and June 30, 2027, for repos.
