Anthropic says a commercial influence platform targeting Malaysian politics was shut down, with Claude used across the operation.
The setup turned out to be pretty wild:
๐222 constituencies profiled using real census and electoral data, with voters mapped around race, religion and royalty
๐1,000+ fake X accounts, complete with warm-up periods, rotating IPs and tools for manufacturing engagement
๐A fake newsroom, Malaysia Pulse, which scraped real reporting, rewrote it with Claude and published it under invented bylines
๐Fabricated intelligence dossiers aimed at an opposition politician and civil-society groups
Anthropic traced the infrastructure back to BBS Biliลim Teknolojileri, a Turkish technology company based in Istanbul. The investigation found that the company was selling access to the platform as an 'influence-as-a-service' product to paying clients. The system was marketed as a 'military-grade, AI-driven, real-time political operations ecosystem'.

A revised UPI Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework will take effect on select merchant (P2M) transactions starting October 15, 2026, while keeping UPI completely free of cost for consumers and all transactions up to โน2,000. Under the new rules, small merchants earning up to โน1 lakh per month via QR codes will pay zero MDR, a flat โน5 fee will apply to transactions above โน2,000 in specific categories like railways and fuel, and other high-value P2M transactions will attract a 0.4% charge capped at โน300. The initiative also introduces a dedicated fund to upgrade digital payment infrastructure for small vendors and Tier 3 markets.
No impact on small-value UPI transactions up to โน2,000 for all merchants, which account for more than 95% of all UPI P2M transactions.
