India’s defense propulsion ecosystem

with key cruise missile, UAV, and fighter jet engine programs already produced or tracking toward completion between 2030-35. The Aatmanirbhar initiative bridges state-backed defense organizations with dynamic deep-tech startups pioneering localized micro-turbines.

Currently missing from the matrix are large high-bypass turbofans and turboprops, which will most likely be indigenously achieved through the following roadmaps:

🎀 High-Bypass Turbofans for Transport: India's high-bypass turbofans for MTA/HTA will be a scaled version of the 110–120 kN low-bypass turbofan core (similar to the GE F101 core scaled into the CFM56 for 737 / A320, and Snecma M88 core evolved into SaM146)
🎀 Turboprops: Early feasibility and design work are underway by CSIR-NAL and DRDO a turboprop engine for Saras MkII targeting 2035–38, if sustained; in the interim, the Saras MkII aims for civilian certification by 2031 utilizing Pratt & Whitney test engines to speed up airframe validation.

Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup Armatrix is targeting 10–12 industrial pilots ahead of the full commercial rollout of its snake-like robotic arms in 2028.

Featuring over 22 degrees of freedom, the 3–5 metre arms are designed to navigate hyper-confined, hazardous spaces across the shipbuilding, oil & gas, and nuclear sectors. By housing all electronics in an external sealed box and relying purely on mechanical links, the arms can safely perform inspections, welding, and painting inside highly flammable or high-temperature zones where traditional robots fail.

India’s first networked orbital data centre by Hyderabad startup TakeMe2Space is launching in 2028.

The Generation-2 satellites pack Nvidia GPUs, 1,500W of computing power, and 100 TB of storage to process data directly in orbit via optical links.

By computing data before sending it to Earth, founder Ronak Kumar Samantray notes the tech will slash ground station download costs from $2,000 down to just $20 for the exact same ROI. #Space #Startups
