Report: Manchester City closes in on deal with Atlético Madrid’s Rodri
Media Rodri has been linked to Bayern Munich, but it appears that Pep Guardiola has beat the Bavarians to the punch. Bayern Munich transfer target Rodrigo Hernandez (aka Rodri) might be nearing a deal with Manchester City per a report from Spanish outlet El País. The Atlético Madrid defensive midfielder is allegedly discussing a contract with Pep Guardiola and the rest of the Manchester City brass now as the Citizens are said to be activating Rodri’s release clause.Per the report from El País: After about a month evaluating his decision, Rodrigo Hernández (Madrid, 22 years old) has chosen Manchester City to continue his career. Rodrigo has chosen where he wants to play for years to come. He believes that his place in football and his progression are more bearable and more feasible in a team led by Pep Guardiola than in one trained by Diego Pablo Simeone. City, which has been chosen ahead of Atletico, Bayern Munich, PSG and Manchester United, will pay the 70 million euro (release) clause. In addition, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano backed up the report from El País: Manchester City have just confirmed to Atlético Madrid they’re going to pay the release clause for Rodri. Final price: €70M. The player is discussing his contract now. #transfers #MCFC #Atleti #ManCity #Rodri— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) June 18, 2019Bayern has been looking at Rodri to potentially be a part of the defensive midfield mix, which currently includes Thiago Alcantara and Javi Martínez. Should Rodri officially sign with Manchester City, Bayern’s attention might shift quickly back to other potential targets like Manchester City’s Leroy Sane, Hertha Berlin’s Niklas Stark, or RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner. An interesting side note to this story could be how accurate Romano is with his report. As one of the primary journalists who has been tied into the Sane saga, Romano and Bild’s Christian Falk had a minor row with dueling reports on the Sane-to-Bayern rumors a few weeks ago. If the Rodri moves goes through, perhaps Romano is more tied into the inner-workings of Manchester City than originally thought. Read more...

Switzerland v Spain - UEFA Euro 2020: Quarter-finalPhoto by Gonzalo Arroyo - UEFA/UEFA via Getty ImagesCould Julian Nagelsmann be looking to bring in one of his old players?RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo opened up some eyes globally with his play for Spain in the European Championships, but Bundesliga fans were already well aware of the talent that the 23-year-old holds. One club that might be willing to make a move to acquire that talent is Bayern Munich — per Italian journalist Rudy Galetti. In a tweet, Galetti stated that Olmo is being eyed by several top clubs, including the Bavarians. What makes the prospect of Olmo joining Bayern Munich a little more tangible than some other clubs is that Olmo’s former boss — Julian Nagelsmann — is now at the helm of the German giants:Dani #Olmo, protagonist of the #Euro2020 semifinal against #Italy, is followed by many top clubs in Europe. Above all #BayernMunich: #Nagelsmann coached him at #RBLeipzig and would like him back in #Bavaria. #Atleti and #RealMadrid are interested too. ⚽️ #Transfers— Rudy Galetti (@RudyGaletti) July 8, 2021Olmo, who is currently valued at €45 million by Transfermarkt, is certainly too expensive for Bayern Munich to chase during this window. With a contract ending in 2024, however, Bayern Munich could be in a position to bid on the versatile Spaniard next summer.Olmo, who has recently been linked to Real Madrid, can play as an attacking midfielder or at either wing position. Nagelsmann values that type of versatility for his roster and his familiarity with Olmo could make things very interesting next summer.
