Here are some quick hitters on the match:The starting XI for Julian Nagelsmann did not really feature any surprises. Matthijs de Ligt went back to the bench, while Alphonso Davies stepped back into the starting XI.STARTING XI | Here is how we line up in our fixture against Gladbach today! #FCBBMG pic.twitter.com/AY4n429mUT— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) August 27, 2022It’s weird...I felt Bayern Munich was thoroughly dominant, but there was just something missing in the final third for the squad. One costly mistake was really all it took. Per Sofascore.com, Bayern Munich had an astounding 33 shots and 69% of the possession...yet still only came away with a 1-1 draw. Totally maddening...There is no reason to think Bayern Munich’s attack is going to face many teams that will be able to keep them off the scoreboard, but every time it happens, there will absolutely be questions about the team’s lack of a true No. 9. It’s inevitable, whether any of us agree or disagree with it. The local media will make it a focal point of discussion. For the man who made that aforementioned defensive miscue, Dayot Upamecano, it was really the only major mistake of the match for him, but one that made some folks automatically remember the Frenchman’s up-and-down 2021/22 season. With De Ligt on the bench, just waiting for a chance, those kinds of mistakes could give the coaching staff an incentive to make a change.Marcus Thuram showed he can still be a handful on that play as well. Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić storming off after that play was interesting. Manuel Neuer didn’t really give Upamecano much help on that play either, with a questionable angle as he tried to make a play. This was probably also Lucas Hernández’s least efficient game of the season — though he wasn’t bad. That just shows you how good he has been. I’m guessing we’ll see De Ligt and Pavard at center-back against Viktoria Köln (though Pavard could also get rested completely).Sadio Mané has been a fantastic acquisition for Bayern Munich...there is no doubt about that. However, he does have to get a little more synced up with his timing (it will happen) so he can avoid those offside calls that have been just about the black mark on his record so far.I don’t want to say Florian Neuhaus was bad (he wasn’t), but his game definitely stagnated to a point where he is definitely not a player who would be on Bayern Munich’s radar.I thought each of Bayern Munich’s attackers were good on the day. Maybe not efficient enough to score more, but good.Using De Ligt as a No. 9 is not really anything to panic about and it wasn’t a bad idea given how good he is with headers. I would, however, like to see more of the Dutchman in the starting XI at his natural position.Sommer was great again, wasn’t he?Yann Sommer broke the Bundesliga…

Earlier today, the status of Bayern Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel was still in major doubt ahead of the team’s Bundesliga clash with Borussia Mönchengladbach this weekend. Tuchel fell ill earlier this week with the flu and has not been able to shake it as of yet. However, Bayern Munich eventually wore down Die Fohlen for a 3-1 victory. There was a lot to talk about, so let’s get to it: As always, let’s take a look at Thomas Tuchel’s starting lineup: | STARTING XI
C'MON, BOYS! ⚪️ #FCBBMG pic.twitter.com/PqTG5IlX2G— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) February 3, 2024Admittedly, I didn’t expect Thomas Müller, Leon Goretzka, or Noussair Mazraoui to get starting nods, but I did feel like they all should have, so it was a pleasant surprise. In 5th minute, Leroy Sané found himself wide open — a rare occurence in a game like this — but he hit the crossbar. In the 10th, minute, Müller fed Sané perfectly, but — again — Sané bricked on his attempt. The good thing is that Sané did not turtle up; he kept working and fighting.Bayern Munich was thoroughly dominant to that point, but did cede some control of the match after that. That first 10-minute period was pretty brilliant and creative. Overall, Bayern Munich played fast, tough, and with urgency. It was a great start to the match. Sané had a couple of unforced errors early as well. His movement and tenacity were on-point, but he was “off” otherwise. There was a lot of interchanging of positions in the attack, but things were most dangerous with Müller centrally. Later in the first half, Sané airmailed another shot really badly, but it was very clear that he was not going be deterred. Even on a day where his finishing was clearly off, it did not appear to affect him. Knowing Sané’s ability to get down on himself or lose confidence, his resilience through those moments was absolutely more important for the long-term of this season than the misses. I’m writing this as someone not always a fan of Sané’s streakiness and his attitude. The team, however, needs him to stay positive. The acquisition of Eric Dier caught a lot of heat, but he has been pretty good — and was cheap/free. The Englishman would go on to have several spectacular stops in the match.Kane almost put Bayern Munich up 1-0 on a free kick but a great save from Gladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas prevented that.During a scramble in the 32nd minute, De Ligt and Dier had goal saving plays in front of Manuel Neuer while the rest of the team wilted around them. The Bayern Munich shakiness would eventually pay off for Gladbach, though. In the 35th minute a long, groundball pass from Neuer to Muller didn’t work out as Gladbach’s Nico Elvedi won the ball and was off to the races. After a nice one-two pass on the break, Elvedi fired a quality finish and gave Die Fohlen 1-0 lead. It was a big gaffe from Neuer to play the initial ball where he did. In the 45th minute, some nice work from Sané to Müller resulted in the Raumdeueter sliding a perfect pass to a darting Aleksander Pavlović. The youngster buried his attempt to knot the game at 1-1.The more we see of Pavlović, the less enthused I get when hear Tuchel talk about needing a No. 6. Like I have been all season, I am content with the current options Bayern Munich has in the midfield. The first…

FC Bayern Munich Training Session Photo by Stefan Matzke - sampics/Getty Images Bayern Munich is preparing for Gladbach... Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala is working hard in his attempt to return for the German national team’s UEFA Nationals semifinal vs. Portugal. The youngster, who has been been battling the effects of a hamstring tear, has had a long road back to the pitch, but has started to work with the ball once again. Magenta TV journalist Victor Catalina captured some video footage and provided the details. Do not get too excited, though, Musiala workout only lasted 21 minutes:Das ging schnell.

FC Bayern Munich - Borussia Mönchengladbach Photo by Sven Hoppe/picture alliance via Getty Images Bayern Munich had a nice celebration, eh? Die Folgen: Bayern’s 2-0 win over Gladbach (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich took down Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0 in a match that the Bavarians were in complete control of from start to finish. It was a proper send off for Thomas Müller and Eric Dier and a great way to end the home season in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich will finish up the league schedule with Hoffenheim next week, but we have plenty to chatr about with this match, so let’s get to it. Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with the starting XI: !
Here’s how we line up against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
#FCBBMG #FCBayern #MiaSanMia pic.twitter.com/2IN9uaMrN4— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) May 10, 2025Vincent Kompany did a great job with his lineup. Starting Thomas Müller was a must and the coach read the room properly. Otherwise, there were some interesting selections as Raphaël Guerreiro was deemed healthy enough to start, while Leon Goretzka got the somewhat surprising nod over Aleksandar Pavlović. Kingsley Coman started over both Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry. The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing at the Allianz Arena. The pregame ceremony honoring Müller and Eric Dier was done with class.Bayern Munich was dominant from the outset and it seemed like it was only a matter of time before it broke through. That would happen in the 31st minute when Michael Olise continued his torrid season and whipped a shot in toward the net that Harry Kane got the back of his head on for a perfect flick and a 1-0 lead.Manuel Neuer was sensational on the day in his return. You cannot really comprehend how great the crowd and atmosphere was. The arena was just buzzing. Bayern Munich was looking to try and get a goal, but it just wasn’t to be (there was not the same magic that Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry had). In the 60th minute, Neuer showed he still has those dynamic reflexes by stopping Rocco Reitz. Reitz was very impressive in the match and looks like he is living up to his billing as one of Germany’s top talents. In the 64th minute Pavlović, who subbed in for a banged up Josip Stanišić, almost gave Bayern a 2-0 lead. In the 79th minute (Tim Kleindienst) and 80th minute (Kevin Stöger), Neuer was, again, tested and stood tall. What a game for the veteran!Olise would end up getting a goal at the 90’ mark, cementing an awesome day for the Bavarians. Overall, this was what everyone wanted to see. It would have been the icing on the cake to get a goal for Müller, but it was still a great effort and a nice way to kick off the championship celebration.
