@FCBayernEN: Mats Hummels: "It's difficult to find words. We have believed until the end and we had many chances. We had to risk it all in the end" #KORGER https://ift.tt/2yKdwlS
@FCBayernEN: Manuel Neuer: "We lacked commitment. Even if we would’ve gone through, in the next round or the round afterwards we would’ve been knocked out. We deserved to be eliminated. We didn’t convince in any game. This was not the #GER we all know. It was pathetic." #KORGER https://ift.tt/2lDd1AH
Twitter explodes as Germany crash out of the World Cup
FIFA World Cup 2018 produced yet another headline-generating upset as Germany, the defending champions, were ignominiously ruled out of the tournament. The Group F topsy-turvy ended with Sweden and Mexico qualifying for the knockout stages courtesy of a giant-killing by South Korea. As such, Germany stand last in the group with only 3 points in hand.Joachim Löw’s side opened their World Cup campaign in a very unpromising fashion as they suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Mexico before securing a last-minute winner against Sweden.Needless to say, Twitterati lost its cool over Germany’s elimination.Shocker in Russia! With loss to South Korea, Germany fails to advance to the round of 16 at the FIFA #WorldCup for the first time. pic.twitter.com/lSAjQTxm1d— FOX Sports (@FOXSports) June 27, 2018Germany pic.twitter.com/0NMPMM8qU4— LUKA DONČIĆ STAN (@dawctorJ) June 27, 2018South Korea 2 – 0 Germany.Leroy Sane right now…#WorldCup #GER #KORGER pic.twitter.com/vn51cuAR1W— Pie Sports Booze 🔞 (@piesportsbooze) June 27, 2018#KORGER Alert | #FIFAWorldCup2018: Defending champions Germany crash out after losing 0-2 to South Korea. Korea Republic v Germany: Group H - FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 Photo by Bradley Kanaris/Getty Images Going out with a whimper. The final whistle goes and so do Germany, as they are condemned to elimination from the Women’s World Cup after drawing 1-1 with South Korea. Where have we seen Germany come up small against South Korea before? (Do yourself a favor and don’t think about that. The 2018 World Cup should not be expunged from everyone’s memory!)Germany fell behind after just six minutes thanks to Cho So-hyun’s goal and equalized through Alexandra Popp just before halftime.Wir sind raus.

DFB/Sofieke van Bilsen pic.twitter.com/OUAhMEStsy— DFB-Frauen (@DFB_Frauen) August 3, 2023The second half came and Germany tried to break through with everything they can, and they did get that as Popp headed in another goal from Bayern Munich’s Lea Schuller’s cross, only for it to be chalked off due to Popp being in an offside position. Many players went down from both teams, as desperation seeped into Germany’s players while coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg can only do so much but was unable to get the coveted second goal that would have otherwise sent Germany through on goal difference. Morocco meanwhile beat Colombia 1-0, but both teams advanced to the Round of 16.This is the first time Germany have failed to qualify for the round of 16 in the team’s history; eight times they qualified before (since the first tournament in 1991 until 2019), the ninth attempt proved elusive.Want some thoughts on Germany’s World Cup struggles up to this point?
