Bayern Munich vs. Villarreal.Report: Two stories out of Poland say Lewy has reached deal with Barca (TVP Sport)By now, you’ve seen the headlines blasted, “Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski agrees to terms with FC Barcelona” and you — rightfully — took everything with a grain of salt. So, let’s break down how this all went down on Monday. First, there was a report out of Poland breaking the story:As TVPSPORT.PL learned, Robert Lewandowski is to sign a contract with Barcelona . According to our source, the captain of the Polish national team informed the Bayern Munich authorities about his decision. In recent weeks, a lot has been said about the future of Robert Lewandowski. The striker’s contract expires on June 30, 2023. Bayern’s authorities are reluctant to start talks on a new contract. The Polish representative is disappointed with this attitude. So far “Lewy” has played 369 matches for the 31-time German champion. He scored ... 340 goals in them . He is one of the best footballers in the history of the German tycoon. As we have established, Lewandowski will not sign a new contract with Bayern. We learned from the close circle of the player that the striker had already communicated with Barcelona. The best striker in the world is to come after a teleconference with the Blaugrana authorities. The information provided to us shows that all the terms of the contract have been agreed. The Pole informed Oliver Kahn about his decision. Bayern authorities already know that “Lewy” will start a relationship with a new employer. It is supposed to be FC Barcelona. Then, another Polish journalist ran with it further:With Lewandowski deciding to join Barcelona, it remains to be seen whether Bayern will agree to let him go. In previous years, Bayern always refused to negotiate - but now with one year left on his contract, Lewandowski's camp says chances of a transfer are bigger [@s_staszewski] https://t.co/bCjV6HTk00— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) April 11, 2022Later, though, a few German reporters got wind of the story and refuted it or at least parts of it:Sport Bild’s Christian FalkNot True ❌ (as of today) @altobelli13 https://t.co/qhKdiqDVDc— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) April 11, 2022Sport1’s Kerry HauEin #Lewandowski-Abschied im Sommer ist möglich, Zahavi spricht mit anderen Vereinen (darunter #Barça). Real Madrid reach Champions League finalPhoto by Burak Akbulut/Anadolu Agency/Getty ImagesAt least one Spanish outlet thinks it could happen.Per a report from Sky Sport’s Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich star striker Robert Lewandowski has agreed to personal terms with FC Barcelona. The specifics on a potential salary for Lewandowski were not listed, except for the striker’s requirements could be handled by FC Barcelona. The Catalans would be willing to give the Polish striker a three-year contract, something that did not appear likely in Bavaria:Update #Lewandowski: There is a verbal agreement with #FCBarcelona. He could sign a 3-years-contract until 2025. Also due to @FabrizioRomano. His financial demands are no problem for the club. Bayern will allow him to leave if they get Kalajdzic + X (Mané). @SkySportDE @Sky_Marc— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) May 24, 2022According to Spanish outlet AS, though, Real Madrid could be a player for Lewandowski, despite the presence of Karim Benzema.Citing his physical attributes and scoring ability, Los Blancos could be pondering a move for the Polish star after failing to convince Kylian Mbappe to make the move to Spain. Instead, Mbappe received a king’s ransom to stay at Paris Saint-Germain:The Pole is crazy about leaving Bayern and although he is flirting with Barcelona his crush, since 2019 is Madrid his dream, as reported by AS. This was confirmed a week ago by Bayern’s own president, Herbert Hainer, when he spoke in Germany about the rumors that place the striker outside Munich. “We already had the case in 2019 when Robert flirted with Real Madrid, Bayern is familiar with this situation,” he admitted. The Bavarian club is determined not to sell and is threatening to keep him even if he leaves on a free in 2023. Lewandowski remains lethal even though his passport says he will be 34 in August. He has scored 40 goals or more in the last six seasons (55, 48 and 50 in the three most recent) and Madrid have reports that his physique is that of a gifted player. Since December, when he began to outfit his exit, Lewandowski asked his agent to prioritize Madrid if an offer came in. With Mbappé, Lewandowski could not fit in, especially with Benzema. But a striker on the loose like that is a desirable piece. How serious Real Madrid actually gets remains to be seen. Most people would consider having Benzema lead the attack to be good enough, but perhaps Carlo Ancelotti has a wrinkle up his sleeve to make two of the world’s best strikers work in unison. Not everyone believes that Los Blancos will make the move, however. What a negotiating strategy by Bayern.Florian Plettenberg has been on fire this transfer window. He’s the guy who broke the Sadio Mane news, so when he speaks you need to listen. Now according to his latest report, Bayern Munich want at least €60m for Robert Lewandowski this summer, and FC Barcelona are looking to improve their bid. A few days ago Plettenberg had reckoned that Lewy would stay in Germany this summer — now he says that the move is much more likely. Here’s the tweet in question:Update #Lewandowski: His move to Barcelona is more likely than a few weeks ago. Now it’s an open poker about the price. It is said that Bayern wants to receive at least €60m. Barcelona improves their offer. Open end. @SkySportDE @Sky_Marc #TransferUpdate— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) June 26, 2022Of course Barcelona have the money to pay for the transfer, because they say so. Joan Laporta seemed very confident about the club’s finances following their members’ decision to sell off part of the club’s merchandising and TV deals in order to raise money. Now, the president of a venerable footballing institution such as Barcelona would surely never lie, would he? That would be unthinkable. So obviously he’s not bluffing and Bayern are well within their rights to demand a large chunk of cash for Lewandowski’s transfer. So now we wait for the next bid from the Catalans. Hopefully they at least offer 50 million euros this time. If not, then maybe Lewandowski should start getting worried about a lack of appreciation. He wouldn’t want to go to a club that doesn’t appreciate him, right?

If Barca raise their bid one more time, that’s all it might take to get a deal done.Of course, the question remains — can Barcelona afford Robert Lewandowski? Of course, the Bavarians could then turn around and demand even MORE money, starting the whole process all over again. With Lewandowski, other well-known players like Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, Leroy Sane etc. are also to start pre-season on Tuesday.Update #Lewandowski: He will start the preseason with FC Bayern tomorrow! The bosses also expect him to be part of the team tomorrow. But he still wants to join Barcelona. But right now the offer is too low. Bayern wants at least €50-55m guaranteed. @SkySportDE @Sky_Marc— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) July 11, 2022Earlier, reports from Spain suggested that Lewandowski could go on a strike and not show up for the pre-season trainings in order to force his way to FC Barcelona. But those seem to be exaggerated now, as he is currently planning none of that. In fact, in his true manner, he decided to be a professional and respect his contract with the club.Lewandowski would still like to leave Bayern though, as the striker has seemingly set his heart to a move to Barcelona. Bayern have softened their stance lately and as per reports they will let Robert go if they receive an offer of 50m upfront in transfer fees. Barcelona, on the other hand, are struggling to meet Bayern’s valuation as they’ve seen multiple bids get rejected. Barca would like a long-term payment structure with multiple installments and add-ons, but Bayern are having none of that. So, with the negotiations seemingly at an impasse, Lewandowski has no other options but to wait and train with Bayern team until something decisive happens. There is still a possibility though, that the clubs will not reach an agreement this summer and Lewandowski will indeed have to stay with Bayern for at least one more year. The striker is probably also aware of that and has decided that turning up at Säbener Straße is the best for all parties. His relationship with the club’s bosses has hit the bottom but he surely doesn’t want to lose his teammates. Or maybe, he is having second thoughts about leaving after seeing the squad that is being put together at Bayern. Will Lewandowski stay or will Lewandowski go? That is uncertain for now. But what is certain, is that tomorrow is going to be a very awkward day for Lewy as he’ll meet his teammates for the first time after the brawl. Smile at everyone and go about your business; nothing happened, right?

FC Barcelona Unveil New Signing Andreas ChristensenPhoto by Urbanandsport/NurPhoto via Getty ImagesNot enough levers! Someone call Bayer Leverkusen. We’re halfway through the week and Robert Lewandowski was supposed to be an FC Barcelona player by now. However, it seems that the Catalans are having trouble scrounging together a bid for the Bayern Munich superstar. Per reports out of Germany and Spain, a number of factors are making the operation difficult.Firstly, according to Kerry Hau of Sport1, Bayern Munich are demanding a large portion of Lewy’s transfer fee up-front, without any installments. If Barca were to make a €50m guaranteed bid today, the club would immediately sit down and negotiate an exit for the Polish striker. However, until that demand is met, Robert Lewandowski will remain at Bayern.Barca are apparently having trouble producing this lump sum, which is why the Bayern executives would much rather sell Lewy to PSG or Chelsea if a bid came in. Unfortunately the striker only wants to go to Spain, which is making a deal difficult.Meanwhile, on the other side of negotiations, we have Barca’s impending financial issues. They have yet to announce the activation of their second “lever” (a word that has curiously entered the football journalist’s lexicon over the course of this window) and presumably don’t have much money left after signing Raphinha from Leeds United. The trouble is that the sale of Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United, which could have raised up to 85m euros for the club, is stalled. The reason? The Dutchman doesn’t want to leave Barcelona.❗️If Frenkie De Jong does not leave, the Fair Play issue can make it complicated for the club to do other certain operations they have in mind. @gerardromero @planetabarcaa #Transfers— Reshad Rahman ✆ (@ReshadRahman_) July 14, 2022How Manchester United spent an entire summer negotiating over a player that doesn’t even want to join them is a mystery. EPL clubs sometimes seem to work backwards. But more importantly for Barca (and therefore Bayern) the Frenkie deal stalling throws a wrench into their plans to raise money. Now it’s unknown whether Joan Laporta has any other tricks up his sleeve, but unless de Jong is sold and Barca activates their second lever (a sale of future club revenue), they will not be able to match Bayern’s strict demands for a Lewandowski sale.As it stands, it’s looking like Robert Lewandowski will have to stick around at Bayern Munich for a little while longer. At least he doesn’t seem to be grumpy in training anymore.Update #Lewandowski: Intensive training session today. Now finish. 31 degrees. Lewy in top form and totally involved. Talks with Gnabry, Kimmich, Vidovic. Salihamidzic watched parts of the training from the balcony. @FCBayernEN: RT @kerry_hau: #Lewandowski attended today's DFL photoshoot with his teammates at the Allianz Arena. Bayern bosses expect him to be there again tomorrow for the team presentation – if an agreement with Barça is not reached by then. Clubs are in direct contact now. It's getting serious! @SPORT1i

While Bayern is still linked with Rennes’ Mathys Tel, he’s only 17 years of age and not quite ready to replace a seasoned veteran on his own.As far as incoming transfers, Bayern’s efforts are still centered on Juventus and Netherlands center back Matthijs de Ligt. Sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić was recently in Turin to negotiate a deal between the two clubs. Brazzo told journalists that felt the talks had gone well, and it certainly seems like the De Ligt topic will consume much of Bayern’s remaining attention — and resources — for this transfer window.Mané, meanwhile, is the man of the hour after arriving in a blockbuster deal from Liverpool, and Serge Gnabry is on the verge of extending his stay in Munich. They’ll be here to usher in as well as define the next era.BFW AnalysisA Liverpool, Mané had often been used as a center-forward to great effect by Jürgen Klopp, but they have mastered the art of the 4-3-3 formation and have been able to reach great success without a natural no. 9. It’s a system that works very well with the group they’ve got, but the dynamic has always been a bit different at Bayern, which has for so long been used to having a natural striker in the squad. Different managers at Bayern have experimented with different systems, all of which are striker-centric.Gnabry, for both Germany and Bayern, has played as Bayern’s most advanced central attacker on numerous occasions before, but much like Mané, he’s arguably better on one of the wings and shouldn’t be relied upon as the sole striker. The idea…

Atletico Madrid v FC Barcelona - LaLiga EA Sports Photo by Diego Souto/Getty Images Staying put, and that’s that... Robert Lewandowski has had a bit of a turbulent period in the last year and a half. Forcing his way out of Bayern Munich, he landed at FC Barcelona with a point to prove. He has not exactly proven what it is as he was rather hit and miss for the most part of his time in Spain. The 35-year-old is the subject of multiple efforts by his Catalan employers doing anything to ship him out yet he still wants to continue with them: Robert #Lewandowski, understand that he definitely wants to stay at @FCBarcelona in summer! He has no plans for a transfer at this stage …

➡️ But: There's still a lot of interest from Saudi Arabia and interesting clubs from Europe. Atlético is monitoring his situation.

13… pic.twitter.com/QlHmTpAj3V— Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) March 27, 2024Despite this, he has attracted suitors from the wealthy Saudi Pro League and some big-name European clubs (Atletico Madrid), so he’s still hot property even though he’s cooled off in recent times. If the Pole were to make the move to Atleti, he must follow Luis Suarez’s footsteps and take a pay cut to get out of the financial mess that is Barcelona. The former Borussia Dortmund striker must decide whether he’s happy with his current situation or not, because a move to another club might be beneficial to him.
