Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images On the hot seat… With his team in a complete slide, Nuri Sahin is on the hot seat at Borussia Dortmund per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: ⚫️ Nuri #Sahin faces a decisive UCL match on Tuesday in Bologna to secure his position as head coach of Borussia Dortmund. #BVB Should Sahin be forced to leave, Erik ten Hag is considered a serious candidate, as previously revealed. This is partly because he would be immediately available, having recently been spotted in Dortmund.Sebastian Hoeneß is a strong option for the summer, as he could leave VfB Stuttgart due to an exit clause worth €7-8m.Borussia Dortmund resides in 10th place of the Bundesliga table (bad) and ninth place of the Champions League standings (not bad). BVB has already been eliminated from the DFB-Pokal as well. One other name to keep an eye on is Sandro Wagner, who has made a strong impression while assisting Julian Nagelsmann with the German national team. West Ham United FC v Manchester United FC - Premier League Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images BVB could be ready to make a move...soon. According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, former Bayern Munich campus coach Erik ten Hag is a candidate to replace Nuri Sahin should Borussia Dortmund let him go: ⚫️ Despite other reports, Erik ten Hag remains a candidate for Borussia Dortmund should Nuri #Sahin be dismissed. #BVB He is and will remain on the list. However, he would not be a 6-month solution, but would demand a long-term contract. Additionally, his severance pay with #MUFC would need to be settled. In addition to Ten Hag, Dortmund have discussed other candidates.Ten Hag will assuredly be looking for a place to reboot his coaching career. Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Nuri Sahin was relieved of his duties... Nuri Şahin is no longer the Borussia Dortmund coach, but even as he led BVB on in a pivotal Champions League clash against Serie A club Bologna on Tuesday, it seemed that the succession candidates were lining up behind him.And after a 2-1 defeat in Italy, the club made a change.Prior to the official sacking, Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg issued this report: ⚫️ If Borussia Dortmund decide on an interim solution until the end of the season in the event of parting ways with Nuri #Sahin, Sebastian #Hoeneß is one of the top candidates for #BVB in summer.Hoeneß, who is once again very successful with Stuttgart, could leave VfB in the summer due to a release clause worth €7-8m, which Dortmund could activate after the season.Leipzig and Leverkusen are also keen on him, but that’s nothing new. However, Hoeneß’s first point of contact remains Stuttgart. His contract runs until 2027, and his future is expected to be decided in March or April.@SkySportDE BFW AnalysisDortmund is in a state of mess, but it has not just been a few years. The problems at this point seem to be rooted deep in the culture at the club, at least at the executive level. The Black and Yellows are hardly bereft of talent, but have turned the keys over to a succession of club favorites as coaches — from Edin Terzić’s two stints to Nuri Şahin — who have had moments bright enough to extend their stays but have largely only overseen the BVB ship running aground. Now that names such as former Manchester United and Ajax coach Erik ten Hag and the promising Hoeneß are floating around, could it be a sign that Dortmund is going to chart a different course? Much may have depended on the match in Bologna...and after a 2-1 defeat that was much more dismal than the scoreline indicates, the Dortmund brass need to have a good long think about the state of the team.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s Champions League visit to Amsterdam to play Feyenoord?
