The quality of Bayern Munich goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has come under question in recent months after growing concerns over his ability to maintain top class performances at the age of 39. Subsequently, The Bavarians may be investing more time into finding a long-term successor for the sweeper-keeper. According to Sky reporter, Florian Plettenberg, Bayern’s bitter rivals, Borussia Dortmund, may just have a solution who is looking to make the next step in his career (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Gregor #Kobel is disappointed and frustrated with the development at Borussia Dortmund. Kobel is eager to play for a team that can regularly compete for titles. A transfer is no longer out of the question, despite his contract running until 2028, especially since progress at #BVB has stagnated and top clubs from England are showing interest in him.Manuel Neuer’s goalkeeping ability is still widely up for debate, but it would be difficult to deny that Bayern will inevitably need a long-term solution to one of the club’s greatest keepers of all time.At 26 years of age and over five years of Bundesliga experience, Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel presents an interesting solution for Die Roten. Manuel Neuer was also 26 years old when he joined Bayern Munich, so Kobel certainly ticks the box for long-term solution. However, with a contract running through to 2028 and a host of Premier League clubs circling, it may prove difficult to secure the Swiss goalkeeper’s signature. Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be the first time Bayern dipped into North Rhine-Westphalia to snatch a player from their rivals. Perhaps Kobel could be next in line to join the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Mats Hummels and Mario Götze in trading yellow for red. What do you think? Is Kobel a good long-term solution for Manuel Neuer? If not, who would be better suited to replace Neuer?Let us know in the comments below.

RB Salzburg v FC Bayern München - Friendly Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Imagine Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sané leaving for Borussia Dortmund... Sané discussed at BVB? (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia)Borussia Dortmund has kicked around a pursuit of Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané, but the Black and Yellows faced a couple of obstacles. First, Sané’s salary would be too great for Dortmund to handle (whether it is just too much for the budget threshold or BVB feels Sané’s production does not meet the hefty salary is up for debate), but second — and this is interesting — if the Germany international opts to leave Bayern Munich, he wants to play somewhere not in Germany: Leroy Sané’s name was briefly discussed at Borussia Dortmund. However, two reasons made any potential move unattainable. Firstly, BVB cannot afford Sané’s salary of around €20m/year. Secondly, the player himself has decided not to stay in the Bundesliga should he leave Bayern. It is really tough to discern whether or not Bayern Munich is really done with Sané or if they are just shaking him down to a bottomline number that he will accept. Despite recent reports, it feels like Bayern Munich really just wants to get Sané down to something that matches his production level and consistency. BVB in mix for Rashford? (@Plettigoal)If BVB cannot get Leroy Sané, maybe it already has its next potential target. Borussia Dortmund could be battling Paris Saint-Germain for Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford (who has also been loosely linked to Bayern Munich): ⚫️ Borussia Dortmund exploring deal to sign Marcus #Rashford. Arsenal v Manchester United - Emirates FA Cup Third Round Photo by James Gill - Danehouse/Getty Images GAME DAY! Bayern Munich vs. Hoffenheim... Pletti says Mai-noooooo on rumors linking Bayern to United midfielder (@Plettigoal)Believe it or not, there are rumors linking Bayern Munich to Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo floating around during this latest edition of the winter silly season. If you dare, let’s take a gander at what is floating around cyberspace regarding this rumor: BAYERN MUNICH are set to join the race for Kobbie Mainoo, SunSport can reveal. The Manchester United midfielder could be on his way out of Old Trafford if the club are unable to afford his wage demands.Mainoo - whose current £20,000-a-week contract expires in 2027 - is hoping for a fresh deal worth £200,000-a-week. But United are believed to be reluctant to go that high - which has led to reports Mainoo could leave the club either during this window or over the summer.Chelsea are at the front of the queue for the midfielder, but SunSport has learned that the London club will not be the only side chasing him. German giants Bayern are also long-term admirers and are planning to make a move if he becomes available. Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images Nuri Sahin was relieved of his duties... Nuri Şahin is no longer the Borussia Dortmund coach, but even as he led BVB on in a pivotal Champions League clash against Serie A club Bologna on Tuesday, it seemed that the succession candidates were lining up behind him.And after a 2-1 defeat in Italy, the club made a change.Prior to the official sacking, Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg issued this report: ⚫️ If Borussia Dortmund decide on an interim solution until the end of the season in the event of parting ways with Nuri #Sahin, Sebastian #Hoeneß is one of the top candidates for #BVB in summer.Hoeneß, who is once again very successful with Stuttgart, could leave VfB in the summer due to a release clause worth €7-8m, which Dortmund could activate after the season.Leipzig and Leverkusen are also keen on him, but that’s nothing new. However, Hoeneß’s first point of contact remains Stuttgart. His contract runs until 2027, and his future is expected to be decided in March or April.@SkySportDE BFW AnalysisDortmund is in a state of mess, but it has not just been a few years. The problems at this point seem to be rooted deep in the culture at the club, at least at the executive level. The Black and Yellows are hardly bereft of talent, but have turned the keys over to a succession of club favorites as coaches — from Edin Terzić’s two stints to Nuri Şahin — who have had moments bright enough to extend their stays but have largely only overseen the BVB ship running aground. Now that names such as former Manchester United and Ajax coach Erik ten Hag and the promising Hoeneß are floating around, could it be a sign that Dortmund is going to chart a different course? Much may have depended on the match in Bologna...and after a 2-1 defeat that was much more dismal than the scoreline indicates, the Dortmund brass need to have a good long think about the state of the team.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s Champions League visit to Amsterdam to play Feyenoord? VfL Wolfsburg v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Cathrin Mueller/Getty Images Who will take over at Borussia Dortmund? If you have not been keeping up with the ins-and-out of the Bundesliga coaching carousel, then hop aboard and let’s catch up on things at Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. (Thankfully, Bayern Munich is not involved in these proceedings)Mike Tullberg is manning the interim gig at Borussia Dortmund, but things are hazy regarding who might get the job permanently. As for Bayer Leverkusen, Xabi Alonso could be in his final months with the club.Let’s take a look at some of the most recent reports from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg.Kovač to BVB? (@Plettigoal)Former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovač is under consideration by Borussia Dortmund, but Erik ten Hag is not (at least not right now) per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: ⚫️ There were new considerations and discussions today, but Erik ten Hag will NOT become the head coach of Borussia Dortmund at this time. The transfer package is currently too expensive for Dortmund, and he remains on Manchester United’s payroll. #MUFCInstead, #BVB are in talks with Niko #Kovac.Alonso expected to leave Leverkusen in Summer ‘25 or ‘26 (@Plettigoal)Plettenberg reported that Xabi Alonso is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen either this summer or next: ⚪️ At Bayer 04 Leverkusen, there is a common expectation that Xabi #Alonso will become the coach of Real Madrid either this summer or next year. This is partly because all other major managerial positions – Liverpool, Bayern, Manchester City – are currently filled, and Real Madrid see him as the logical successor to Carlo Ancelotti. However, at the moment, Leverkusen have no information indicating that Alonso will step down as their coach this summer.Kovač, Fischer under consideration for BVB (@Plettigoal)Borussia Dortmund Niko Kovač and Urs Fischer are two of the prime candidates to take over the vacant post: ⚫️ Niko #Kovac is open to becoming Borussia Dortmund’s coach, as reported. Initial contact with his management took place on Thursday. However, Kovac would prefer to sign a contract until the end of the season, with an option for one or two additional seasons.Currently, it seems unlikely that #BVB will grant him this option, which is why the club are also considering other candidates, such as Urs #Fischer.More on Kovač, Fischer (@Plettigoal)Plettenberg checked in to add more info on Borussia Dortmund: ⚫️ Urs #Fischer is another candidate Borussia Dortmund have considered in the past few hours. #BVBThe former Union Berlin coach is reportedly willing to take over only until the end of the season, according to @berger_pj.However, the Niko #Kovac deal is still on.Secret meeting in Austria for BVB, Kovač (@Plettigoal)Who doesn’t love a good secret meeting to add intrigue to a situation? Check this out: ⚫️ #BVB bosses held talks with Niko #Kovac during a secret meeting in Austria, as per @RNBVB and confirmed.Dortmund want Kovac to take over until the summer. However, Kovac insists on a contract running at least until 2026 or 2027.BVB, on the other hand, are looking for a temporary solution so they can unveil a more prominent choice in the summer, such as Sebastian Hoeneß or Roger Schmidt. If negotiations with Kovac fail, it remains possible that Mike Tullberg will coach on an interim basis until the end of the season. Is Bayern Munich setting the bar too low for itself with some of the decisions that it is making? Where does Bayern need to to improve the roster now...and in the future? Should the club just stay quiet about Joshua Kimmich’s contract situation? We think so! Sky Sport journalist Patrick Berger had a blockbuster of a story, which detailed Borussia Dortmund’s secret meeting in Austria with Ralf Rangnick. Bayer 04 Leverkusen v SV Werder Bremen - Bundesliga Photo by Pau Barrena/Getty Images Bayern Munich is back at it... Wirtz staying put? (kicker)Well, this would change some plans for Bayern Munich this summer. Per kicker, Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz could be getting close to signing a contract extension with Die Werkself: Contract talks between Florian Wirtz and Bayer 04 began at least half a year ago. However, the game has long since stopped. The framework for an extension is in place. However, the star’s approval is still missing.Along with the still-unanswered question about the future of coach Xabi Alonso, this is the hottest topic currently occupying club officials and fans of Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Will the German double winner be able to continue to enjoy the footballing skills of exceptional player Florian Wirtz next season ? Or will the Werkself have to sell Germany’s best footballer this summer because his contract expires in June 2027?After all, with a transfer value of well over 100 million euros, it is considered far too risky to keep the playmaker with the current contract term until the summer of 2026. Bayer would then no longer have a strong position in the transfer poker and would no longer have all the reins firmly in hand. The player’s side doesn’t see the (personal) development of the still only 21-year-old as complete. At Leverkusen, he could further mature in a leadership position and further develop his leadership qualities. This wouldn’t necessarily be the case with a move to one of Europe’s top clubs. In addition, the prospect of preparing for his first World Cup participation in 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico in a familiar and at the same time top-class sporting environment and thus completely suitable without any disruptive factors is a pro argument for staying at Bayer.Interestingly, kicker also notes that Wirtz’s decision is independent of what happens with coach Xabi Alonso, who has been rumored to a move this summer as well. As for Wirtz, this could not only change Bayern Munich’s plans for the summer, but for the future as well. Whatever Bayern Munich spends this summer on other players could affect its ability to make a play for Wirtz in 2026 — when the club could also be looking to sign a high-priced striker. United monitoring Nmecha, but not all-in on midfielder (@Plettigoal)Manchester United is keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, but his price tag and roster crowding concerns could prevent a move from happening: Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Felix #Nmecha, as per BILD and confirmed. @berger_pj However, there are currently no concrete talks or negotiations with either the player or Borussia Dortmund. One reason is that #MUFC still have an excess of players in his position. Dortmund are demanding at least €50 million in the summer. His contract runs until 2028.This is what Sky Sport’s Patrick Berger initially said: Manchester United are interested in Felix Nmecha (24/ ) and have him on their shortlist, as Bild reported - confirmed! Jason Wilcox, the technical director of #MUFC, knows him well from his time as Manchester City’s academy chief. However, there has been no contact yet. Borussia Dortmund do not want to sell Nmecha, but if they fail to qualify for a European competition, they may be forced to. Price valuation: €50m+. #BVB ⚫️ ManUnited have a packed midfield with Mainoo, Casemiro, Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes ... But if a player leaves, Nmecha could become a serious option for @ManUtd.. Casemiro is among those who could be on the move. Spain v Germany: Quarter-Final - UEFA EURO 2024 Photo by Dean Mouhtaropoulos/Getty Images Bayern Munich must regroup for Der Klassiker... Müller’s salary to be allocated to Wirtz pursuit? (@Plettigoal via @iMiaSanMia_GER)With Thomas Müller being unceremoniously dumped by Bayern Munich last week, rumors are swirling that the Bavarians could be seeking to apply the €17 million they will save on Müller’s salary toward a pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz: Bayern is now saving a lot of money on Thomas Müller’s salary. But it’s also a clear sign and a clear intention to continue to go all out for Florian Wirtz. It remains to be seen what happens with Wirtz, but Uli Hoeneß’s sudden change of heart on Müller — plus Hoeneß’s close relationship with the Wirtz family — does seem at least a little bit curious. Regardless, Bayern Munich would do well to get Wirtz if he decides to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Manchester City has also recently been linked to Wirtz as well. Kovač wants conservative approach with Schlotterbeck (@BlackYellow)Thank you! Borussia Dortmund v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Ralf Ibing - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Will this last or will Niko Kovač wear down the BVB roster? Aside of the occasional karaoke rendition of “99 Luftballons” by Nena, former Bayern Munich Niko Kovač is not really known for being much fun. The impetus for the infamous #MiamiNights WhatsApp group, Kovač is focused on football first and foremost. A no-nonsense philosophy, which includes lukewarm water on the training ground, discipline, and a playing style branded intensity mark Kovač as the exact kind of coach needed to whip a team into shape...and that is exactly what happened since he took over at Borussia Dortmund. A roster loaded with talent was underachieving, but now is starting to maximize its potential. Sky Sport journalist Patrick Berger posted on X about the impact of the former Bayern Munich coach: ⚫️ Niko Kovač has brought the #BVB back on track - and the players are equally enthusiastic:“Niko kicked us in the ass,” Karim Adeyemi says emphatically. “He told us we had to run, no matter who we were playing against. It was very difficult at the beginning. But I have to honestly say: It helped me. I feel somehow fitter, and the cramps haven’t come back.”And goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, who made a world-class save against Leverkusen, added: “He was tough from the start. He doesn’t let much go. It’s a different culture—we need that, too.” Kovač has guided Borussia Dortmund to four consecutive wins in the league and five overall across all competitions. Once an extreme longshot to make the Champions League, BVB is just one point behind SC Freiburg. Dortmund will square off with Holstein Kiel, while Freiburg faces Eintracht Frankfurt. Real Madrid CF v Borussia Dortmund: Quarter Final - FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images Is BVB going to retain a key player? According to a report from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund is attempting to keep Chelsea FC midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka after hosting the 21-year-old on loan during the second half of last season: ⚫️ As reported in our show on Friday, there is still no agreement between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea regarding Carney #Chukwuemeka.Chelsea’s clear intention is a sale, not a loan. It remains unclear whether this would be interesting or feasible for #BVB.Chukwuemeka is held in high regard at Chelsea, but their roster is overloaded. Borussia Dortmund has a decent chance of getting its man if the price is right. With a move for Hugo Ekitiké getting close, the reality is that Bayern Munich is likely going to get Luis Diaz…whether fans like it or not. Bayern Munich has reportedly also exited talks with VfB Stuttgart to focus on a deal for Diaz. RB Leipzig v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Luciano Lima/Getty Images Bayern Munich is working to bolster its squad... Bayern set to miss on Simons (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)Despite recent links to RB Leipzig Xavi Simons, Bayern Munich is expected to miss on the versatile attacker: Bayern Munich could reportedly miss out on Xavi Simons with Chelsea looking to sign him from RB Leipzig. The Blues have already bolstered their attacking ranks by signing Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, and Jamie Gittens but Enzo Maresca is still looking to bring in more players.Chelsea are looking to offload the likes of Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Christopher Nkunku, among others, which will free up space and wages for any potential new signing.Bayern are focusing on signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool, and they will only look for options elsewhere if they fail to secure his services. The German champions made an approach to sign Simons this summer, but as it stands, he remains as a standby option.Max Eberl has a strong connection with Simons, and he would be the first option for Bayern if they fail to land their top targets. However, at this moment, it appears that he will move to the Premier League, with Chelsea making concrete efforts to bring him to Stamford Bridge. What makes this Simons story so interesting is Eberl’s reported “personal” interest in the attacker — which might not jibe with the rest of the decision-makers in the club. Rashford inks Barca deal (Fabrizio Romano)Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford was linked to Bayern Munich, but has signed a deal with FC Barcelona per Fabrizio Romano: Marcus Rashford has signed his contract as new Barcelona player. ✍ Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 7, Episode 62 (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich is working on hard a few deals, but could also be working through issues internally. Let’s talk about where things stand for each of them on their respective roads to recovery. Reyna to Parma? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)Borussia Dortmund’s Gio Reyna looks like he is headed to Parma: Personal terms between Parma and Gio #Reyna are agreed after very good talks in the last days. Parma still have a good chance. The clubs have started negotiations. No agreement yet. #BVB United could make play for Šeško (GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs)Benjamin Šeško could be the next big name on Manchester United’s wish list: Benjamin Šeško is back on Manchester United’s radar as a No.9 option, as revealed last week. Approach made 12 months ago before Šeško decided to stay at Leipzig.Nicolas Jackson and Ollie Watkins two other names discussed.#MUFC still shortlisting several targets. Finding a new striker the next priority. ESPN also had information on Manchester United’s interest in Šeško:Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, TEAMtalk has revealed. The 22-year-old is high on Ruben Amorim’s striker wishlist, despite having previously rejected a move to Old Trafford. Arsenal’s failure to secure a deal for Sesko could open the door for United, who have maintained regular contact since 2022. The Slovenia international has scored 39 goals in 87 appearances for RB Leipzig, where he is under contract until June 2029.Bavarian Podcast Works — Flagship Show: Season 7, Episode 61 (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window could be heating up very soon. Real Betis Balompie v Chelsea FC - UEFA Conference League Final 2025 Photo by Richard Heathcote/Getty Images BVB just can’t quit him. Manchester United attacker Jadon Sancho never reached the same heights as he did with Borussia Dortmund during his first stint in Germany and BVB has not been as dangerous without its Prodigal Son. Sure, he had a less successful stint back in the second half of the 2023/24 season, but as Metallica once sang, “The memory remains...”A move to reunite the two sides almost makes too much sense — and could happen per Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger: ⚫️ #BVB is once again dealing with Jadon Sancho (25/ ). The topic is still being discussed internally and is not entirely closed. Manchester United is said to be demanding around €18-20m.Sancho has not been great since leaving Borussia Dortmund, so the fee could really be a little high. That said, it would not be shocking to see BVB give it another try with Sancho as part of its attack. Sancho had five goals and 10 assists in 42 games across all competitions last season for Manchester United and Chelsea FC. Bayern Munich is getting Liverpool’s Luis Diaz...now what? Let’s talk through why we should take a step back, relax, and try to make the best of the move. Also, we’ve got some ideas about what might be next for Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade, why kicking the tires on Benjamin Šeško could be a good idea, the prospect of Gianluigi Donnarumma at Bayern, Jamal Musiala’ comeback plan, and MORE! Germany Press Conference and Training Session - UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2025 Final Photo by Boris Streubel - UEFA/UEFA via Getty Images Nick Woltemade is the next big target for Bayern Munich... Woltemade pursuit has Bayern puzzled for now (FCB Inside via @iMiaSanMia)Bayern Munich still wants Nick Woltemade...and VfB Stuttgart still does not want to give him up. For Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, the situation has been an odd one. “We have a situation that has been talked about often enough. We made an offer. That hasn’t led to any discussions to date – and that’s the status quo. I’ve said elsewhere that I don’t like to talk about players of other clubs, and Nick Woltemade is currently a player of VfB Stuttgart. We’ll see how things develop,” Dreesen told FCB Inside (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Our industry is so crazy that everything is normal and sometimes abnormal.”When asked if the club would up its offer, Dreesen passed the buck (figuratively, not literally): “I must explicitly say that this is certainly also the task of my esteemed colleague Max Eberl, together with Christoph Freund.”Bayern Munich will likely take another run at this, though it will not be easy. BVB scoping Trossard (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)Earlier this summer, Bayern Munich was linked to Arsenal FC attacker Leandro Trossard. Those rumors lacked substance, but that might not stop Borussia Dortmund from taking a run at the Belgian: Borussia Dortmund are monitoring Leandro #Trossard.

Sport-Club Freiburg v Eintracht Frankfurt - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian El-Saqqa - firo sportphoto/Getty Images The weekend is finally upon us... Bayern kicked around bringing in Krösche (Sport Bild via @iMiaSanMia)According to a report from Sport Bild, Bayern Munich toyed around with the idea of bringing in Markus Krösche as a potential addition to the front office: Markus Krösche’s name was discussed at Bayern’s supervisory board, but there are doubts about whether he would work within Bayern’s current leadership concept. Krösche is known to want to operate with freedom and would not allow interference from the club’s bosses in his work, neither transfers nor leadership style. As of now, there has been no contact between Bayern bosses and Krösche. There are ‘strong voices’ at Bayern that, if Max Eberl were to be dismissed, a complete ‘cut’ and fresh blood are needed. For them continuing with Jan-Christian Dreesen and Christoph Freund instead of Eberl should be out of the question. Borussia Dortmund, Milan and Premier League clubs are also monitoring Krösche’s situation. He’s under contract until 2028, but Frankfurt do not expect him to stay for that long. @SPORTBILDThis is a little bizarre to say the least. It is not as if you need a back-up board member for sport or sporting director. Krösche could be a name to keep an eye on in the future, though. LFC making progress with NUFC on Isak (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg) Talks between Newcastle and Liverpool over Alexander #Isak are progressing well. The player’s camp are very positive about the situation. Isak is hopeful that an agreement between the clubs can be reached. A record bid will be needed. #LFC A verbal agreement in principle over a contract running until 2031 has been reached with Liverpool, as reported yesterday.Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show Season 5, Episode 1 (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich had a busy week, so let’s unwind and break it down. A review of Happy Gilmore 2 — and maybe two reasons to get excited for what HBO/Max has coming up. Boey could stay (Kicker’s Frank Linkesch)Bayern Munich right-back Sacha Boey might not get sold this season after all.Despite rumors to the contrary, Boey has a backer in head coach Vincent Kompany and no desire to leave the club permanently, according to Linkesch: Bayern bosses are willing to listen to offers for Sacha Boey but there are currently indications that he will stay. The Frenchman has so far not shown willingness to leave the club. In addition, coach Vincent Kompany appreciates him.BVB won’t sign defensive midfielder (Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger)Borussia Dortmund coach Niko Kovač said that his club will not be signing a defensive midfielder this summer: ❌ #BVB will not be signing a holding midfielder this summer!
