Well, here you go!<a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com">Bayern Munich</a>’s roster is still packed with talent at just about every position on the first-team — and that does not even count the youngsters currently playing for <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/bayern-munich">Bayern Munich</a> II in 3.Liga or the prospects on Bayern Munich’s youth teams. There are, however, several key players out on loan. Here is a recap of how each player is doing:Michaël Cuisance — Olympique Marseille — Ligue One (<a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/fifa/teams/france">France</a>)The highest profile of Bayern Munich’s loanees, Cuisance is playing a lot and gaining experience in both Ligue 1 and the <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league">Champions League</a>. In 15 contests across all competitions for Olympique Marseille this season, Cuisance has only registered one assist, and while he is completing 84% of his passes, it seems that he’s hit a bit of a wall with his performances.Given his opportunities, the #StepOverKing should be producing at a much higher rate. Simply put, he has to be better, and it is probably time to start getting at least a little concerned.Adrian Fein — PSV Eindhoven — Eredivisie (<a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/fifa/teams/netherlands">Netherlands</a>)Ah, now we have a loanee, which is actually trending upwards! After a slow start, Fein is finally getting a chance to prove himself. For the Dutch side, Fein has appeared in 12 games and played 381 minutes total. Fein has one goal and assist but is completing 88% of his passes. This is a marked improvement from earlier in the season for Fein, who has now appeared in five of the last six games for PSV Eindhoven.Funny enough for Fein, he scored his goal as an attacking midfielder, and not from his normal position in the defensive midfield.Lars Lukas Mai — SV Darmstadt 98 — 2. Bundesliga (<a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/fifa/teams/germany">Germany</a>)Mai is still racking up valuable minutes with Darmstadt and is putting together some nice footage for Bayern Munich — or any other interested team — to view.Mai has only sat for seven total minutes all season for Darmstadt (not including a one game ban for yellow card accrual). In 14 games across all competitions, Mai has two assists, a 90% passing accuracy rate with 3.0 interceptions per game and 3.5 tackles per game. Mai is also winning 80% of his ground duels and 57% of his aerial duels.Clearly, this loan has been a win for all parties.Sarpreet Singh — 1. FC Nürnberg — 2. Bundesliga (Germany)Singh is starting to get a little more run with <em>Der Club</em>. The New Zealand native has eight overall appearances for FC Nürnberg, where he has played 264 minutes but with no goals or assists.Singh has played 87 minutes in the last two games, which shows he may be starting to prove himself in training, but with a lack of production, he clearly has a long way to go. Singh is only completing 78% of his passes as well.Christian Fruchtl — 1. FC Nürnberg — 2. Bundesliga (Germany)Nothing has changed.Fruchtl still has zero appearances. This loan assignment just has not worked out. Hopefully this is a case that Fruchtl does not have the necessary experience that <em>Der Club</em> needs right now rather than gaping holes within his game.Oliver Batista Meier — SC Heerenveen — Eredivisie (Netherlands)Batista Meier has one goal and two assists in 11 games across all competitions for SC Heerenveen, but has played 142 minutes in his last three games after missing a long spell due to COVID-19.Batista Meier, who has the flexibility to playing as an attacking midfielder, second striker, or winger has been picking up most…
Manchester City v Olympique de Marseille: Group C - UEFA Champions LeaguePhoto by Jonathan Bartolozzi/Olympique de Marseille via Getty ImagesMichaël Cuisance might not return to Bayern Munich if the Bavarians have their way.In what seems to be a situation where Bayern Munich would prefer to not bring back one of its loanees, the Bavarians are reportedly hoping Olympique Marseille will exercise the purchase option on the skilled 21-year-old per Sport Bild’s print edition.Highly-talented and mercurial, Cuisance bolted to France for a loan stint in hopes of being able to showcase his impressive skills. While Olympique Marseille manager Andre Villas Boas reportedly is happy with Cuisance, the player has not exactly lit up the scoresheet in Ligue One.Cuisance has no goals and one assist in 18 games across all competitions this season for Marseille and would seemingly be facing an uphill battle to break into the Bayern Munich starting lineup any time soon if he returned to Germany:With Michaël Cuisance (21), who was loaned to Olympique Marseille, there is hope that the French pull the purchase option, which would bring Munich 18 million euros. Coach André Villas-Boas has made a strong case for a commitment.Bayern Munich’s acquisition of Cuisance from Borussia Monchengladbach did not make much sense at the moment back in 2019 given the midfield depth in Bavaria at the time, but the move looks even more questionable now.The #StepOverKing had a bit of a cult following for a bit with Bayern Munich because he took every opportunity he could to showcase his skills when given a chance with the Bavarians. It just appears, however, that the move did not ultimately help the player or the club and the youngster might have been better off staying with M’Gladbach.

The goals for each loan are starkly different, however. Sport1 broke down what the Bavarians are looking for from each loan assignment:Michaël Cuisance (Olympique Marseille): Bayern Munich is hoping like crazy that Olympique Marseille will activate the purchase option on the #StepOverKing, but that seems a bit unlikely after André Villas-Boas resigned from his managerial post. At €18 million, a sale of Cuisance — who reportedly does not have a future in Bavaria — seems like the best possible outcome for Bayern Munich, but now also appears to be a longshot.Joshua Zirkzee (Parma): Similar to Cuisance, it appears Bayern Munich would love Zirkzee to perform well enough that Parma will pony up the reported €15 million it would take to activate the purchase option. In this financial climate, that does not seem like sure thing.Lars Lukas Mai (Darmstadt): Mai is absolutely killing it in 2. Bundesliga, but his future is in doubt with Bayern Munich based on the pure volume of defenders and the rumored transfer targets that the Bavarians would like to bring in. At this point, it can be assumed that Bayern Munich will be looking to sell Mai as well, with Lazio being interested. There is no purchase option on Mai’s loan deal, so Mai will likely at least return temporarily to Bavaria or could even take residence with Bayern Munich II again if a viable suitor can’t be found.Leon Dajaku (Union Berlin): There is a €2.5 million purchase option in Dajaku’s loan deal, but Bayern Munich also reportedly has a €4 to €5 million buy-back clause. The feeling here is that if Union Berlin wants Dajaku, Bayern Munich might try to negotiate a bit, but won’t full stand in the way of a move.As we wrote <a href="https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2021/2/3/22263908/bayern-munich-chris-richards-jamal-musiala-hansi-flick-david-alaba-jerome-boateng-niklas-sule">yesterday</a>, Sport1 noted that Chris Richards (Hoffenheim) is expected to be a part of Bayern Munich’s future and will head back to Bavaria after six months.“When it comes to loan players, it’s important that they play. With Zirkzee and Richards, two have changed, both of which I would have liked to keep,” said Flick (as captured by <a href="https://www.tz.de/sport/fc-bayern/fc-bayern-muenchen-pk-hansi-flick-ticker-hertha-bsc-pressekonferenz-goretzka-martinez-90189089.html">Tz</a>). “But it’s good for both of them to develop because they have more chances to play there. But even there they have to perform well. But in terms of potential, a lot of the players we have loaned are in a position to gain a foothold at Bayern Munich.”Summary: It is very possible that all of these players end up back at Bayern Munich in July. With finances in the footballing world so unstable, €18 million for Cuisance or €15 million for Zirkzee might just be too much for some clubs to handle. It could get really crowded once again on Säbener Straße, which might call for a “<em>Brazzo Fire Sale</em>” if the roster gets <em>too</em> big.<a href="https://www.skysports.com/transfer-centre">Upamecano has some heavy hitters chasing him (Sky Sports)</a>Bayern Munich looks to be in the driver’s seat in its pursuit of Dayot Upamecano, but the RB Leipzig defender has some very deep-pocketed clubs from England chasing him as well. <a href="https://thebusbybabe.sbna…
FC Nantes v Olympique Marseille - Ligue 1Photo by Jonathan Bartolozzi/Olympique de Marseille via Getty ImagesCould it be a one-and-done loan stint for Bayern Munich’s Michaël Cuisance with Olympique Marseille?Michaël Cuisance started his loan spell at Olympique Marseille in impressive fashion, but things seem to have cooled down a lot. Cuisance has not had the most productive season and lost one of his biggest internal supporters when Andre Villas-Boas resigned from his managerial duties. Now, it seems as if Cuisance would probably like to stay in France, but it does not look likely that Olympique Marseille will pull the trigger on its €18 million purchase option. This news will surely be a blow to many who were hoping to see Bayern Munich generate revenue through the sale of Cuisance and other loanees.Tz’s Manuel Bonke tweeted that Cuisance’s future with Marseille will be determined later this month, but it was largely dependent on what kinds of plans new manager Jorge Sampaoli has for Cuisance:Eine Entscheidung über eine mögliche Rückkehr von Michael #Cuisance von Marseille zum #FCBayern im Sommer fällt frühestens Ende März. Der Spieler will abwarten, ob und wie der neue OM-Trainer Jorge Sampaoli mit ihm plant. #FCBTransfersommer— Manuel Bonke (@mano_bonke) March 1, 2021A decision about a possible return for Michael #Cuisance from Marseille to #FCBayern summer falls at the end of March at the earliest. The player wants to wait and see if and how the new OM coach Jorge Sampaoli plans with him.#FCBTransfersommerBonke’s news seemed in line with report from French outlet L’Equipe (behind a paywall).Sport Bild’s Christian Falk replied to Bonke’s tweet and did not sound overly optimistic that Olympique Marseille wanted Cuisance back as much as he might want to stay:To be TRUE ✅: Derzeit hat Cuisance keine guten Karten bei @OM_Officiel dass der Klub seine Kaufklausel ziehen will. Bisher hat er sportlich enttäuscht— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) March 1, 2021To be TRUE: At the moment, Cuisance has no good cards at @OM_Officiel that the club wants to pull its purchase clause. So far he has disappointed athleticallyThe situation is ongoing, of course, but it does appear that the #StepOverKing could be headed back to Bavaria in July.

Let’s take a look at who Sport Bild has listed to be sold in the coming months:<strong>1. Corentin Tolisso — Contract ends 2022:</strong> The French midfielder might need a move more than Bayern Munich needs to move him. With limited midfield depth, the Bavarians seem to have concluded that they will attempt to sell him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2022. It is a smart play for Bayern Munich if they are unsure if Tolisso can stay healthy or if he can accept being stuck behind Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich on the depth chart. Tolisso’s injury-plagued status, however, might also make buyers a little hesitant to commit a fair fee in exchange for the midfielder.<strong>BFW Analysis:</strong> Tolisso is a great talent, but the player needs a fresh start. Losing him won’t necessarily help Bayern Munich, but would be a good boost for the Frenchman in an effort to find a place where he can be a regular starter. <a href="https://www.serpentsofmadonnina.com">Inter Milan</a> and <a href="https://www.blackwhitereadallover.com">Juventus</a> are among the clubs who have allegedly expressed interest in Tolisso.<strong>2. Bouna Sarr — Contract ends 2024:</strong> Sarr was inexplicably given a four-year deal last summer and proceeded to have a pretty wretched season, where he found himself relegated to the bench. There is some line of thought that Sarr could actually play a role under new boss Julian Nagelsmann, but Sarr was not all that good when called upon this season.<strong>BFW Analysis:</strong> If Bayern Munich can cut its losses and find a buyer, they should sell. Olympique Marseille was rumored to have interest in Sarr.<strong>3. Michaël Cuisance — Contract ends 2024:</strong> After an unproductive loan stint at Olympique Marseille, most observers are expecting Cuisance to return to Bayern Munich. While the club could certainly use Cuisance as a depth piece behind Thomas Müller, Goretzka, and Kimmich, it seems as if the Bavarians are more interested in parting ways with the #StepOverKing.<strong>BFW Analysis:</strong> Given Bayern Munich’s lack of depth and the likelihood that Tolisso will be an easier and more lucrative sale than Cuisance, the 21-year-old could actually benefit from a spell under Nagelsmann. It remains to be seen, however, if Bayern Munich has seen enough from Cuisance to know it does not want to see any more.<strong>4. Joshua Zirkzee — Contract ends 2023:</strong> Certain to return from a dreadful, injury-riddled loan stint at Parma Calcio 1913, Zirkzee’s future at Bayern Munich is extremely cloudy. Like a few of the club’s other youth players, the Dutchman appears to have a hit a wall with his development at Bayern Munich and might benefit from a move.<strong>BFW Analysis:</strong> Zirkzee’s meteoric start with Bayern Munich had many fans hopeful, but the youngster’s form has dipped severely during the 2020/2021 campaign. This is the classic case of figuring out whether or not a player just needs to move and start over or if he should try and chip away at building a future in Munich.<strong>5. Fiete Arp — Contract ends 2024:</strong> The young striker has suffered through two injury-plagued seasons on Säbener…
Training Kick Off Bayern MuenchenPhoto by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesBayern is doing everything they can to get a deal struck for Cuisance to go somewhere else before the window closes.Bayern Munich has a bit of a conundrum on their hands with midfielder Michael Cuisance, famously known here at BFW as the “#StepOverKing.” Per a new report from Bild, it is clear that Bayern does not want to keep hold of him and would like to sell him at some point before the summer transfer window closes.Per the report, Turkish side Galatasaray has expressed keen interest in signing the Frenchmen, but Bayern has confirmed that they have not yet lodged any official offers. They do, however, report that contact has been made between representatives of the Süper Lig club, Bayern’s front office, and Cuisance’s agent. From Galatasaray’s perspective, they are more interested in setting up some sort of a loan deal, similar to what Bayern did with Olympique Marseille for Cuisance. That can be a potential roadblock, because Bayern would prefer to sell him outright.Personally, Cuisance does not want a move to any club outside of Europe’s top five leagues, but he really might not have much of a choice when push comes to shove. His loan spell at Marseille in Ligue 1 really did not go well by any stretch of the imagination and he was even left out of their last to league matches of the season due to disciplinary reasons. In that sense, his reputation precedes himself as he’s been known to be quite a difficult character to work with from his time at both Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern.FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-BAYERN MUNICH-TRAINING Photo by CHRISTOF STACHE/AFP via Getty ImagesHe’s been training with Bayern at Sabener Strasse since the beginning of July under Julian Nagelsmann, and the new manager has even praised him in training, but that really doesn’t really have any bearing on Bayern’s overall stance on him. It’s clear that Bayern is going to have to work diligently hard to find a solution with him. They want to sell, and the only club currently interested (Galatasaray) would much prefer a loan deal. Bayern might have to get creative and think outside the box to try and figure out the best solution for all parties involved, otherwise Cuisance could just take up space in the squad.

Juventus v Venezia FC - Serie APhoto by Jonathan Moscrop/Getty ImagesThe volatile Frenchman might be getting his career back on track.Former Bayern Munich midfielder Michaël Cuisance came to the Rekordmeister with flashy skills, an iffy attitude, and a fair amount of expectations. After being thrust into an environment where he was the lowest of low men on the totem pole for his position, Cuisance went through a cycle of pouting, providing some hope, and getting frustrated.Venezia FC v SSC Napoli - Serie A Photo by Matteo Ciambelli/DeFodi Images via Getty ImagesMichael Cuisance is playing his trade for Venezia.Bayern Munich first tried to work with Cuisance on campus, but the squad was so deep that there was little chance for playing time — which never sat well with the Frenchman. Cuisance did, however, gain a spot in BFW lore with #StepOverKing moniker for trying to show off his skill whenever he got a sliver of a chance.Cuisance had an odd, failed transfer to Leeds United in the fall of 2020, but in October of that year (remember the COVID-induced transfer window changes?), Bayern Munich shipped Cuisance off to Olympique Marseille in hopes of rejuvenating his career — it did not work and he returned to Bayern Munich for the start of the 2021/22 season.Eventually, in January of 2022, Bayern Munich sold Cuisance to Venezia. In all, Cuisance tallied 13 appearances, two goals, and two assists in 384 minutes while playing for Bayern Munich. During his loan season with Marseille, Cuisance has two goals and one assist in 30 appearances covering 1288 minutes.Last season after his transfer, Cuisance made 13 appearances with no goals and no assists in 928 minutes for Venezia.Things, however, might be getting a little better for Cuisnace during the start of the 2022/23 campaign for Cuisance as Venezia is now in Serie B. Cuisance scored goals against Südtirol (2-1 win on August 21st) and Cittadella (1-1 draw on August 28th).Cuisance has played 281 minutes over four games, but was not in the squad for Venezia’s first two games (one for Coppa Italia and one for Serie B), nor its most recent match (September 17th). The absences were not due to injury. There were some rumblings that Cuisance would be headed to Torino over the summer, but ultimately nothing came of those rumors. Can he reach the heights that were once expected of him? For Cuisance, the jury is still out.

FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Marcel Engelbrecht - firo sportphoto/Getty Images Time to settle down. Harry Kane has had a blistering start to life as a Bayern Munich player, banging in goals from all angles—all whilst living nomadically. The England captain had been staying in a hotel for the time being while he and his family continued to look for a house to move into next month, and they may have just found one:Harry Kane's wife and four kids are expected to move over in December, into the villa of a former Bayern player who's since gone to play for a foreign club [@honigstein, @TheAthleticFC]— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) November 14, 2023The most intriguing part of the report is that the villa was the residence of a former player of the Rekordmeister who has since been sold and the guessing game began; commenters under that tweet have speculated on whose house it was.Names such as Sadio Mané, Lucas Hernandez, and Robert Lewandowski were brought up but it might be transfers that preceded the above players. So, it could be the #StepOverKing/Eminem himself Michael Cuisance, Thiago (though there was an older report that his house was used by someone else), or Juan Bernat.Whose house do you think it was? FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-WOLFSBURG-BAYERN MUNICH Photo by KAI PFAFFENBACH/POOL/AFP via Getty Images Long live the #StepOverKing... It has been nine months since the last update for this series, but we’re back and it’s time to cover a memorable ex-Bayern Munich player, in more ways than one. Although he has already been featured once before, this is an update to his whereabouts.Michael Cuisance was a bit of a character before, during, and after his time at Bayern. The French midfielder showed some promise but was overshadowed by his temperamental nature. Signed from Borussia Mönchengladbach, the Bavarians thought they could whip him into shape but were unable to assert their influence on him, and Cuisance on the team.Cuisance spent three years at Bayern with the senior team and the reserves (Bayern II) and tallied four goals and two assists in 18 games in all competitions. His most memorable moment with Bayern came in the 4-0 over VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the 2019/20 season where he did a step over and curled a shot that went top bins. That was where the name #StepOverKing came from; he is also called Eminem/Slim Shady for his blonde hair and nasty temper. Media How the mighty have fallen Since then, he has had a journeyman career, failing to establish himself in England (a.k.a. Leeds United’s medical staff), France (Olympique Marseille), Italy (Venezia and Sampdoria on loan), and he’s now back in Germany for a loan stint with VfL Osnabrück.Since leaving Bayern, he has played 76 games and has nine goal contributions (six goals and three assists) to show for it. He also has as many yellow cards (8) with the four clubs he has played for. Will he ever get his career back on track, or will he settle with being a part-time Twitch streamer?Stats from Transfermarkt and FBref.

VfL Osnabrück - FC St. Pauli Photo by David Inderlied/picture alliance via Getty Images He came, he stepped over and he left… Remember Michaël Cuisance? Consistently labeled as controversial and a difficult character but supremely talented, Bayern Munich purchased him from Borussia Mönchengladbach during the crazy summer transfer window in 2019. Unfortunately, he was never able to make the breakthrough at Bayern despite glimpses of his talent. If anything, he only gained a reputation for injuring players, as the likes of Marcel Sabitzer and Sven Ulreich can attest to. Eventually, he was sold for a cut price fee to Venezia. Since then, he’s gone on two loans, the latest and current on being to 2. Bundesliga side VFL Osnabrück. It’s there where Bild spoke with the Frenchman, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, and brought up his move to Bayern. Does he regret the move?Cuisance was straightforward: “How could I regret playing for the biggest club in Germany? When Bayern calls, it’s hard to say no because it’s a big opportunity for anyone.”But even though he does not regret the experience of playing for Bayern, he admits it may have been the wrong time to make the move. “In hindsight maybe it was too early for such a move. At the time, big players with big names played in my position. Nevertheless, I also learned a lot from these players and it was an important experience in my life, as a person and as a player.”Regardless of his mixed feelings on his move to Bayern, it is how the manner of his departure from Mönchengladbach was perceived that he truly regrets. “I think it’s a pity how people in Gladbach talked about me after my move. It’s one thing to be a tough negotiator, which is fine, but it’s another thing to publicly present misrepresented and untrue things. Things that were always unproblematic suddenly became an issue.”At 24, the #StepOverKing’s career is far from done. Don’t be surprised if he pops up again in the Bundesliga. Though preferably without the habit of injuring Bayern players.

Football Serie A Roma-Sampdoria Photo by Massimo Insabato/Archivio Massimo Insabato/Mondadori Portfolio via Getty Images The #StepOverKing has matured. One of the most curious Bayern Munich transfers in recent years was the acquisition of Michaël Cuisance from Borussia Mönchengladbach back in 2019. A good talent, there was simply no role for Cuisance in Bavaria when he was acquired or really at any point during his tumultuous tenure with the club. An argument could be made that it was the perfect mix for failure — and that is exactly what happened. However, Cuisance did find his way into quite a few — alleged — controversies during his time in Bavaria. An alleged scuffle with Robert Lewandowski? Reportedly tossing a training bib at Julian Nagelsmann? Yup, Cuisance had his moments. Now, Cuisance is on loan at VfL Osnabrück from Venezia and looking to revamp a once-promising career. “Today I’m a different Mika than I was back then [at Bayern]. I have changed, especially off the pitch. When I went to FC Bayern, I thought to myself: I’ve made it. And then I didn’t work hard enough anymore. Today I know that I should have given 200% and done extra sessions. It was a great opportunity and I threw it away. I wasn’t ready,” said Cuisance. That is a deep statement from a player who sometimes came across as petulant or immature during his time in Bavaria. Playing mostly as a No. 8, Cuisance has three goals and one assist in 19 games in 2. Bundesliga. The turnaround has started for the Frenchman, but now it will be up to him to push onward and continue to improve.pic.twitter.com/AIj13kjRA9— Follow @FootColic for all goal clips (@JannetMunr27408) March 3, 2024Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s recent form, transfer strategy, coaching search, and also some takes on Julian Nagelsmann’s potential XI for the German national team? Until the end of June, the release clause for Führich can be triggered! Führich would have been a different look at wing for Bayern Munich, but the New World Order in the front office seems like it is going to have another go at surrounding Harry Kane with shoot-first options on the wing once again rather than someone who might have a different style of play.
