James Rodriguez and Thiago Alcantara join injury list
MediaBoth midfielders are set for short spells on the sidelines This summer has not been great when it has come to the health and fitness of Bayern Munich players, and Tuesday’s loss to Liverpool in the Audi Cup left Bayern with even more injury issues. Bayern made it official Wednesday that midfielders Thiago Alcantara and James Rodriguez both suffered muscle injuries and will be unavailable for the DFL-Supercup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. @jamesrodriguez10 & @thiago6 are both set for a short spell on the sidelines. Thiago’s abdominal injury does not appear to be as severe, and as of now, he is only expected to miss the Supercup. David Alaba, who was also forced to come off against Liverpool, received treatment and will train by himself on Thursday. On a brighter note, the Abendzeitung reported Wednesday that Jerome Boateng and Arjen Robben are hoping to be available for the Supercup. Thiago Alcantara back in training
MediaFinally, some good news. Bayern Munich received a huge boost on Tuesday as Spanish midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara finally returned to team training. The former Barcelona midfielder was sidelined by an abdominal muscle injury in a preseason game against Liverpool. After at least one setback in his recovery, the Spaniard is finally fit to train with the team. Astonishingly (or unsurprisingly, if you’re a hardened Bayern fan) this is Thiago’s second comeback from injury since the preseason began. The club’s Instagram account announced his return with a cheery photo: @thiago6 is back in training #MiaSanMia #packmas #FCBayern #Thiago A post shared by FC Bayern Official (@fcbayern) on Aug 22, 2017 at 4:34am PDTIf Thiago can stay fit, then coach Carlo Ancelotti might have headache figuring out who to start in Bayern’s midfield. With new signings Sebastian Rudy and Corentin Tolisso already tearing it up, and with the ever-reliable Arturo Vidal available as well, the Spaniard may not find it an easy path back into the lineup. @FCBayernEN: RT @Plettigoal: Update #THIAGO: A new possible player should be a backup for Kimmich & Goretzka. They a have a huge trust in Nianzou as a defensive midfielder. Moreover the transfer plans are linked to the future of Tolisso. If he stays, no more transfers for the midfield are possible. @SPORT1i
Breaking: Bayern Munich’s Thiago has agreed personal terms with Liverpool FC
FC Bayern Muenchen v Chelsea FC - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: Second Leg Photo by Matthias Hangst/Getty ImagesThe Spaniard looks set to trade Munich for Merseyside.Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara has looked to be heading out of Munich for a while. Liverpool FC have long been front runners in the race to buy the diminutive Spaniard. Now, it appears that Thiago and Liverpool have agreed personal terms on a contract. This news comes courtesy of reliable RMC sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi and Fabrizio Romano has also just confirmed it:Liverpool are in contact with Bayern Münich for Thiago Alcantara. The player would love to join and Klopp wants him (still working also for Wijnaldum to sign a new contract).
Bayern want no less than €30m to sell Thiago. It’s up to Liverpool now... #LFC #Bayern #Thiago— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 13, 2020According to the reports, the agreed contract is of a duration of four years. Furthermore, Thiago has even told some of his Bayern teammates of his departure and has apparently already been house searching in Liverpool and found a home for himself. Now, only the agreement between the two clubs is stopping the transfer.Thiago has been superb in Bayern’s matches since the Champions League restart. Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool will certainly be gaining a great player in the master burglar, if the clubs can agree on a transfer fee — it’s rumoured that Bayern want around 30M Euros. For Bayern, it’s a shame that the player wanted a new challenge. However, with Leon Goretzka, the void in CM as a result of Thiago leaving will definitely be smaller than initially feared. Hopefully Thiago can have the send off of a CL before he leaves the club. He’s certainly earnt it!Read more...
<b>Report: Barcelona join Liverpool in the race for Bayern’s Thiago Alcantara</b>

It’s 2020, and once again we have rumors of <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/la-liga/teams/barcelona">Barcelona</a> wanting to bring <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/players/199611/thiago-alcantara">Thiago Alcantara</a> back to the Camp Nou. Since the Spaniard transferred to <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/bundesliga/teams/bayern-munich">Bayern Munich</a> in 2013, not a single window has gone by without a “report” of this sort. Only difference is, this time it could actually happen.According to Bild reporter Tobias Altschaffl, Barcelona management are interested in signing Thiago. Only problem is, their new coach only wants Georginho Wijnaldum — whom <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/epl/teams/liverpool">Liverpool</a> are looking to sell. Completing this neatly packaged triangle is the fact that Liverpool also want Thiago, but can’t afford him unless they offload Wijnaldum. So basically, this one rumor encompasses the fate of two players and three separate clubs.UPDATE: FC Barcelona wants Thiago, Koeman wants Wijnaldum.
Barça put pressure on Koeman to change his mind: there has already been contact between Barcelona and the player environment. The question is who fulfills the transfer requirements of <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/fcbayern?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#fcbayern</a>: Barça or <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/LFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#LFC</a>? <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/thiago?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#thiago</a>— Tobi Altschäffl (@altobelli13) <a href="https://twitter.com/altobelli13/status/1302855302115659778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 7, 2020</a>What does all of this mean? Well, imagine that you are Thiago Alcantara, a recent treble-winner and arguably the best midfielder in the world. What would you do in this situation?Sign a new contract with Bayern Munich, and keep winning titles with the best club in the world.Sign for Liverpool FC, play for Jurgen Klopp, and experience a new challenge in the Premier League, while still being a favorite for the <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league">Champions League</a>.Join Barcelona, a club that didn’t appreciate you when you were there, who have major financial problems, are set to lose Leo Messi in a year’s time, and are basically falling apart at the seams. Now I don’t claim to know you or Thiago, but I imagine that #3 is possibly the worst option you could pick. Given Barca’s situation at the moment, any player of Thiago’s caliber would have serious misgivings about joining. Sure, he might secure a fat salary, and he could get the chance to go back to Spain — but Thiago has never shown nostalgia for his time at Barca. In addition, Hansi Flick indicated that the Spaniard was looking for a “new challenge”, and going back to his old club doesn’t seem like it fits that criteria.Of course, football is weird and anything could happen. Thiago could be plotting a move to FC Basel for all we know, and the Liverpool rumors are a smokescreen. Or maybe Bild’s getting their wires crossed (wouldn’t be the first time). A big problem with the current rumor is that Barca’s new coach, <a href="https://www.sbnation.com/soccer/epl/players/246438/ronald-koeman">Ronald Koeman</a>, doesn’t actually want the Spaniard, which is a big red flag. Are we supposed to believe that the pea-brains who run Barcelona have finally managed to…

Media Photo by Michael Regan - UEFA/UEFA via Getty ImagesThe premier league champions finally agree to Bayern Munich’s transfer fee of 30 million Euros.Thiago Alcantara’s move to England, which has been a subject of discussion for the past few months, looks like it is finally concluding. According to the most recent update by The Athletic, the Spaniard is extremely close to sign for Liverpool. The Premier League champions have reportedly agreed to accept Bayern Munich’s transfer fee of 30€ million (£27.3 million). It was reported that Liverpool previously tried to bring the price tag down to around 15€ million but has now settled for 30 due to Jürgen Klopp’s intense interest in bringing Thiago to Anfield. Personal terms are still to be agreed but that is believed to happen in the coming hours as the Germans have made it clear earlier this week that they want to close the deal before the new season of the Bundesliga kicks off.Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool will be a ‘done deal’ soon - as per @TheAthleticUK info.
Bayern Münich always asked for €30m as price tag and they’re gonna get it. Liverpool accepted to pay after Klopp pushing to get Thiago. <b>¡Adios, Thiago!</b>
With Thiago, FC Bayern lose not only the best midfielder in the squad, but also a piece of Bayern heritage. Although some could never warm to his enigmatic playing style, with him one of the most complete footballers is leaving the club.“Thiago or nobody!” These three words have entered the history books at FC Bayern. They are words that led to one of the best transfers in the history of the club. Thiago Alcántara do Nascimento – or simply Thiago – joined the German record champions in 2013 to work with Pep Guardiola. He would not only change the club’s footballing culture, but also grow as a person in a foreign country with a foreign culture. He is a promise to the future. A gifted footballer, who perhaps represents the successful concept of “La Masia” at FC Barcelona more faithfully than anyone else. He could have become a worthy successor to Xavi or Iniesta, but then decided to break out of his comfort zone and follow the path to a footballing culture that has its problems with technically gifted footballers. A culture in which, to put it bluntly, only those become heroes who know how to fight – not so much those who are artists on the ball and with every of their touches make the game look effortless. A Bastian Schweinsteiger, for instance, was mostly recognized for his mental strengths rather than his technical abilities. Many remember his bloodstained face in the World Cup final, but less so his strategically clever movements in the Champions League final. There are prejudices in almost every culture. It seems to be deeply ingrained in the German football culture that artists and smooth ball handlers are fair-weather players who lack the necessary commitment in the game against the ball. Not everyone thinks so, of course. But the problems that many have with players like Thiago conspicuously often sound like this. The Spaniard, however, emphatically managed to persuade many people who thought that way about him at the beginning differently during his time at Bayern. He made sure that this prejudice has disappeared for good from many people’s minds.<a href="#thiago-alcantara-leader-rather-than-fair-weather-artist"></a>Thiago Alcántara: Leader rather than “fair-weather artist”But let us start at the beginning: Thiago’s signing has to be considered a great stroke of luck in 2013. At the time, Thiago is yet a player at one of the best clubs in Europe and is blessed with great talent. But there is no place for him in a midfield that is unique in the history of soccer: Sergio Busquets, Iniesta and Xavi.Even though Xavi’s career in particular is already in its twilight, Thiago sees no other way than to move to a new club. For Bayern, this is perfect timing. With Pep Guardiola, a new coach has come to Säbener Straße, who to this day has an incredible appeal for players to work with. This is especially true for Thiago, whom he already knew from their common time at Barcelona. The relationship between the two is very good and so the phrase is coined: “Thiago or nobody!”To enter the team at the newly crowned treble winners is anything but easy. But the special constellation with Guardiola as his coach gave him a head start. Thiago knew the philosophy of the coach. He quickly became the necessary piece of the puzzle in midfield to implement the coach’s new ideas, despite competition from such players like Toni Kroos, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mario Götze.<a href="#gotze-the-unfulfilled-promise"></a>Götze the unfulfilled promiseThiago immediately managed to impress as a playmaker and pacemaker in midfield, but then he suffered a serious injury. A syndesmosis ligament rupture led to his being out for about two months. But as soon as he returned, the Spaniard made his first magical appearance: In Dortmund both he and newcomer Götze came on in the final phase of the game. Immediately, the two harmonized as if they had been on the pitch together for years. Within minutes, they raised their team’s game to another level.…
