Spain v Germany: Quarter-Final - UEFA EURO 2024 Photo by Alex Livesey/Getty Images Is another center-back on his way to Bayern Munich? In recent days, the talks between Bayern Munich and Manchester United have started to heat up again. Both outside-back Noussair Mazraoui and center-back Matthijs de Ligt could be on their way to England, so it is no coincidence that rumors began to resurface linking Bayer Leverkusen defender and Germany international Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich. For a few weeks now, talks have been dormant because Bayer Leverkusen’s financial demands were too high, but that could be changing per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: Bayern’s offer of €20m (+5) for Jonathan #Tah is still on the table and valid. Leverkusen has now moved away from €35/40m. This is also because Tah has once again made it clear internally in recent days that he will not extend his contract and wants to join Bayern immediately. Leverkusen wants a decision soon.An agreement in the range of €30m (25+5) is conceivable. It seems as if Tah’s potential transfer is directly linked to what happens with De Ligt. Would it be the worst thing if Bayern Munich waited out Tah’s contract until he was a free agent next summer? No, but it appears that the Bavarians want him pretty badly and to get him, there will be a cost associated with such a transaction. Looking for more thoughts and analysis of what is going on with Bayern munich during this offseason, plus a breakdown of the front office’s oddball transfer strategy and roster management? What about some ideas on what Bayern Munich could be cooking up with Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz? Good, then we have you covered with our Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show. FC Bayern Munich Audi Summer Tour 2024 In Asia Photo by S. Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Bayern Munich has given up on a major overhaul of the roster... Ultimate plans: Bayern final sale list exposed (@Plettigoal)Well, after some grand plans of selling off as many as nine players were floated earlier this summer for Bayern Munich, it looks like the list has been paired down to just four players — Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Zaragoza, and Kingsley Coman. Even then, Bayern Munich might only just loan away Coman and Zaragoza. Check out Plettenberg’s report: FC Bayern now focused on four main departures: Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Zaragoza (loan) and Kingsley Coman (loan or sale). All the other candidates for sale are expected to stay at this stage. The transfers of Désiré #Doué and Jonathan #Tah are to be finalized with the proceeds from the sales of De Ligt and Mazraoui. Most important sale to obtain further approvals from the supervisory board:De Ligt to Manchester United for €50m + add-ons ✔️So...what happened? Well, Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies both seem content to ride out the last year of their respective deals, Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry will not entertain a move, and Leroy Sané seems like he is getting a contract extension. What all of that means is that if Désiré Doué and Jonathan Tah are, indeed, brought in, there will be an absolute logjam of players on the backline and at wing — which could prove difficult for Vincent Kompany to manage this season. United, Gunners like cheap deal for Chiesa (TEAMtalk via 90MIn.com)Manchester United and Arsenal FC both like the idea of getting Federico Chiesa on the cheap: Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested in a cut-price deal for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who has been frozen out in Turin ahead of a summer exit. It’s not over...Tah still on Bayern’s radar despite reports (@Plettigoal)Rumors swirled that Bayern Munich was going to walk away from a pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen center-back and Germany international Jonathan Tah, but Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg posted that the Bavarians could still be in the mix for the 28-year-old: No surprise and as expected: FC Bayern let the deadline (yesterday at 11:59 PM) and set by Leverkusen pass without making an €30m offer for Jonathan #Tah ✔️▫️There is still no approval for a new offer from Bayern‘s supervisory board since De Ligt and Mazraoui have not been sold yet. This is what we have on tap: Bayern Munich is reportedly going to pass on a transfer of Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah — even if it sells Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United. Bayer 04 Leverkusen v VfB Stuttgart - DFB Cup: Quarterfinal Photo by Marco Steinbrenner/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Where will the German national team star play in 2024/25? Dueling reports indicate that Germany national team star Jonathan Tah’s future could be clarified soon. Will the 28-year-old continue at Bayer Leverkusen, or make the move to Bayern Munich?Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg says that from Leverkusen’s side, the deal is open: ⚫️⚠️ As reported in recent days: Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes now confirms that a transfer of Jonathan #Tah to FC Bayern is NOT off ✔️Rolfes re-opens the door for a deal after Bayern let a deadline set by #B04 pass on Thursday without matching Leverkusen’s asking price of €30m: ⤵️“The transfer window runs until August 30th. Of course, we have ideas and know what we want to do.”“I am not responsible for the financial situation of other clubs. Our stance is clear: Jona is an important player. He played a good game today (against Betis Sevilla) - very concentrated, focused, and that’s how he trains as well.”Nothing has changed: Tah wants the move! Eberl, Freund, and Kompany are still keen to sign him if the supervisory board permits two more signings.@SkySportDE However, a report from kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) indicates that Bayern may not make a move for another center-back — even after the impending departure of Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United:Bayern have no plans to replace Matthijs de Ligt. Five players from the current squad can play at centre-back: Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, Eric Dier, Hiroki Itō (who will be fit again in October) and Josip Stanišić. Jonathan Tah will not be signed under the current conditions demanded by Leverkusen, several sources have confirmed to @kicker. Unless something unforeseen happens, Tah is currently no longer a topic at Säbener Straße [@FrankLinkesch]So what will it be? If reports from throughout the transfer window are to be believed, Tah has many admirers at Säbener Straße — and it could be just an attempt by Bayern to indicate it is negotiating from a position of strength. However, the Bavarians would have to really be willing to walk away — and head into the season with five players at center-back, one of them injured, and two of them also providing depth at the fullback positions.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Real Betis - Pre-Season Friendly Photo by Christof Koepsel/Getty Images Will Bayern Munich get Jonathan Tah? The closer the transfer deadline gets, the more cloudy the situation for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah is becoming. There were a series of reports sourced from different outlets regarding Bayern Munich’s interest in Tah.CaughtOffside’s Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia)Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Bayern munich was seeking to ink one more center-back and that Tah’s agent is still negotiating with the Bavarians: Bayern are expected to sign one more center-back after selling Matthijs de Ligt. Jonathan Tah’s agent is still working on the deal for him to move to the Allianz Arena so let’s wait for developments there, but he’s expected to be the new centre-back for Bayern.Sky Sport’s Florian PlettenbergMeanwhile, Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg reiterated that Tah wants the move to Bavaria and that a transfer is still possible: ⚫️⚠️ As reported in recent days: Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes now confirms that a transfer of Jonathan #Tah to FC Bayern is NOT off ✔️Rolfes re-opens the door for a deal after Bayern let a deadline set by #B04 pass on Thursday without matching Leverkusen’s asking price of €30m: ⤵️“The transfer window runs until August 30th. Eberl, Freund, and Kompany are still keen to sign him if the supervisory board permits two more signings.Bild (via @iMiaSanMia)Finally, Bild issued a report which stated that Bayern Munich might be torn internally about whether not the club should actually pursue Tah: Even though Bayern have funds available for Jonathan Tah after selling De Ligt and Mazraoui, there’s still disagreement within the club’s bosses over the move. If no new offer arrives in the next few days, Tah should start thinking about how serious Bayern really are about him as the whole thing has been dragging on for far too long. The last offer (€20 + €5m) was made almost 7 weeks ago. Leverkusen have not yet closed the door to a sale, but are currently continuing to plan with Tah.BFW AnalysisIf the Bayern Munich front office and supervisory board are actually disagreeing on the move, it does not necessarily mean that the deal is officially dead. The Bavarians could still look to get Tah and could just be posturing to lower the price on the German international. Interested in an in-depth review of Bayern Munich’s preseason so far? Arsenal v FC Bayern - 2019 International Champions Cup Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Bongarts/Getty Images The Frenchman is closing in on a transfer out of Bavaria. Transfer developments are moving fast with Bayern Munich and Kingsley Coman. The Frenchman is said to be heavily weighing a move away from the German Rekordmeister in the transfer window’s closing days, with a Premier League club his preferred destination. Now Arsenal FC may oblige. However the move will not be easy, as detailed by Daily Mail reporter Sami Mokbel. As captured via @iMiaSanMia:Arsenal have explored a move for Kingsley Coman ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline. Mikel Arteta wants to sign a forward as he looks to add greater competition in wide attacking areas. The cost of bringing Coman to the Emirates will be key towards any successful move, particularly given the lucrative wages on offer in Saudi Arabia [@SamiMokbel81_DM]The Gunners, felled by Bayern in last year’s Champions League, are looking to bolster their wings, where they already have the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard. However, they will likely need to at least be competitive with Saudi Arabia club Al-Hilal on the finances. From the Bayern perspective, the move could also have (had) impact on its play for Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah — as explained by Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg: Kingsley #Coman has not made a decision yet whether he will join Al-Hilal or not. However, FC Bayern hope for a decision within the next few hours in order to move forward with other personnel matters.Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, still working on Jonathan #Tah deal. Eberl still wants Tah (@Plettigoal)There are some conflicting rumors floating around on whether or not Bayern Munich still wants Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah. According to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl would still like to bring in Tah. Would Tah represent an upgrade to the team’s center-back core? Eberl might think so...or he might just want another option for depth: ⚫️ Jonathan #Tah still plans to leave Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a free transfer in summer ✔️
A contract extension is completely off the table for the 28y/o. Leverkusen bosses also do not expect him to extend his contract.

VfL Bochum 1848 v Bayer 04 Leverkusen - Bundesliga Photo by Pau Barrena/Getty Images Someone please buy him already, put everyone out of their misery Bayern Munich is not exactly looking for a center-back right now, despite its current group of center-backs not set in stone just yet. Jonathan Tah has been a name that was thrown around for a long time, and now Bayer Leverkusen have shot themselves in the foot for asking too much money with Tah leaving on a free:Jonathan #Tah will not extend his contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. FC Bayern and FC Barcelona are two concrete options for a free transfer in summer, and it is currently highly likely that he will choose one of these clubs. The 28y/o centre-back also remains on the radar of Real Madrid, as well as top Italian clubs such as Inter, according to BILD.– Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal)Bayern and FC Barcelona are the frontrunners in this saga which is beginning to enter Leroy Sané and Harry Kane territory because it’s starting to drag on. Real Madrid is a new entry due to their injury crisis.

Crystal Palace FC v AFC Bournemouth - Premier League Photo by Shaun Brooks - CameraSport via Getty Images Departures in Bavaria are needed first, which could give Premier League clubs the upper hand. Bayern Munich’s search for a new center-back with left-footed ball-playing ability could be landing on the ambipedal Bournemouth star, Dean Huijsen. But the 20-year-old is a hot commodity on the transfer market, and Bayern cannot yet commit to a play for him — without shifting one of its own current center-backs. That’s according to a report from Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg: FC Bayern have held partly concrete talks with Dean #Huijsen’s management in recent weeks. Max Eberl is fully informed about all the details. As previously reported, Bayern are exploring the market for a new top centre-back. Jonathan #Tah has also been discussed again.Huijsen is currently one of FC Bayern‘s top candidates – but only in the event of departures (e.g. Kim). That’s why Bayern cannot push ahead in negotiations at this stage. Other clubs are further along, with Liverpool and Chelsea, for example, showing more concrete interest. #LFC However, Huijsen can well imagine a move to Bayern. The race remains open. €58m release clause.@SkySportDE At €58M, Huijsen’s release clause should not be an obstacle for any of the deep-pocketed clubs interested. But Bayern’s inability to move just yet could be a problem, as Huijsen ultimately needs to be convinced by his next club first.Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga triumph over Mainz 05 ? Bayern Munich could have a chance again with Jonathan Tah after all.The German men’s national team defender is leaving Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer at the end of the year, which naturally has FC Barcelona interested...but the Catalans have not been able to get the deal over the line, because — and please take a big swig of your nearest beverage before reading this — of the club’s ongoing financial issues. Here is the situation as reported by Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg: Jonathan #Tah has had a verbal agreement with FC Barcelona for several weeks. However, nothing has been signed yet, as the transfer cannot be completed at this stage. If the move to Barca falls through, major opportunities could arise. Real Madrid (in the event Xabi Alonso arrives this summer) and FC Bayern are keeping a close eye on him. Bayern have internally revisited the situation in recent days and Real like him a lot. Also worth noting: Alonso and Tah share a strong relationship.@SkySportDE Barça has Hansi Flick while Real Madrid could land Xabi Alonso. And Bayern remain the German record champions. It looks like the 29-year-old will have his pick of next destinations.Maybe Lothar Matthäus gets his wish.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Lars Baron/Getty Images Everything seems in place for Bayern Munich and Jonathan Tah... Back in 1983, Stephen King released a novella in graphic novel format call Cycle of the Werewolf, which would later be made into the 80s cult classic flick, Silver Bullet. The story followed the actions of a werewolf month-to-month in a chronological fashion. Well, we have our own version of this (minus the cool artwork) — Cycle of the Jonathan Tah Transfer.Check out the developments over the last two days, which make it seem like a deal between Bayern Munich and Tah — a free agent after the season — is just a matter of time. Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg — May 12th, 12:10PM EDTWord started to leak that the rumors on Bayern Munich and Tah were legit and also that all contractual details were in place: ⏳ FC Bayern have internally approved all financial details regarding Jonathan #Tah. All of the club’s decision-makers want him as the top replacement for Eric Dier.Bayern are offering a very attractive long-term contract. All that’s missing now is Tah’s final approval, with a decision expected soon. The club remain very optimistic.Tah has been a transfer target again for several weeks, as exclusively revealed. Just a few days ago, Barcelona were Tah’s most likely destination. The player’s camp and the Catalans had already agreed on a summer transfer. However, Barça could not guarantee Tah that he would be registered for the upcoming season, which put him off. Barcelona now suspects that Tah is more inclined to move to Munich. Bayern are also aware of that and now want to take advantage of their position as favourites Max Eberl is working hard to finalize the deal. Negotiations are ongoing. Final details still need to be clarified. But Tah is very open to a move to Munich. Bayern are optimistic. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via @iMiaSanMia) — May 12th, 5:27PM EDTFabrizio Romano declared that Bayern Munich was leading the race for Tah: Bayern are ahead of all other clubs in the race for Jonathan Tah and have been in concrete talks for the defender since the end of April. The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana and Seb Stafford-Bloor (via @iMISanMia) — May 12th, 5:30PM EDTThe Athletic reported that it would be a three-year deal with an option for a fourth year: Jonathan Tah is in advanced talks to join Bayern as a free agent, with the expectation of concluding a 3-year deal with an option for another year.Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (via @iMiaSanMia) — May 12th, 4:01 EDTSport Bild checked back in to report that the move was approved by the supervisory board: During yesterday’s supervisory board meeting, the board members approved the transfer of Jonathan Tah. Max Eberl was given the green light to offer Tah a 3-year deal until 2028 and bring him to Munich this summer.German outlet kicker (via @iMiaSanMia) — May 13th, 4:34AM EDTGerman outlet kicker delved into more details of where Tah was in the process with Barca before it all fell apart: Jonathan Tah had a deal agreed with Barcelona, but the move has now definitely fallen through because the Catalans couldn’t guarantee the defender that they would be able to register him for the upcoming season. Everything now indicates that Tah will join FC Bayern on a free transfer, with the German champions stepping up their pursuit of the German international.Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg — May 13th, 6:04AM EDTFinally, Plettenberg checked back into report that Bayern Munich is working with Tah’s agent, Pini Zahavi, on the deal.
