Mellar/FC Bayern via Getty Images Bayern Munich takes on Werder Bremen on Sunday. Bayern targeting Madrid defender? (Football Espana)The big talk swirling of late has been surrounding Real Madrid’s rumored interest in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies. However, maybe the Bavarians are embarking on a counterattack. Per reports out of Spain, Bayern Munich is interested in 21-year-old center-back Rafa Marin: Bayern Munich are understandably growing frustrated with Real Madrid over their pursuit of Alphonso Davies, but reportedly are plotting revenge. While Los Blancos are doing their best not to get on the wrong side of Bayern, Davies has now turned down five renewal offers from the Bavarian side, amid reports that Real Madrid have asked him not to renew his deal. They believe that they can do a deal with Bayern this summer for around €40-50m.Now Sport say that Bayern may go after a Real Madrid defender. Amid their search for central defensive cover, Rafael Marin could be their next target. Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is thought to be one of their top targets, but Matthijs de Ligt could be on his way out of the club, and Eric Dier is only there on loan. With the Araujo deal looking difficult, Bayern are keen on Marin for two reasons. Firstly, he is a young option with great potential, and secondly, it will show Real Madrid that if they intend on pursuing their players, then it will be ‘an eye for an eye’.The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Alaves, where he has become a regular in his first season in La Liga, making 19 appearances so far. Marin has been solid without pulling up any trees. The phraseology at least is something of a false equivalence, given Davies and Marin are not currently in the same category of players. It’s not clear how much Marin would cost, and Real Madrid may even be happy to sell him for the right price.Marin’s deal with Real Madrid ends in 2026, so a move this summer will definitely come with an inflated fee. Is this legitimate or just some transfer gamesmanship?Bayern out on Boey (@Plettigoal)In the midst of all of the transfer rumors swirling around Bayern Munich’s rumored pursuit of Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier was a note from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg that the Bavarians were out of the running for Galatasaray’s Sacha Boey.Boey, while always thought to be somewhat of a longshot, now seems to be completely off the table: Yes, FC Bayern is interested in signing Kieran #Trippier as there’s still no green light from @PSG_inside for a loan of Nordi Mukiele ✔️

Just yesterday, transfer rumors broke that Bayern Munich was taking a close look at Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier — yup, another Englishman potentially on his way to Germany. Paris Saint-Germain Training Session Photo by Aurelien Meunier - PSG/PSG via Getty Images Can Bayern Munich secure a deal? The January transfer window is almost over and Bayern Munich has added one player — former Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier. Knowing that his team has been linked to many players of late, Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel addressed the team’s rumored hunt for a right-back.“We always look for the whole package — young, good-looking and successful,” Tuchel said with a laugh (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “But the situation is tricky. Of course, other clubs have the same goals as us. That’s why the winter transfer window is a bit more complicated than the summer transfer window. “I won’t talk about names because I wouldn’t want others to talk about our players too. The positions we want to strengthen are clearly defined, but even if nothing happens, we will not deviate from our goals and will still try to achieve them with the current squad. If we have the chance to do something and are convinced that it would help the team, like with Eric (Dier), we’ll do it.”Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian also commented on the hunt for a right-back. “You know that we are working on one or two players. But we won’t do anything stupid or unreasonable. If we manage to find one, we’ll get him. And if not, then not,” Dreesen told Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). Hau’s colleague, Florian Plettenberg, provided updated information on one of Bayern Munich’s right-back targets — Paris Saint-Germain star Nordi Mukiele: Nordi #Mukiele still aims for FC Bayern and is confident the transfer will happen in the next days!

Chelsea v Newcastle United - Carabao Cup Quarter Final Photo by Visionhaus/Getty Images If true, where will Bayern Munich look next? According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich could be ready to exit from the Kieran Trippier sweepstakes. The Bavarians started to pursue the English right-back last week and had seemingly made some progress since that point with attempting to bring the England international to Germany. However, there have been persistent stories from England that Newcastle United was not going to let Trippier leave the club. Now, Bayern Munich might feel like it has exhausted all options: Excl. News #Trippier: FC Bayern is now close to withdrawing from the negotiations! ⚠️ After new internal discussions this morning, Bayern currently do not plan to submit a new offer ✔️➡️ Bayern bosses are unwilling to pay any price and they don’t want to do anything unreasonable. Bayern was willing to pay €15-16m, no more. This offer was rejected by Newcastle yesterday. #NUFCThis might actually have less to do with Bayern Munich’s financial flexibility than with Newcastle really only wanting to talk about a sale if the Bavarians submitted a proposal that was significantly over market value for a 33-year-old. With the end of the January transfer window nearing, Bayern Munich still has time to add more depth to its team, but the clock is ticking. Annual General Meeting FC Bayern Munich Photo by Angelika Warmuth/picture alliance via Getty Images The club doesn’t want to wind up spending too much money on a defender they might not need in the long run. The plan for this winter’s transfer window for Bayern Munich has always been to try to land a right back. More specifically, Thomas Tuchel prefers a defender that can play both right back and center back, much like both Benjamin Pavard and Josip Stanišić were able to do when they were still with the club.Over the course of this month, Bayern has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele, Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier, and Galatasaray’s Sacha Boey, but all three players are proving to be more difficult to get than Bayern might have anticipated. As of yet, they have still only signed Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur, though they did also announce the appointment of Maax Eberl as a board member for sport; he is set to start no later than April 1st in his new role. Per new information from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg is out of the running for Trippier: Christoph Freund confirms our exclusive news from today. Kieran #Trippier to FC Bayern, off!

Clubs in talks about the loan structure. Asked whether there’s still hope for Mukiele, Freund answered with ‘Yes’ to Sky. But it’s complicated. Trippier, 100 % off ✔️@SkySportDEBayern also has the thought process that if they can save money during the winter transfer window by not going for a right back, they could have more funds to invest in the market during the summer transfer window. By then, they might also have some confirmed outbound players that could bring in an influx of cash to be reinvested into the squad as well. Of course, if Konrad Laimer is injured enough to miss significant time, Bayern Munich might just have to pay an amount that it might not be totally comfortable with.
