BFW Fight Club: What happened between Mario Mandžukić and Domagoj Vida on the field when the game ended?
Media They didn’t come to blows, but they exchanged some words. Moments after the final whistle sounded and France wrapped up its second World Cup with a 4-2 win over Croatia, Mario Mandžukić and Domagoj Vida had a heated exchange on the field. While no reports have come out explaining what happened as of yet, it appears something went down, but exactly what the issue was is hard to discern. Vida has a smirk on his face, but believe me, he and Mandzukic are NOT HAPPY with one another #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/3wNVAEXzTU— Александр Гомез (@xandergomez) July 15, 20189 Now’s Wide World of Sports, an Australian outlet, noted that Mandžukić went directly after Vida when the game ended; but still, no explanation was given. One of Croatia’s biggest names, star striker Mario Mandžukić was in everything that was good and bad for his side in their disappointing World Cup final loss to France. And the veteran couldn’t keep his emotions in check when the full-time whistle was blown, with the goal scorer making a bee line for his teammate Domagoj Vida, before the pair engaged in a quick but heated exchange. It was not clear what were arguing about as their teammates commiserated each other following the full-time whistle, but it put into perspective what was at stake in the biggest match in Croatia’s football history. Media Getty Images Mandžukić and Vida during happier times...four days ago. Vida looks as if he could have been an extra in Eastern Promises (but in reality he just seems like a free-spirited, family guy), while Mandžukić has never been one to shy away from expressing himself to anyone, anywhere, so this probably shouldn’t be all that shocking. It was likely nothing more than two emotional, hyper-competitors dealing with the harsh realization that a lifetime goal - that was right in their grasp - had just slipped away. For all we know, it might just be the normal interaction between the duo. On the BFW Fight Club scale, this is certainly less hostile than than the Robert Lewandowski-Mats Hummels fracas and Arturo Vidal vs. bar patrons melee, but maybe more volatile than Joshua Kimmich vs. Antonio Rudiger during Die Mannschaft training camp. Aside of that conflict, what a game! Read more...

Lothar Matthaus questions idea of French dynasty
World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus does not believe that a French era of dominance is near despite Les Bleus lifting a second world crown on Sunday.France beat Croatia 4-2 in Moscow to add 2018 success to their 1998 triumph, while banishing the memories of defeat to Portugal in the European Championship final two years ago.Nineteen-year-old Kylian Mbappe was named the tournament’s best young player, while 15 of the 23-man squad are 25 and younger giving France the second youngest squad in the tournament. Many have suggested France can dominate world football in years to come but, writing in Bild, Matthaus disagreed. He wrote: ”I do not believe that the French will establish an era.”The team did not adopt any style or convince with fascinating football.“They did not push their opponents to the edge.”Matthaus’ criticism is nothing new for Didier Deschamps’ side, who were criticised by some for a perceived lack of adventure.Belgium goalkeeper Thibault Courtois accused them of playing “anti-football” during the semi-final, while Croatia’s Dejan Lovren said they “did not play football” in Sunday’s showpiece.⭐️⭐️#FRAFrance have won the 2018 FIFA #WorldCup in Moscow! #FRACRO // #WorldCupFinal pic.twitter.com/fZhmJmxjVh— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) July 15, 2018Read more...

FIFA causes a major stir after the tweet they send to Mesut Ozil
It’s been a tough and emotional summer for Arsenal‘s Mesut Ozil.Back in May, the 29-year-old came under huge scrutiny for meeting and being pictured with Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has strong views on German politics.Ozil grew up in Germany but has Turkish ancestry, yet the German FA (otherwise known as DFB) condemned his actions. He was then part of the Germany squad that crashed out of the World Cup in the group stages last month, which inevitably saw Ozil made a scapegoat.Germany were heavy favourites to defend their crown but lost two out of their three group games to Mexico and South Korea. And because of the abuse he’s received, Ozil has now retired from international football. In a powerful statement, the playmaker confirmed his decision to step down from the national team due to the “racism and disrespect” he has faced recently.“It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that I will no longer be playing for Germany at international level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect,” he wrote.“I used to wear the German shirt with such pride and excitement, but now I don’t. I feel unwanted and think that what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten.“I will no longer stand for being a scapegoat for his incompetence and inability to do his job properly.”Retiring from international football is a decision Ozil clearly felt he needed to make, not that he wanted to make, and now FIFA have been caught up in the storm. In response to Ozil’s sudden retirement, FIFA tweeted the Arsenal man congratulating him but without mentioning the fact it was because of racism, which hasn’t gone down very well.🇩🇪@MesutOzil1088 has called time on his international career with @DFB_Team_EN.Congratulations on being a part of #WorldCup history while wearing the shirt, Mesut 👏 pic.twitter.com/LYaiOHuAvA— FIFA World Cup (@FIFAWorldCup) July 22, 2018“[Mesut Ozil] has called time on his international career with [Germany],” the tweet reads. “Congratulations on being a part of [World Cup] history while wearing the shirt, Mesut.”FIFA’s decision to ignore the racism aimed in Ozil’s direction, despite being an anti-racism establishment, has angered football fans, as you can see in the tweets below.Always talking about anti-racism but now you choose to ignore the larger issue here? The World Cup winner’s current side, VfB Stuttgart, are fighting for survival in the league, but their poor position in the league standings has hardly anything to do with Pavard’s performances. For those who don’t closely follow the Bundesliga, when Pavard’s name is mentioned, they’ll recognize it from that absolute wonder goal he scored for France in the World Cup in their win over Argentina. The goal was voted best goal of the tournament, but he said that the goal shouldn’t have anything to do with what makes him such a complete defender:I didn’t sign for Bayern just because of that one shot. It’s because I’m one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga. Defensively, I’m strong – and technically also. One of the most skillful goals we've seen at the FIFA #WorldCup is the clear choice as our Goal of the Day.

Today, we’re not focusing on Bayern Munich kits for a change. Instead, we’re taking a look at the kits of the national teams around the world as they enter the final stage of preparation for the World Cup.Now, there are a lot of kit sponsors to go around, but most football fans will agree that the big three makers are currently adidas, Puma, and Nike. 26 out of the 32 teams are sponsored by one of the three, with Nike taking the prize for most countries sponsored (13).With the World Cup coming around, all three brands have released their new kits for the upcoming tournament. However, this writer is sorry to say that most of them are average, a lot of them are bad, and some are just hideous. It’s hard to find a good shirt from any of the three brands. Let’s take a look at all three and see just how bad they are.AdidasAdidas, as usual, have smashed it this year. Best kits at the World Cup by a landslide. They’re all creative and look great! #WorldCup pic.twitter.com/oa7iiyJp5i— Finn (@lemurfc) September 13, 2022The German flagship brand probably gets the least amount of criticism for their work, but that’s not saying too much. adidas is normally known to release some gems in major tournaments, but this time, they have not delivered. Argentina, for example, have been presented with a jarring purple away strip. Mexico’s away shirt is a sorry attempt at combining Aztec drawings with football that just looks bizarre and dizzying. Spain’s away kit is blue with a set of wavy lines that make one seasick by looking at it. Belgium’s away kit doesn’t look remotely Belgian, whatever that means.Heck, even Germany has been treated to the ugliest kits they’ve got in the past decade, and it’s very hard to mess up a Germany kit. How do you go wrong with white and black? This batch of adidas kits is definitely one of their worst works in recent memory, but they look marginally better compared to what we’re going to see next.PumaWhich country will be repping the best Puma kit at the FIFA World Cup? pic.twitter.com/bh4LO8hX5T— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) August 29, 2022The other big German brand has shown on multiple occasions why it just cannot escape the looming shadow of adidas, and this World Cup is no exception. The home kits, like adidas, aren’t really too big an issue (although they’re not golazos either), but the away shirts are just ghastly. Every single one of the six away kits has some gigantic box smack in the middle of the shirt for the numbers to go in. It looks like something that someone would wear while running a marathon or a sprint, not in a football match. Without the numbers, it looks even worse. Imagine a gaping hole in the middle of your shirt with nothing to plug it. It looks ugly, it looks out of place, and it is not something that people would want to wear anywhere, be it on or off the pitch. Whether you support Uruguay, Ghana, Switzerland, Serbia, Morocco, or Senegal, you will be severely disappointed to see your team suit up in one of these kits.Nike: All Nike 2022 World Cup Home & Away Kits Released: https://t.co/DzIRlE3jp2— Footy Headlines (@Footy_Headlines) <a href="https://twitter.com/Footy_Headlines/status/1570346200…
