Merry Christmas from Bavarian Football Works!
Media“All I want for Christmas is my two top transfer targets...” Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas time!Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Tra la la la la, la la la la
Berni looks a bit too jolly...Christmas is a very big deal in Bavaria and Munich. In late November, not long after Americans recover from their Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas markets — Weihnachtsmärkte — open up across the city. Munich boasts over two dozen of them, from the giant Christkindlmarkt outside the town hall at Marienplatz all the way to the market at Munich Airport.Beer gardens, otherwise closed for the winter, transform into magical places where people gather together to enjoy some bratwurst, sweets, and other Schmankerln, drink a cup of spiced wine (Glühwein, “glow-wine”), and shop for Christmas gifts at homely stalls. There’s even a medieval-themed market not far from Odeonsplatz that’s my own favorite. ️ pic.twitter.com/Hq2n8XfNmM— Licht der Sterne (@HeuerHeike) December 20, 2018Of course, the writers at BFW are scattered across the globe far from Munich, just like yourselves, and by no means all of us celebrate Christmas — like Franck Ribery and others near and dear to our beloved club. Yet somehow we have all found ourselves here because of our love and interest in all things Bayern Munich. So as our shared club celebrates Bavaria’s big holiday (well, perhaps after Oktoberfest... and Starkbierzeit), we also want to extend season’s greetings to all of you.So wherever you may be, and whatever you may be celebrating around this time of the year, we wish you a happy time with family and friends, good food, strong drink — spiced or not! — and a wonderful, restful end to 2018.In that spirit, Frohe Weihnachten! Merry Christmas from all of us in the BFW family.Einen schönen Start in die Weihnachtsfeiertage wünschen wir Euch, lasst es Euch gut gehen! /al #München #Weihnachten pic.twitter.com/1xGScTM5Fj— München (@muenchen_de) December 24, 2018Read more...
BFW Fight Club: When ultras collide
Media For the most part, we hear good things about the game day experience in Bavaria, but it got a little testy between the Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg fans yesterday. The action on the pitch at the Allianz Arena was intense as Bayern Munich throttled Wolfsburg 6-0 behind a terrific overall performance by Die Roten. The battering, however, was not limited to the soccer field. When ultras from Bayern and Wolfsburg met up in the street, things got a bit heated (as captured by Instagram user 1312_international). The two groups started to engage in a scene that looked straight out of Gangs of New York for a full-scale, “no weapons” brawl on the streets of Munich. A fight in the style of the Russian ‘drakas’, in which the ultra stick with certain laws: they are punched and punched but no weapons.Well, as the character Omar Little famously said on The Wire: “A man’s got to have a code.” Read more...

The FC Bayern Munich Club BadgePhoto by VisionhausBayern Munich can now officially add the fifth star to their team badge after winning the Bundesliga for the 30th time since it was officially formed.Bayern Munich can now officially add a fifth star to their team crest after winning the Bundesliga title for the ninth consecutive season. In total this is the 30th time Bayern had won the Bundesliga since its official formation back in 1963. Of course, they’ve won the title a total of 31 times, but prior to 1963, it wasn’t the Bundesliga; they won it in 1932 when it was still the German Football Championship.Per the DFL’s official dress code for kits and team badges, stars are awarded for winning the league title three times (1), five times (2), ten times (3), twenty time (4), and 30 times (5). Bayern is the first club to have achieved the feat of five stars. From the 2021/22 season onward, all official Bayern products that contain the team badge can be permitted to have five stars.Bayern, in coordination with Adidas, plans out officially rolling out their new kits and licensed apparel with the fifth star added by the middle of July. The jersey is set to be the first item for wide release that will contain the five stars. Adidas wants to ensure production goes smoothly and without error before that start adding stars to other apparel items other than the home kits.Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressed his excitement for the club to have earned its fifth star, recognizing how long of an effort it’s been to get to this moment. “The fifth star on our HOME jerseys is the award for 30 German championships since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963. This is the merit of many generations of players and proof of the decades-long consistency of FC Bayern at the highest level - the fans can count on it of FC Bayern be proud,” the club CEO said.Until we have the official kit release this summer, be sure to check out our kit leaks to preview what some of them are going to look like!#München #FCBayern

The kit for everyone whose heart lies in Munich.

FCB II had a match against Türkgücü München that ended in the most unfortunate of circumstances — boiled-over tensions, police intervention, and people hurt. The match itself was suspended.Bild has the report; also via @iMiaSanMia:Police officers stepped in and the referee sent both teams into the dressing room. Tear gas, pepper spray and batons were used by the police. Four people are said to have been hospitalized, including an 11-year-old boy. According to the report, the banner in question was that of a Kurdish Bayern fan club and was interpreted as a provocation:Such flags must be registered in advance. Without permission they must be taken down. And that is exactly what those responsible for Türkgücü, who saw the action as a provocation against themselves, tried to do. Türkgücü is a club founded by Turkish migrants, Kurdistan is an unrecognized autonomous region in Turkey. So: Türkgücü club representatives tried to get the flag removed; the Bayern fan club refused, and the situation escalated out of hand. “We are the fans you don’t want,” reportedly were the chants from the fan club section. The police arrived on the scene to enforce — pepper spray and clubs deployed against the fans in order to enforce the flag’s removal.
