इंदिरा गांधी राष्ट्रीय मुक्त विश्वविद्यालय (IGNOU) के मानविकी विद्यापीठ एवं हिन्दू अध्ययन द्वारा 06 जुलाई 2026 को "हिंदू" अभिधान का मूल एवं अर्थवत्ता – "हिंदू" शब्द की उत्पत्ति और अर्थ" विषय पर एक विशिष्ट व्याख्यान का सफलतापूर्वक आयोजन किया गया।
कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता प्रोफेसर उमा कांजीलाल, माननीय कुलपति, IGNOU ने की। अपने अध्यक्षीय उद्बोधन में उन्होंने भारतीय ज्ञान परंपरा के अध्ययन को समकालीन संदर्भों में समझने तथा अकादमिक विमर्श को तथ्यपरक एवं शोध-आधारित दृष्टिकोण से आगे बढ़ाने की आवश्यकता पर बल दिया।
मुख्य वक्ता प्रोफेसर नचिकेता तिवारी, आई.आई.टी. कानपुर ने "हिंदू" शब्द की उत्पत्ति, उसके ऐतिहासिक विकास, भाषिक आधार तथा सांस्कृतिक अर्थवत्ता पर विस्तृत एवं विचारोत्तेजक व्याख्यान प्रस्तुत किया। उन्होंने इस विषय के विभिन्न ऐतिहासिक, दार्शनिक एवं साहित्यिक आयामों पर प्रकाश डालते हुए शोधपरक दृष्टिकोण अपनाने का आह्वान किया।
कार्यक्रम का स्वागत प्रोफेसर स्मिता चतुर्वेदी, निदेशक, मानविकी विद्यापीठ ने किया। प्रोफेसर कौशल पंवार ने धन्यवाद ज्ञापन प्रस्तुत किया तथा कार्यक्रम का संयोजन प्रोफेसर देवेश कुमार मिश्र, समन्वयक, हिन्दू अध्ययन द्वारा किया गया।
इस अवसर पर विश्वविद्यालय के शिक्षकगण, शोधार्थी, विद्यार्थी एवं बड़ी संख्या में शिक्षाविद् उपस्थित रहे। व्याख्यान के उपरांत प्रतिभागियों ने विषय से संबंधित प्रश्न पूछे तथा सार्थक संवाद में भाग लिया। कार्यक्रम भारतीय ज्ञान परंपरा और सांस्कृतिक विमर्श के महत्वपूर्ण पहलुओं पर गंभीर शैक्षणिक चर्चा का प्रभावी मंच सिद्ध हुआ।

The programme was chaired by Professor Uma Kanjilal, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU. In her presidential address, she underscored the importance of understanding Indian knowledge traditions in contemporary contexts and emphasised the need to promote academic discourse grounded in facts and rigorous research.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Nachiketa Tiwari, IIT Kanpur, who presented a detailed and thought-provoking lecture on the origin of the word 'Hindu', tracing its historical evolution, linguistic foundations, and cultural significance. He explored the subject from historical, philosophical, and literary perspectives, while advocating for a research-based understanding of the term.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Professor Smita Chaturvedi, Director, School of Humanities. Professor Kaushal Panwar (Kaushalya) proposed the vote of thanks, and the event was coordinated by Professor Devesh Kumar Mishra, Coordinator, Hindu Studies.
The lecture witnessed the participation of university faculty members, researchers, students, and distinguished academicians. An engaging question-and-answer session followed, providing participants with an opportunity for meaningful academic dialogue.
