WEEK 2 β€” The Long Night & Watching (Oct 5–11)

9. October 9 (Friday)

Dear Daughter,

Friday riddle: what does the embers know that the extinguished fire forgets? That warmth can survive the night if someone tends it.
Tonight, tend one small ember of connection with your husband β€” a text, a touch, a shared silence.
Small tending prevents total cold.

'Fan into flame the gift of God' (2 Tim 1:6).
What ember in your marriage needs tending before it goes fully cold?

With the barrage of misinformation surrounding us today, read the Bible, the most reliable, life-transforming, joy-producing, and soul-searching truth available in our world.

Every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

β€œLet him who walks in darkness and has no light trust in the name of the Lord and rely on his God.” Isaiah 50:10

Darkness means I don’t know which way is home or which is over a cliff.

Trust me means the way he leads will be good and wise, either way.

πŸ’ŽWeek 2: Financial Faithfulness and Generosity

🌱 Q3 Commentary: The Sovereign Law of Spiritual Agriculture

🎯 Correct Answer: D

β€’ πŸ“– The Scriptural Blueprint: 2 Corinthians 9:6 (ESV) declares, β€œThe point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”

β€’ πŸ’‘ The Theological Insight: This agricultural metaphor is a favorite weapon of health-and-wealth false teachers, but expository precision reveals its true spiritual nature. Sowing bountifully demands sacrificial, uncalculating giving out of love for the Gospel. The promised "reap" is fundamentally spiritual fruitβ€”the proliferation of righteousness, ministry impact, and the conforming of the heart to Christβ€”not a self-serving guarantee of material enrichment.

β€’ ⚠️ Strategy Breakdown: Option A closely mirrored the phrase structure of Proverbs 11:24 to intercept voters relying on generic biblical memory.

🏺 Q4 Commentary: Exalting God with Firstfruits

🎯 Correct Answer: B

β€’ πŸ“– The Scriptural Blueprint: Proverbs 3:9–10 (ESV) instructs, β€œHonor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty...”

β€’ πŸ’‘ The Theological Insight: True worship cannot be restricted to mere verbal assent; it demands practical material obedience. Offering the firstfruits means honoring God from the absolute top of our earnings, acknowledging Him as the baseline Creator, Owner, and Sustainer of our livelihood. This is an act of proactive faith, demonstrating that our confidence rests in the Provider rather than the preserved harvest.

β€’ ⚠️ Strategy Breakdown: Option A flipped the scriptural order by suggesting giving out of surplus, which requires zero structural

October 10: The Power behind the Drama

#Devotional

Ezekiel 21:1–22:31; Revelation 10:1–11; Job 35:1–8
The concerns that make up our mini-narratives can sometimes distract us from the great drama in which we have been cast. When a mighty angel appears with a scroll in John’s revelation, the apostle’s part in God’s great redemptive drama suddenly becomes very clear. He swaps his role of scribe for that of actor, speaking God’s very words:

β€œAnd I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll, and he said to me, β€˜Take and eat it up, and it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.’ And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it up, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth, and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. And they said to me, β€˜It is necessary for you to prophesy again about many peoples and nations and languages and kings’ β€ (Rev 10:9–11).

John’s new task parallels the prophet Ezekiel’s call to speak God’s words. The prophet eats a scroll to internalize and speak the words of Yahweh, which turn sweet in his mouth (Ezek 2:8–36; see Psa 119:103; Jer 15:16). The words of God are also sweet for John, but the bitterness that follows reveals that a two-fold judgment is coming. God’s words are sweet and comforting for the believers, but they also bring judgment. John has seen what lies behind the curtain, and he is charged with making this drama known to allβ€”even to those who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the Author.

John was charged with bringing the things he had learned to the people and nations of the earth. Today we are all cast in this drama of God’s redemptive work. Our individual narratives should be informed by His greater dramaβ€”they should be seamlessly intertwined so that we display His creative and redemptive work. We should, together with John, profess this truth to all those we encounter.

How are you testifying about the God who brings both comfort and judgment?

October 10 - Christ’s Concern for Souls

#LifeOfChrist

β€œβ€˜Do you not say, β€œThere are yet four months, and then comes the harvest”? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. For in this case the saying is true, β€œOne sows and another reaps.” I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor’” (John 4:35–38).

Using the grain growing in the surrounding fields as an object lesson, Jesus impressed on the disciples the urgency of reaching the lost. There was no need to wait four months; the spiritual fields were already β€œwhite for harvest.” He was likely referring to the Samaritans who at that moment were coming toward them (v. 30). Their white clothing formed a striking contrast with the brilliant green of the ripening grain and looked like the white heads on the stalks that indicated the time for harvest.

By telling the disciples that the one β€œwho reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal,” the Lord highlighted their responsibility to participate in the harvest of souls. They would receive their β€œwages”—the rewarding joy of gathering β€œfruit” for all eternity.

You have the same responsibility as the disciples. Pray that the Lord will give you opportunities to experience the joy of gathering souls as you cooperate with His Spirit.

Ask Yourself

Part of the hindrance to our evangelistic fervor is that the Lord often uses us as one in a long line of invitation points. Though He may be drawing this very person to faith, our own encounter is subject to being met by rejection. How do you overcome the fatigue of knowing that faith can sometimes feel like failure?
