@LauraRuHK https://laura-ruggeri.medium.com/chi-ha-paura-di-zakhar-prilepin-4ddd81265631

In Mariupol, builders from Moscow are helping restore a monument to the Azovstal workers who died and went missing in the Great Patriotic War.
This was announced by the vice-governor of the Moscow region Evgeny Khromushin. Fragments of the monument destroyed by the Ukrainian regime have been lifted out of the mud and are being cleaned now.

“They are waiting for something grand”: Reznikov admitted that the West’s expectations from the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are too high
Excessive expectations from the Ukrainian army could lead to "emotional disappointment," warned Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov.
The preparations for the offensive left Ukrainian officials wondering "what outcome would be enough to impress Washington."
It appears that if Kiev fails, it will lose international military assistance or face pressure to negotiate.

In his first message from hospital, Zakhar Prilepin explains what happened and clarifies some inconsistencies in the media accounts that appeared immediately after the explosion. "Greetings to all the family.
My brother-in-law who was my guardian angel for 8 years is dead. Sasha "Evil" Shubin. Fearless soldier, friend and brother.
I've just been given a phone number. There has been some confusion in the media reports. Sasha was not driving, he was in the passenger seat. I was driving. The explosion happened under his wheel.
I lost consciousness for about three minutes, woke up and crawled to the broken windshield. The villagers who ran up helped me out. Both my legs were broken (one open fracture) and there were other injuries
"Lenta.Ru wrote that I was not conscious of what was happening. I did not see them there. In fact, I asked them to fetch me the phone from the car, but they immediately gave me all the orders, because everything was clear as soon as I woke up. Then a neighbour gave me an anaesthetic.
Thanks to Gleb Sergeyevich Nikitin for sending a helicopter straight away. It would have taken three hours from there to the city and I'm not really sure I would have made it. The helicopter flew here in 16 minutes.
I was told there were two mines. But this guy got scared and ran away right after the first one exploded. If he'd detonated the second one, everyone would have died.
They caught him.
I actually dropped my daughter off five minutes before the explosion.
Sharii got it all wrong in his video. He shows pictures of houses not from my village. You could have buried ten mines in that place at night: there are no windows over there.
Thanks to everyone who prayed, because it was impossible to survive such an explosion.
Thanks to Prigozhin, Medvedev, Zakharova, Simonyan, Mironov, Boyakov, all the soldiers and officers of Oplot (Prilepin's Battalion), the brothers in the military for immediately responding. They brought me these very prints, I haven't seen any others yet.
Thanks to the whole family, I can hear and feel everything.
Thank you Sanechka, he saved my life several times during these 8 years.
I don't know any words to say to you, Sanja, right now.
Sanya and I were just starting to build a chapel in our village.
I'll finish it. It will be in honor of St. Alexander.
I'm telling the demons, you're not scaring anybody.
There is a God.
We will win." @LauraRuHK

Statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with the terrorist act against the writer Z.Prilepin, organised by the Ukrainian security services
https://mid.ru/ru/foreign_policy/news/1867854/ On May 6 as a result of a car bombing in the Nizhny Novgorod region a veteran of combat operations in LNR Alexander Shubin was killed, a Russian writer, publicist and civic activist E.N. Prilepin (Zakhar Prilepin) was seriously injured.
Russian law enforcement authorities are investigating all the details of the incident. However, it is already obvious from the materials obtained by the Russian Interior Ministry and the Investigative Committee that this is yet another terrorist act organized and carried out by the Kiev regime, with Western supervisors behind it.
The attack on Prilepin is another manifestation of the systematic approach to the elimination of ideological opponents, which, thanks to the efforts of Washington, has been actively imposed in Ukraine since 2014 and has become a basic reflex of the Kiev regime.
Today, journalists, writers and public figures are being hunted down. In August 2022, saboteurs of the Kiev regime killed Russian journalist D.A. Dugina with a car bomb. In March 2023, attempts were made on the life of K.V. Malofeev, the founder of Tsargrad TV channel. An improvised explosive device also served as the murder weapon for military correspondent M.Y. Fomin (Vladlen Tatarsky).
❗️ Responsibility for this and other terrorist acts lies not only with the Ukrainian authorities, but also with their Western patrons, primarily the United States, whose efforts since the coup d'état in February 2014 have painstakingly nurtured an anti-Russian project in Ukraine based on neo-Nazism.
The lack of condemnation by Washington of yet another terrorist attack against a Russian journalist and public figure is self-defeating for the American authorities.
The silence of the relevant international organizations is unacceptable.
We express our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We wish Prilepin a speedy recovery.

@LauraRuHK

🌏 Whilst the structural shift to a multipolar world is now well understood in geo-political terms, its other dimensions are little noticed.
The media focus is so much centred on the military situation in Ukraine that it is easily overlooked that President Putin has also been fighting a financial war – a war on liberal economic theory; and a diplomatic war for the support of the non-West and from key strategic allies, China and India.

The EU Commission has proposed sanctions on Chinese companies it accuses, without any evidence, of "supporting Russia’s war machine". This development is likely to increase tensions with Beijing.
Seven Chinese businesses accused of selling equipment that could be used in weapons have been listed in a new package of sanctions to be discussed by EU member states this week. The sanctions list needs unanimous approval from the 27 member states before it can be enforced.
Two mainland Chinese companies on the list, 3HC Semiconductors and King-Pai Technology, have already been placed under sanctions by the US. Two companies in Hong Kong that are on the EU list are already on the US Treasury list: Sinno Electronics and Sigma Technology.
Brussels is also proposing sanctions on some Iranian companies accused of being involved in the manufacture and supply of drones to Russia.
The EU proposal includes measures that would allow the EU to restrict sales of certain products to third countries if diplomatic pressure did not change their behaviour.
There are also powers to ban oil tankers that conceal their location without good cause from EU ports, as the EU commission suspect they might be have been circumventing an embargo on Russian seaborne oil imports by pretending their loads are from elsewhere.
The commission has also proposed widening the range of banned exports to Russia.
It is also loosening restrictions on asset transfers to sanctions-hit entities to allow western companies in joint ventures with them to sell up. (Source: FT) @LauraRuHK

What can China do against NATO’s foray into Asia?
The Western military bloc is reportedly opening its first office in Japan as the US pushes ‘bloc confrontation’ politics into the region
By Timur Fomenko, a political analyst
Japan is reportedly planning to open a NATO liaison office in Tokyo. The office will be the first of its kind in Asia, and is designated to “coordinate” with the alliance on security matters, and on the issue of China.
It is no secret that the US seeks to expand and institutionalize the military alliance into Asia and place its footprint on a global scale, a notion that has been encouraged by the conflict in Ukraine, and called for by many senior Western figures. This shows that the organization has long discarded its original purpose, and has become a tool of hegemony and domination, far from the so-called ‘defensive’ alliance that it once claimed to be, over one specific geographic area of the globe.
The administration of US President Joe Biden is arguably the most militarily aggressive US presidency in decades, even more so than the George W. Bush presidency given the circumstances. Biden has ramped up tensions with larger powers, as opposed to merely conducting smaller regime change operations after the horrors of 9/11. In doing so, Biden has aggressively sought to expand alliances such as NATO, creating new mechanisms such as AUKUS, brought Europe to the brink of war with Russia, and is going to place new nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula. While the previous president, Donald Trump, sought to downsize NATO and make it more financially self-reliant, the Biden administration is unapologetically attempting to ‘globalize’ it.
NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, was once designed as a mechanism for collective regional self-defence amongst a fragile post-World War II Western Europe, which was equal in power to the Warsaw Pact. Following the end of the Cold War, after the US became the undisputed hegemon, NATO was transformed from a mere balance-of-power-focused military alliance into a tool for enforcing American interests and security objectives. In doing so, the US sought to transition the alliance into a ‘permanent order of things’ and betrayed promises to post-Soviet Russia that it would not expand it eastwards.
But now, as the US increasingly sees China as its largest adversary, it wants to ‘globalize’ NATO into Asia and interlock it with existing US alliances in the region, including Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Australia. Traditionally, the US has only ever pursued these alliances on a ‘bilateral scale’, this has typically been more manageable to US interests as Asian nations do not operate on the same universality as Western European countries, and are more fraught with nationalist conflict. For example, South Korea has little political space to cooperate with Japan. Although President Yoon Suk-yeol is attempting to do so, his ratings are sliding thanks to his perceived capitulation to Tokyo.
Despite this, the US wants to make these alliances multilateral. Even if it cannot officially expand NATO, it believes that its clout can still be increased if intelligence, armaments, and other forms of cooperation are strengthened. Hence, while not all of NATO can come running to Taiwan’s help if a conflict with mainland China breaks out, the US likely aims to create a ‘coalition’ which will cooperate in the same way as the one supporting Ukraine, i.e., providing a never-ending supply of arms, intelligence, logistics, operational support, and so on. In other words, NATO would wage war against China by proxy in the same way it has against Russia in Ukraine, whether the US is directly involved or not. This of course severely raises the military stakes of the region. (1/2)
(2/2) So what can China do to respond to this attempt at ‘alliance encirclement’ against it? First, it can strengthen its ties with Russia and aim to create a deeper balance of power in the Asia-Pacific. Secondly, it can revitalize old alliances and strengthen its ties with North Korea as a military partner. After all, the DPRK is still obligated by the 1961 treaty of mutual assistance to come to China’s aid in a war and can be used to contain Japan and South Korea. Thirdly, it can look to build new military partnerships with regional countries who feel similarly threatened by US expansionism; for example, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. While the rest of ASEAN are likely to stay neutral, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam (excluding the US-aligned Philippines), China should work to improve its relationships with these countries in order to prevent the US from trying to ‘force’ them to choose.
The expansion of NATO influence into Asia ultimately poses a threat to the stability, security, and certainty of an entire region. Driven by the US, it strives to import ‘bloc confrontation’ politics into the region and upend its integration so that it might be able to secure US hegemony over it. China faces the challenge of balancing its security interests amidst this turmoil, while also ensuring that a conflict does not break out. Either way, the entire region is locked in an increasingly tense arms race amidst the foreign policy of the Biden administration, which can only be described as hegemonic, expansionist, and aggressive.
