MOLDOVA - Nothing says "EU candidate" like... a ban on Russian media! The chief of the Moldovan Security and Intelligence Service, Alexandru Musteata, has ordered denial of access to the websites of TASS and some other leading Russian news media, according to a statement from the service.

The ban will also affect the websites of Lenta.ru, Interfax, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Izvestia, Komsomolskaya Pravda, aif.ru, Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Regnum and Riafan news agencies, Sputnik radio, along with some Moldovan websites. In the UK a Conservative MP has been sacked from his government post after calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Paul Bristow has been asked to leave his position as a parliamentary private secretary (PPS) after writing to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to urge a "permanent" break in fighting between Israel and Hamas.

He was fired for comments that are "not consistent with the principles of collective responsibility," a Number 10 spokesperson said.

Speaking later to Sky News, the Peterborough MP said: "I understand the PM's decision. And it is with regret I leave a job I enjoyed. I can now talk openly about an issue so many of my constituents care deeply about. I believe I can do this better from the backbenches rather than as part of the government payroll."

His letter to Sunak said: "Thousands have been killed and more than one million now displaced. It is difficult to understand how this makes Israel more secure or indeed makes anything better."

He welcomed calls from Mr Sunak last week for "specific pauses" in the fighting but added: "A permanent ceasefire would save lives and allow for a continued column of humanitarian aid [to] reach the people who need it the most.

"Access to water, electricity and fuel is vital for the Palestinian people. My constituents and I would be grateful for your comments on the actions our government is taking to ensure that people in Gaza do not face collective punishment for the crimes of Hamas." @LauraRuHK

💢 Looking back at the horrors inflicted by Nazi Germany, a fascinating, disturbing question is: why and how could so many people at that time be indifferent to the crimes? After the defeat of the Nazi fascist regime, people adamantly lamented “never again” would such horror be permitted.

Part of the lament was due to a sense of collective guilt that more wasn’t done at the time to stop the systematic mass killings and brutality.

Well, up to a point, it is happening again in Gaza where 2.3 million have been subjected to three weeks of constant, indiscriminate bombardment amid a total blockade of water, food and other basic human necessities.

‼️GENETIC WEAPONS - Some countries have “armed” themselves with deadly weapons targeting human genes, China’s top spy agency alleged on Monday – the first time a Chinese state body has mentioned such a threat publicly.

In a post on its official WeChat account, the Ministry of State Security said some nations had targeted the Chinese population for “ulterior motives”.

What the Chinese ministry is alleging countries have made is not a biological agent engineered for the entire world but rather the creation of a targeted threat, or genetic weapons.

Genetic weapons, also known as ethnic bio-weapons, are genetically engineered biological weapons that are capable of targeting members of a specific race or ethnicity.

While up to 99.9 per cent of human DNA is shared between all individuals on earth, there are key genetic differences that distinguish those of a certain ethnicity or race, the Chinese ministry said. These differences can be utilised to “kill targets of a predetermined race”.
Concerns over the potential threat of genetic bioweapons are not new. In 1999, a report by the British Medical Association warned that the creation of such weapons would be feasible in the near future.

A report by the James Martin Centre for Nonproliferation Studies in 2021 stated that a weapon system designed to “optimise effect on particular groups based on genetic profiling” was possible, but faced several technical challenges. Advancements in DNA sequencing, artificial intelligence and collection of genetic data sets could “enable identification of increasingly precise targets for a genetic weapon system”.
