UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg briefed today the UN Security Council. He highlighted what has been achieved in the three and a half months of the truce while he also pointed to the obstacles faced in implementation and efforts to overcome them. Mr. Grundberg outlined to the Council a way forward that includes extending, consolidating, and expanding the truce so that the benefits to Yemen’s population increase and progress is made toward a political settlement. The Supervisory Committee on detainees exchange concluded its 6th meeting co-chaired by the Special Envoy's office and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). UN Envoy Hans Grundberg announces that the parties agreed to extend the truce in #Yemen under the same terms for an additional 2 months. This extension includes a commitment to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce agreement as soon as possible.

Clarification:
In follow-up to the press release regarding the Supervisory Committee on the Implementation of the Detainees’ exchange Agreement concluding its sixth meeting on 31 July 2022 in Amman, Jordan:
The Office of the Special Envoy would like to clarify that during the meeting, a proposal was put forward to form a committee that brings together both parties under a joint framework to support the process of verifying the identities of the names of detainees included in their respective lists, provided that agreement is reached regarding the details following consultation with relevant authorities.
The Office of the Special Envoy would also like to urge the parties to continue the process of exchanging names to ensure a swift release of all detainees according to what was agreed upon in March 2022.

يوّد مكتب المبعوث الخاص إلى اليمن أن يوضح أنه خلال الاجتماع تمّ طرح مقترح لتشكيل لجنة تضم الطرفين في إطار مشترك بينهما لدعم عملية التحقق من هوية أسماء المحتجزين المدرجة في القوائم على أن يتم التوافق على التفاصيل بعد التشاور مع الجهات المعنيّة.
ويحثّ مكتب المبعوث الخاص إلى اليمن الأطرف بالاستمرار في عملية تبادل الكشوفات لضمان الاسراع في اطلاق سراح جميع المحتجزين وفق ما تم الاتفاق عليه في شهر مارس/آذار ٢٠٢٢.

UN Special Envoy’s military advisor Brigadier General Hayward has concluded his visit to #Yemen. Constructive discussions were held with representatives from the Military Coordination Committee and other security representatives in #Aden, #Taiz including #Hawban and #Sanaa.

The visit gave the military advisor a better understanding of the situation onthe ground and to prepare for the upcoming fourth meeting of the Military Coordination Committee in #Amman.
