πΉ Verse 94 β Surah An-Nisa | Wilayah and Mahdavi Explanation
π The Noble Verse
βO you who believe! When you go forth [to fight] in the cause of Allah, investigate; and do not say to one who offers you peace, βYou are not a believer,β seeking the goods of worldly life. For with Allah are many spoils. You [yourselves] were like that before; then Allah conferred His favor upon you, so investigate. Indeed, Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.β (An-Nisa 4:94)
βοΈ Wilayah Narration
β Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Qummi (r.a.) π¬ This verse was revealed when the Prophet (PBUH) sent Usama ibn Zayd after the conquest of Khaybar with an army to invite the Jews of Fadak to Islam. A man named Mirdas ibn Nuhayk Fadaki, seeing the army, took his family and wealth and fled to the mountains. Then he came forward and declared the Shahadah, but Usama killed him, claiming he only said it to save his life. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) asked him, βDid you open his heart? Why didnβt you accept his word?β Usama swore never again to kill anyone who declared the Shahadah β and under this pretext, he later refused to support Amir al-Muβminin (A) in battle. π Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt v.3 | Bihar al-Anwar | al-Qummi
β Imam al-Sadiq (A) π¬ The Imam said: This verse teaches that if someone declares Islam or greets you with Salam (a sign of faith), you must not say, βYou are not a believer.β π Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt v.3 | al-Burhan
π Wilayah Insight
πΉ This verse sets an important behavioral standard in the culture of Wilayah: The criterion for judging is outward declaration of faith, unless there is clear evidence of open hypocrisy. πΉ Usamaβs story is a historical example of how pretexts were used to shirk supporting the rightful Imam. Under cover of a prior vow, he abandoned the duty of obedience to Ali (A). πΉ In the school of Ahl al-Bayt, the right of Wilayah and obedience to the infallible Imam overrides any excuse or worldly gain.
β¨ Mahdavi Insight
πΈ In the time of Ghaybah (Occultation), the same principle remains: recognizing the true βbearer of peaceβ from false claimants demands insight and vigilance. πΈ Many today speak of Islam and peace, yet in truth seek worldly spoils and stand in line with the enemies of the Imam al-Mahdi (AJ). πΈ The loyal companions of the Mahdi (AJ) live by βfatabayyanuβ β they investigate, discern, and never naively accept deceptive slogans.
β Wilayah and Mahdavi Conclusion
βοΈ Obedience to the Wali of Allah and careful discernment between friend and foe are conditions for safeguarding true faith.
βοΈ Gullible trust in mere slogans without investigation opens the door to hypocrisy within the ranks of believers.
βοΈ This verse warns that the test of true faith and Wilayah remains in every age: slogans and greetings do not suffice β vigilance, inquiry, and loyalty to Wilayah are always essential.
