🎙 Remarks by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with university graduates joining the Russian diplomatic service (Moscow, October 20, 2026)
💬 At this stage, the Russian MFA and our foreign policy as a whole, as defined by President Vladimir Putin, face very complex tasks.
These are challenging times. You will have to immerse yourselves in multilayered, multifaceted and exceptionally fast-moving processes straight away, with no warm-up period.
Now that the world has taken a different direction, the course of history is fundamentally reshaping economics, politics and global finance.
☝️ The West will never again be the dominant player calling the tune.
We see a circle of like-minded partners taking shape among the countries of the Global South. The constructive philosophy we champion is shared by such associations as the #SCO, #BRICS, #CIS, #CSTO and #EAEU, and, of course, the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
We all share a commitment to maximising the benefits of joint development. Our partnerships are not aimed against anyone. We stand for equal dialogue and frank discussions to find a balance of interests, as that balance is what matters most.
💬 President Vladimir Putin said the following at Valdai – a very important quote:
This reflects the initiative announced several years ago by President Vladimir Putin, which we have been systematically advancing in various formats: the Greater Eurasian Partnership (#GEP) on our vast, resource-rich and unique continent. Bringing together these efforts to align the work programmes of Eurasia’s subregional organisations is a task of paramount importance.
The current situation confirms that one of the West’s principal objectives remains inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia. If not on the battlefield, as they had hoped and boasted of planning – something they could never have achieved – then perhaps by weakening our economic capabilities and attempting to destabilise our country.
👉 What matters most is that we have learned our lessons.

We are all responsible for our planet as a whole, but we are first and foremost responsible for our own home and its immediate surroundings.
Our home in the broader sense is Eurasia, a vast territory that is the centre and the setting for the most important processes unfolding in the world. A great deal on the international stage as a whole depends on how we develop Eurasia.

On October 23, an armed attack targeted people attending a memorial church service in the village of Hammoud, in Karak Governorate in western Jordan.

We consider attacks on religious sites and worshippers unacceptable. We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with friendly Jordan in combating terrorism and extremism in all their manifestations.
🕯 We extend our sincere condolences to the leadership and people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and to the families and loved ones of those killed. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.

🇷🇺🇫🇮🇳🇴📞 On October 27, President of Russia Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Finland Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Store at the request of the Finnish and Norwegian sides.
They exchanged views on resolving the Ukrainian crisis in light of Vladimir Putin’s talks with Special Envoy of the US President Stephen Witkoff in St Petersburg on October 21 and Alexander Stubb’s and Jonas Gahr Store’s contacts with Stephen Witkoff and Zelensky in Oslo.
The leaders welcomed the agreement to resume trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and the US in Abu Dhabi in the first half of November, focusing, in particular, on security arrangements for Russia and Ukraine following a complete cessation of hostilities.
Vladimir Putin assessed the current situation in the conflict zone in Ukraine and recalled the conflict’s root causes.
☝️ He stressed that a just and lasting peace can only be achieved if the Russian Federation’s legitimate interests are fully and unconditionally taken into account. He also drew attention to the confrontational policies of EU and NATO countries, which are prolonging the hostilities.
The sides also addressed security and stability in the Baltic Sea region and Northern Europe. In this context, the President of Finland and the Prime Minister of Norway reaffirmed the importance of respecting international maritime law and the principle of freedom of navigation.
Russia's President provided an update on the launch of a US-mediated humanitarian operation near the Russian town of Alyoshki and the introduction of a temporary ceasefire in the Kherson sector for this purpose.
The leaders of the three countries agreed to maintain direct telephone contacts.

EAEU ministers approbated common gas market development plan through 2030 and discussed shaping common oil, petroleum products and electricity markets
Arzybek Kozhoshev, Minister in charge of Energy and Infrastructure of the Eurasian Economic Commission, chaired a meeting of the Council of Heads of Authorized Energy Bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union Member States to discuss key issues in establishing common energy markets.
The meeting brought together the heads of energy ministries and relevant agencies from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and
Russia.
The Council approbated the plan for developing the common gas market through 2030. The document will be submitted to the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council for approval.
Participants also considered the Member States’ proposals on the principles for amending the Union’s legal framework in line with the SEEC’s 2024 Decision on establishing the Eurasian Economic Union’s common gas market.
Particular attention was paid to progress in establishing common markets for oil and petroleum products.
“The Commission is working closely with EAEU countries to advance this agenda. The key tasks at this stage are to put the necessary legal framework in place and develop stable, mutually beneficial arrangements for these markets, taking account of current conditions and the Member States’ commitments,” Arzybek Kozhoshev reported.
The EEC Minister reported that a draft standard agreement for accession to electricity trading on the common electricity market had been completed and submitted to the Union’s governing bodies for consideration.
