* 🔬 MIT researchers developed a new catheter with nanosensors to detect bladder cancer recurrence much earlier. This technology is nearly 50,000 times more sensitive than traditional urinalysis and creates "chemical images" to pinpoint tumor locations.
* 🔵 The new method uses carbon nanotubes coated with "synthetic antibodies" to detect a protein called NMP-22, a biomarker for bladder cancer. This allows for detection directly within the bladder lining, where the protein is concentrated, rather than in diluted urine samples.
* 💡 This nanosensor technology could revolutionize bladder cancer monitoring, potentially detecting tumors as small as 16 square millimeters earlier than current methods like cystoscopy. The goal is a faster, less invasive, and more cost-effective screening process usable in doctor's offices.
