🔬 A new study found that at least 12 of 169 detected chemicals in hair extensions are linked to cancer, birth defects, and reproductive issues. All but two tested products contained hazardous chemicals.
💨 Nearly 10% of hair extensions analyzed contained organotin compounds, which are synthetic chemicals associated with endocrine disruption. Some samples exceeded European Union limits.
⚠️ Researchers identified high levels of chlorine in synthetic hair samples. Exposure to chlorine can cause lung irritation and impaired function.
🌱 While biobased hair products might seem safer, the study discovered unclassified complex chemicals in some, suggesting "biobased" doesn't automatically mean safe.

✨ A new study found that dozens of hair extensions, including synthetic and natural braids, may contain hazardous chemicals.
🔬 Out of 169 chemicals detected, at least 12 are linked to cancer, birth defects, and reproductive issues, and are listed on California's Proposition 65 hazardous chemicals list.
⚠️ Nearly 10% of the 43 tested hair extensions contained organotin compounds, synthetic chemicals associated with endocrine disruption, with some exceeding European Union limits.
📈 Further research is needed for government agencies to determine if increased regulation is required, as the study authors note combined exposure from repeated use can add up.
