While most OB/GYNs haven't moved, some say the legal risks have changed how they practice. ⚖️👩‍⚕️🩺

🔬 Abortion restrictions disproportionately impact pregnancies conceived via fertility treatment, according to new research from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

🤰 States with Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers (TRAP laws) show worse maternal health outcomes for fertility patients compared to states without such laws.

📊 A study of over 400,000 births from 2012-2021 found increased serious maternal health complications, including blood transfusions, ICU admissions, and hysterectomies, in states with TRAP laws.

US state-level abortion bans are associated with a reduction in evidence-based medical care for miscarriage management. This means more women were forced to carry pregnancies that weren’t viable, potentially putting their health and fertility at risk and prolonging…
⚖️ Study from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) links state abortion bans to reduced medical care for miscarriages. Researchers found a shift away from effective medication management towards "expectant management" (waiting for it to happen naturally).

📈 Between 2018-2024, in states with abortion bans, researchers observed a 2.8% increase in expectant management and a 2.2% decrease in medication management for miscarriages in commercially insured individuals.

💊 Among those receiving medication for miscarriage, abortion ban states saw a 13.8% increase in using misoprostol alone, a less effective regimen compared to the combination of mifepristone and misoprostol.

⚠️ OHSU warns these findings, based on commercially insured patients, may underestimate the negative impact on those with Medicaid, who generally have less access to care.

Having health insurance in America doesn't mean you can actually use it. Researchers posing as patients called 5,822 in-network mental health providers: most calls hit voicemails, over half the listings were wrong, and just 24% of real calls ended with an…
🩺 Study found that even with commercial insurance, getting a mental health appointment is difficult for Americans. Researchers acted as "secret shoppers" and called 5,822 providers, only securing an appointment 24% of the time.

📞 Of the calls where a person was reached (2,252 calls), 56% showed inaccurate provider directory information. An additional 22% of calls failed to result in an appointment due to capacity issues like providers not accepting new patients.

⏳ Callers faced an average wait time of 20.5 days for care, with longer waits for psychiatry compared to psychology.
