Motivation acts as a 📷 camera lens that shapes how memories form 🧠.Study proposes that distinct chemical signals in the brain create specific motivational “moods” that determine whether we remember the big picture or focused details. Read Full Article #MotivationLens…
🧠 New research redefines motivation not as a volume knob for effort, but as a camera lens influencing how the brain records events. Distinct brain chemical signals create specific motivational "moods" that dictate whether we remember the big picture or focused details.

💡 The study, published in the Annual Review of Psychology, proposes two primary motivational moods: "interrogative" (driven by curiosity, adaptiveness, creating flexible relational memories) and "imperative" (driven by urgency, deadlines, threats, creating highly detailed but narrow unitized memories).

🔬 Developed by Assistant Professor Jia-Hou Poh (National University of Singapore) and Professor R. Alison Adcock (Duke University), this theoretical framework highlights the roles of the dopaminergic (VTA) and noradrenergic (LC) systems in shaping memory formation.

Meet Orexin, The Brain Chemical Behind Staying Motivated. Scientists have identified neurons that produce the chemical orexin as playing an important role in food-reward motivation in rats. Read Full Article #Orexin #MotivationScience #NeuroscienceResearch
🧠 Researchers at Nagoya University have identified orexin-producing neurons in rats' brains that play a key role in food-reward motivation. These neurons, located in the hypothalamus, influence how much effort an animal is willing to exert for a reward.

💡 Activating these orexin neurons made rats work harder for food, while inhibiting them led to quicker abandonment of the effort. Activity increased before a reward and decreased afterward, with sustained high activity when a reward was expected but absent.

📈 The study, published in PNAS, suggests orexin activity could serve as a marker for the effort involved in pursuing expected rewards and is crucial for linking expectations with motivated behavior.

🔬 Future research will explore how these orexin neurons connect with other brain circuits to understand the natural triggers for motivated actions, with potential implications for treating conditions linked to disrupted motivation, like depression and addiction.
