Early physical attractiveness predicts a more socially effective personality in adulthood. Early physical appearance may serve as a slight but consistent predictor of how well a person navigates social situations later in life. Read Full Article Here are…
✨ A new study in Personality and Individual Differences found a link between childhood physical attractiveness and a more socially effective personality in adulthood.

✨ Researchers analyzed data from over 6,000 participants in the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study and found that teenage attractiveness correlated with higher openness and extraversion in adulthood, and more importantly, with a stronger "general factor of personality" (overall social effectiveness).

✨ A separate analysis of the National Child Development Study in Great Britain involving nearly 7,000 participants showed that childhood attractiveness positively correlated with intellect, conscientiousness, agreeableness, and the general factor of personality in middle age.

✨ The study author Curtis S. Dunkel stated, "More physically attractive children have a slight tendency to have a more socially effective personality in middle adulthood." The effect size is small, meaning attractiveness is only a slight predictor of adult social effectiveness.

* 🧐 **Study Reveals Personality Link to Fewer Children:** Individuals with high "Openness to Experience" (imaginative, intellectually curious) tend to have fewer children due to delayed parenthood, shorter relationships, and fewer positive motivations.

* 🧑‍🔬 **Research by Milić & Međedović:** Conducted by Aleksandra Milić (University of Pavia) and Janko Međedović (Institute of Criminological and Sociological Research), the study surveyed 1,024 individuals, average age 32.3, with an even gender split.

* 💡 **Key Explanations for Trend:** Higher Openness was associated with waiting longer for the first child, shorter romantic relationships, and fewer positive reasons for wanting children, all contributing to smaller family sizes.

Study provides evidence that individuals with exceptionally trusting and kind personalities do not actively seek out manipulative or cruel partners. Instead, they simply tend to be less likely to reject these types of people compared to the average person.…
✨ Exceptionally trusting individuals don't actively seek manipulative partners, but are less likely to reject them than the average person. This suggests a strong tendency to see the good in others can reduce selectivity in romance.

🤔 A 2023 speed-dating study with 128 participants analyzed 1,429 dates to explore the interaction between "dark triad" (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, sadism) and "light triad" (humanism, faith in humanity, Kantianism) personality traits.

📉 Machiavellianism and sadism generally reduced dating success, leading to fewer selections. Narcissism and psychopathy did not show this negative effect.

💖 Individuals with "light" personalities showed less rejection of partners with Machiavellian or sadistic traits, but no increased attraction was found. The dynamic is not reciprocal.

People with “dark” personality traits see the world as fundamentally meaningless. In other words, these individuals tended to view the world as less pleasurable, less stable, less regenerative, and less meaningful. Read Full Article #DarkTraits #Meaninglessness…
🌍 Studies of German-speaking adults found individuals with a stronger "Dark Core" of personality hold more pessimistic views of the world, seeing it as less pleasant, stable, regenerative, and meaningful.

🧠 The "Dark Core" concept unites personality traits like narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy, suggesting a shared tendency to prioritize self-benefit even at the cost of harm to others.

📊 Four studies, involving 400-640 German adults each, explored this link. Researchers found those high in the Dark Core viewed the world as less safe and enticing, seeing it as less abundant, beautiful, or interesting.

✨ Interestingly, the Dark Core showed little connection to beliefs about the universe having purpose, though individuals high in dark traits were slightly more likely to believe in a higher power's active involvement in their lives, possibly linked to grandiose self-views.

Even highly antagonistic people find immoral peers physically unattractive, even though they tend to judge immoral people more leniently than the average person. Antagonistic people recognize moral shortcomings but may evaluate bad behavior less harshly to…
⭐ People with antagonistic personalities (manipulative, callous) judge immoral individuals more leniently, but still find them less physically attractive, suggesting they recognize moral failings but soften judgments to protect their self-image.

⭐ Research with 710 undergraduate students showed that while everyone rated a moral politician more favorably than an immoral one, antagonistic participants judged the immoral politician less harshly on likability and morality, but not on physical attractiveness.

⭐ The findings indicate that antagonistic individuals don't lack moral understanding but may use a "self-protective psychological shield" to downplay bad behavior in others, while still reacting negatively to physical attractiveness, acting as a "gut-level warning system."

Authoritarianism acts as a psychological bridge for dark personalities, study finds. These harsh personality characteristics rely on a strict adherence to authority and tradition to justify punishing others, rather than operating through a direct desire for…
* A recent study in Brazil found that individuals with antagonistic personality traits (like narcissism, psychopathy, and sadism, termed the "dark factor") may use rigid political beliefs, specifically right-wing authoritarianism, to manage their self-control and justify punishing others.

* Researchers found that right-wing authoritarianism acted as a bridge connecting antagonistic personality traits to self-control. However, the desire for social hierarchy (social dominance orientation) did not show this mediating effect.

* The study, involving 498 Brazilian adults, also indicated that difficulties in emotion regulation and self-control are distinct and independent processes, not necessarily driven by authoritarian or socially dominant worldviews.

✨ New research in Collabra: Psychology reveals how individuals with antisocial traits (Dark Tetrad: Machiavellianism, narcissism, psychopathy, sadism) alter self-presentation under pressure.

✨ Participants with high narcissism increased their scores when trying to impress in a simulated job application, highlighting traits like self-confidence and assertiveness.

✨ Psychopathy and sadism scores decreased when participants tried to "fake good," suggesting these traits are perceived as socially undesirable and are hidden. Machiavellianism scores remained stable.

✨ The study, authored by Bojana M. Dinić and Irena Boskovic, involved 104 participants from Serbia and used questionnaires measuring Dark Tetrad traits, impression management, and denial of health symptoms.

🧬 The largest study to date has identified over 1,000 genetic variants linked to the Big Five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness).

🧬 This research, involving 1.14 million people and published in Nature, found that genetics explains a modest portion (7.4-10.6%) of personality differences between individuals, and less than 4% of variation can be predicted from genetic data alone.

🧬 While genetics influences personality predispositions, environmental factors play a substantial role, explaining the majority of individual differences. The study found genetic effects on personality within families mirrored those between unrelated people.

🧬 The genetic patterns for "agreeableness" showed variation across different groups, potentially due to cultural differences in how the trait is expressed or measured.

✨ A massive study involving 1.14 million people from 13 countries has identified 1,260 genetic markers linked to the "Big Five" personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience), with 824 markers identified for the first time.

🧠 These genetic markers are strongly associated with genes active in the prefrontal cortex, the brain region often called the "personality centre," which is crucial for emotional regulation and decision-making.

❤️ The study found that genetics explains 5-16% of personality variation and revealed genetic links between personality traits and health outcomes, such as extraversion increasing COVID infection risk and conscientiousness reducing body-mass index.
