Traveling in space literally moves the brain around in the skull, according to before-and-after MRI scans of astronauts, with areas involved in movement and sensation showed the largest shifts, although most of the deformation reversed within 6 months Read…
🚀 New study reveals the brain shifts upward and backward, deforming inside the skull after spaceflight.

⬆️ The longer astronauts spend in space, the greater these shifts become. For those on the International Space Station for ~1 year, some upper brain areas moved over 2mm.

⚖️ Most shifts gradually return to normal within six months of returning to Earth, though backward shifts show less recovery.

Scientists Capture the Clearest View Yet of a Star Collapsing Into a Black Hole: an event astronomers have anticipated for decades, but have had limited evidence for. The star appears to have undergone direct collapse, turning into a black hole without first exploding and becoming a supernova.

New Research on Muscle Loss Suggests Humans Will Really Suffer on Mars. Researchers exposed mice aboard the ISS to various levels of artificial gravity, they found that 0.67 g (67% of Earth’s gravity) is a key threshold—any gravity level lower than this caused their muscles to deteriorate.

Atmosphere of Saturn-sized planet with Earth-like temperature contains methane: « The new details about the composition of the planet’s atmosphere will inform models of planetary formation and evolution and could improve astronomer’s understanding of how Earth’s…
⭐ A Saturn-sized exoplanet, TOI-199b, has been found to have an atmosphere rich in methane by NASA's James Webb Space Telescope. This planet has Earth-like temperatures, about 175°F.

⭐ This is the first detailed atmospheric analysis of a temperate, giant exoplanet, offering insights into planetary formation and evolution, and potentially Earth's atmosphere.

⭐ The study, published May 20 in The Astronomical Journal, used transmission spectroscopy to analyze starlight passing through TOI-199b's atmosphere. Methane was detected, confirming previous models. Ammonia and carbon dioxide were also hinted at.

Mercury may have contracted up to 30% more over its history than previous estimates suggested Read Full Article #Mercury #PlanetaryFormation #SpaceScience
🪐 A new study suggests Mercury has shrunk 10% to 30% more than previously estimated, potentially losing up to 14.5 miles (23 km) in diameter. This is because impact crater debris obscures the planet's shrinking signs.

💧 Scientists used maps of geologic evidence and surface roughness to show that rougher areas on Mercury have fewer visible "wrinkles," indicating hidden contraction.

🚀 This updated estimate could bring our understanding of Mercury's cooling and shrinkage in line with physical predictions. Future data from the BepiColombo mission, starting November 2026, may reveal even more detailed surface features.
