Scientists tame seizures and heal injured brains with gut chemical. The treatment didn’t just dampen the frequency and intensity of the seizures, it physically supported how an injured brain could heal itself. Read Full Article #BrainHealth #SeizureTreatment…
🧠 A natural gut chemical, sodium butyrate, is showing promise in healing injured brains after traumatic brain injury (TBI), making seizures rarer and harder to trigger.

🔬 Researchers at Texas A&M University, led by Dr. Samba Reddy, found this therapy reduces brain inflammation, improves memory, protects brain cells, and helps injured brains heal.

📅 Published in Experimental Neurology, the study suggests a new approach to prevent post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) by intervening early, rather than managing seizures after they occur.

E-scooters far more dangerous than motorbikes or bicycles. Study of accidents in England and Wales shows e-scooter riders 3x more likely to suffer traumatic brain injury than bikers. They also sustained more internal organ and blood vessel damage than did…
⛑️ Electric scooter riders are 3x more likely to suffer traumatic brain injuries and blood vessel damage compared to motorcyclists, and 1.5x more likely to injure internal organs, according to a 2020-2022 analysis of accidents in England and Wales.

👧 Women are at higher risk, experiencing about a third more collisions than men and being twice as likely to report severe injuries, often due to handlebar height being set for men. Children under 18 also accounted for 16% of e-scooter injuries.

⛑️ Less than 6% of e-scooter riders reported wearing helmets, and experts suggest mandatory safety training and helmets, along with making e-scooters more stable, could improve safety.

New research shows that irritability is strongly associated with post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms, chronic pain and difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments among military veterans with chronic mild traumatic brain injury, or concussion.…
🧠 New research from CU Anschutz shows irritability in veterans with chronic mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is strongly linked to PTSD symptoms and chronic pain.

👂 Difficulty understanding speech in noisy environments also independently contributes to irritability, suggesting sensory processing plays a role.

⚖️ A study of 124 military veterans found those with chronic mTBI reported higher irritability, PTSD symptoms, chronic pain, balance issues, and speech comprehension difficulties.

💡 Findings suggest a combination of brain function, emotional health, and sensory processing, not just psychological factors, contribute to post-concussion irritability.
