8 January 1324. Marco Polo, maybe the most legendary and representative historical figure in Venice, passes away aged 69 in his Venetian house, today Corte Milion and Malibran Theater.
I guess many of you remember landing in VeniceπŸ›¬ at Marco Polo Airport πŸ˜‰... The main symbol of Travel 🌏

#MarcoPolo was member of a Venetian merchant family, which between 1271 and 1295 decided to travel and explore the Silk Road to reach Cathay (China).
After a long and epic journey through Asia, they were received by the court of Emperor Kublai Khan, who was impressed by Marco's intelligence and humility. Marco was appointed to serve as Khan's foreign emissary, and he was sent on many diplomatic missions throughout the empire: for this reason Marco had the opportunity to travel extensively inside China and in present-day Burma, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, living in the emperor's lands for 17 years 😳 and seeing things that had previously been unknown to Europeans!!!
