🎼2 March, 1942 Lou Reed was born in New York City. "Not a great singer, not a great guitarist" but for sure one of the greatest ARTISTS of the 20th Century!
Here's a rare photo of him in Venice when he came to play at #TeatroMalibran, the ancient house of #MarcoPolo, near #Rialto bridge: it was in 2002 and half of the audience left the concert because it was too loud, cacophonic, violent and senselessπŸ™‰πŸ€―πŸ˜±... maybe some of them were unaware that he was about to play his 1975 album "Metal Machine Music" in its entirety... the album was withdrawn from the market by his record company at the time, because it was just made of "noises" and guitar distortions...
In the Chat RoomπŸ‘‡ I post 1 of my favorite #LouReed songs and 1 of my favorite #VelvetUnderground songs 🎸🎸 You can post yours! πŸ˜ƒπŸ€Ÿ

8 January 1324. Marco Polo, maybe the most legendary and representative historical figure in Venice, passes away aged 69 in his Venetian house, today Corte Milion and Malibran Theater.
I guess many of you remember landing in VeniceπŸ›¬ at Marco Polo Airport πŸ˜‰... The main symbol of Travel 🌏

#MarcoPolo was member of a Venetian merchant family, which between 1271 and 1295 decided to travel and explore the Silk Road to reach Cathay (China).
After a long and epic journey through Asia, they were received by the court of Emperor Kublai Khan, who was impressed by Marco's intelligence and humility. Marco was appointed to serve as Khan's foreign emissary, and he was sent on many diplomatic missions throughout the empire: for this reason Marco had the opportunity to travel extensively inside China and in present-day Burma, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, living in the emperor's lands for 17 years 😳 and seeing things that had previously been unknown to Europeans!!! 🎼 9 April 1948.
Happy 75th Birthday to Patty Pravo from Venice!

One of the most famous female singers in #Italy, not really a Rock one but... this lady has truly something to tell about her life!

She moved to #Rome aged 17 and she became the queen of the Piper, the most important music venue at the time.

She witnessed the entire evolution of Italian Beat into Italian Prog Rock thanks to her liasons with artists of the scene, she sang immortal Italian pop songs for 5 decades, she spent wild nights with unknown young musicians such as #PinkFloyd and #JimiHendrix in the 1960s, she ideally followed the route of πŸ‘‰ Marco Polo when she became the most famous Italian singer in Asia, performing for the King of Jordan and the Shah Of Persia in the 1970s and for Chinese Tv in 1980s-90s with audiences exceeding 1 billion... yes, quite a life ❀️‍πŸ”₯

πŸ—Ί Mappa Mundi (completed in 1459).

In this year dedicated to Marco Polo (700th anniversary from his passing away here in Venice), read this amazing BBC article on the story of Fra' Mauro, a 15th century local monk who manually designed the greatest and most accurate World Map of the Middle Age (of course Americas were still missing)...

This astonishing masterpiece was only based on travel accounts and stories he read (mainly from #MarcoPolo and #PietroQuerini) and heard (from contemporary Venetian merchants and explorers), because #FraMauro never left in his lifetime his monastery on San Michele island, Venice ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Today you can visit this wonder in the Biblioteca Marciana in #SanMarco Square.

✈️ In a few years this should be the landscape when you land in Venice.
A big green area near #MarcoPolo Airport surrounding the brand new ⚽️ and πŸ€ stadiums already under construction.
