🎼🎸πŸ”₯18 June 1967. One of the most iconic photos of the entire XX century (and not just in music I'd say) is shot at Monterey International Pop Music Festival☝️
The Who had just concluded one of their devastating shows (they used to destroy instruments at the end) when a young and at the time little known #guitarist was introduced to the audience on stage by Rolling Stone's #BrianJones: he was of course #JimiHendrix!
I'm sure he just wanted to shock the public (and somehow imitate The Who) when he set his guitar afire after playing a memorable version of "Wild Thing"... but the thing he was probably not aware of, is that this picture would become forever an immortal symbol of Rock'n'Roll ! #18June
Thank You Jimi πŸ”₯❀️

🎼September 1966, 55 years ago... every song (famous or not) has a great story behind it! There are songs, especially Rock, that soon have become legendary 🀟 That's the case of a classic rock standard, Hey Joe.
Tim Rose, American singer songwriter born Timothy Alan Patrick Rose in New York, US on 23 September 1940, moved to London, UK in the 60s and in 1966 recorded his version of Hey Joe, claiming it was a traditional folk song he heard when he was a child. #HeyJoe was in fact first recorded by Billy Roberts in 1962 for copyright reasons, he always denied it being a traditional, he wrote it instead, but still today noone knows who originally penned it: Hey Joe is classified as a Public Domain song.
The legend went on in September 1966 when a young talented #guitarist called Jimi Hendrix moved to London from the US: one night Jimi met Chas Chandler (bassist of #TheAnimals) and Linda Keith (at the time #KeithRichards girlfriend): they both had just attended a Tim Rose concert and they sang Hey Joe to Jimi Hendrix. Jimi fell in love with the song, he soon re-arranged it and at the end of 1966 it was released as his first single, which immediately peaked US and UK charts... that's why we all think Hey Joe is a song by #JimiHendrix!!!
Hey Joe is the last song played at #Woodstock festival 🎸πŸ”₯
Here's the #TimRose 1966 version, in the Chat RoomπŸ‘‡ I post #BillyRoberts and of course Hendrix ones 🀟πŸ”₯πŸ” #MusicHistory #23September

🎼55 years ago, 1966 (!!!) #FrankZappa released his first studio album, Freak Out, along with his band The Mothers Of Invention.
Rock'n'Roll music was born only few years earlier and was still evolving, pioneers like #ElvisPresley, #LittleRichard, #ChuckBerry were still hitting the charts, #Beatles and #RollingStones were at the peak of their popularity, #JimiHendrix was non yet around, Prog Rock was far from coming... how could the world be ready in 1966 for such an innovative, uncompromising music composition and approach, harsh lyrics and virulent satire!?! 😳

Freak Out, like all Zappa's works which followed, was simply out of time and would probably be far ahead even today!

🎼5 December 1932. Looks like a day of Legends πŸ”πŸ€Ÿ
Little Richard was born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon, Georgia, USA.
He was one of the first Rock'n'Roll pioneers and protagonists in middle/late 1950s... the first one according to him! πŸ˜‰
One thing is certain (and enough for me and for many!): he was crucial in discovering and promoting a young talented guitarist 🎸 who joined his band in middle 1960s, #JimiHendrix ❀️‍πŸ”₯

But let #LittleRichard himself speak his mind, life and r'n'r #MusicHistory point of view in one of the best interview "performances" ever!πŸ‘‡πŸ‘

🎼4 January 1942. Happy 80th birthday πŸ₯³πŸΎ to John McLaughlin, born in Doncaster, England. He is considered by many prominent guitarists... the best #guitarist 🎸alive, having pioneered Jazz Fusion in early 1970s: his music combines elements of jazz with rock, world music, Indian classical music, Western classical music, flamenco, and blues πŸ˜³πŸ‘

#JohnMcLaughlin albums and guest appearances during his 6 decades career are literally uncountable, having collaborated and played with the likes of #MilesDavis, #TonyWilliams, #JimiHendrix, #JeffBeck, #AlDiMeola, #JoniMitchell, #CarlosSantana, to name a few...
McLaughlin has been member and leader of seminal The Mahavishnu Orchestra, one of the earliest jazz fusion bands ever and Shakty in the 70s.

🎼12 April 1954. Happy Birthday πŸ₯³πŸΎ to Hard Rock #guitarist and #vocalist Pat Travers, born Patrick Henry Travers in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As happened to many of his generation he saw #JimiHendrix in concert when he was 12 and... decided what to do in his life! πŸŽΈπŸ€ŸπŸ˜ƒ

Happy 75th Birthday to Patty Pravo from Venice!

One of the most famous female singers in #Italy, not really a Rock one but... this lady has truly something to tell about her life!

She moved to #Rome aged 17 and she became the queen of the Piper, the most important music venue at the time.

She witnessed the entire evolution of Italian Beat into Italian Prog Rock thanks to her liasons with artists of the scene, she sang immortal Italian pop songs for 5 decades, she spent wild nights with unknown young musicians such as #PinkFloyd and #JimiHendrix in the 1960s, she ideally followed the route of πŸ‘‰ Marco Polo when she became the most famous Italian singer in Asia, performing for the King of Jordan and the Shah Of Persia in the 1970s and for Chinese Tv in 1980s-90s with audiences exceeding 1 billion... yes, quite a life ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Sam Gopal
πŸ“€ Escalator
#AcidRock #PsychedelicRock

This year couldn't start better for me, as I discovered that 55 years ago Sam Gopal from London, #UK released their debut and only studio album.

The band was put up in 1966 and named after its founder, a Malaysian student and tabla player who moved to London.

Escalator was in fact written at the end of 1968, mainly by the newly entered member, a former roadie for Jimi Hendrix: he was called Ian Willis (after his mother's surname), later he chose to go back to his original name Ian Fraser Kilmister, who then became worldwide known as Lemmy🀘

Years later #Lemmy stated that after seeing #JimiHendrix, he concluded he should give up the guitar... so Escalator is the first album ever to feature Lemmy and his only one as vocalist and guitarist 🎸

In this album:
#SamGopal β€“ tabla, percussion, drums
#IanWillis β€“ vocals, guitar
#RogerDElia – guitar
#PhilDuke – bass

🎸 When #Prince passed away someone said he had "the stage presence of #MichaelJackson, the musical chameleon status of #DavidBowie, the guitar wizardry of #JimiHendrix, and he was as visually provocative as #Madonna"...

Art and music scenes have always been overfilled of such (sometimes clueless) comparisons but... watch that until the endπŸ‘‡β€οΈβ€πŸ”₯
