Steppenwolf
πŸ“€ Steppenwolf
#Rock #PsychedelicRock #RockBlues #HardRock

55 years ago Steppenwolf from Los Angeles, #USA released their self-titled debut studio album.

#Steppenwolf was a great commercial success in the years, mainly thanks to its iconic songs "Born To Be Wild" and "The Pusher" which served as soundtrack to the 1969 milestone Easy Rider!

If some days earlier πŸ‘‰ Blue Cheer released perhaps the first Heavy Metal album, in Steppenwolf the term "Heavy Metal" was first used in a song (again "Born To Be Wild", one of the most covered songs ever) 🀘

This album also contains a cover of #MuddyWaters "Hoochie Coochie Man".

In this album:
#JohnKay β€“ lead vocals, guitar, harmonica
#MichaelMonarch β€“ guitars, backing vocals
#GoldyMcJohn β€“ Hammond organ, piano, Wurlitzer electric piano

Pink Floyd
πŸ“€ The Dark Side of the Moon
#Rock #ProgressiveRock #PsychedelicRock

50 years ago Pink Floyd from London, #UK released their 8th studio album.

A concept developed in previous years, produced by #PinkFloyd under the supervision of #ChrisThomas and #AlanParsons, the album was an immediate success, marking their worldwide breakthrough and becoming the highest selling record of all 1970s. It remained in US charts until 1988, the longest permanence ever!

Lirycal themes include conflict, greed, consumerism, time passing, death, insanity, the latter inspired by former band mate #SydBarrett mental state.

The album contains #MusiqueConcrete elements and the heavenly wordless vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky" by #ClareTorry (brought in by Parsons).

#DavidGilmour – vocals, guitars, Synth
#NickMason – drums, percussion

#SpaceRock #AcidRock #HardRock #PsychedelicRock

50 years ago Hawkwind from London, #UK released their 1st live album.

Recorded in Liverpool and London in December 1972, Space Ritual, as the title suggests, is the perfect description of what #Hawkwind live performances were: rock, psychedelic and visual rituals!

This album was also a great commercial success for the band, peaking UK charts at n.9 and entering US charts for their first time and is widely regarded as the true symbol of the genre called Space Rock!

Space Ritual is also considered one of the all time best live albums.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (a play on the phrase "In The Garden Of Eden) is #IronButterfly most succesful album, it peaked n.4 in US charts and was the first platinum-selling for Atlantic Records.

The 17 minutes titletrack is one of the best Psychedelic suites ever, with one of the most recognizable riffs in Rock history, highly seminal and influential for the growth of Hard Rock, Occult Rock and Heavy Metal🀘

#ProgressiveRock #ExperimentalRock #PsychedelicRock #PostHardcore

20 years ago The Mars Volta from El Paso, Texas #USA released their debut studio album.

De-Loused In The Comatorium recieved immediate praise and critical acclaim and it's to date the #MarsVolta best selling album.

A concept on Cerpin Taxt, a man who enters a week-long coma after overdosing, it's the only album to feature founding member Jeremy Ward, who died in fact after overdosing one month earlier the release.

Fantastic album!

In this album:

Sam Gopal
πŸ“€ Escalator
#AcidRock #PsychedelicRock

This year couldn't start better for me, as I discovered that 55 years ago Sam Gopal from London, #UK released their debut and only studio album.

The band was put up in 1966 and named after its founder, a Malaysian student and tabla player who moved to London.

Escalator was in fact written at the end of 1968, mainly by the newly entered member, a former roadie for Jimi Hendrix: he was called Ian Willis (after his mother's surname), later he chose to go back to his original name Ian Fraser Kilmister, who then became worldwide known as Lemmy🀘

Years later #Lemmy stated that after seeing #JimiHendrix, he concluded he should give up the guitar... so Escalator is the first album ever to feature Lemmy and his only one as vocalist and guitarist 🎸

In this album:
#SamGopal β€“ tabla, percussion, drums
#IanWillis β€“ vocals, guitar
#RogerDElia – guitar
#PhilDuke – bass

Coven
πŸ“€ Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls
#PsychedelicRock #AcidRock #OccultRock

55 years ago Coven from Chicago, #USA, released their debut studio album.

Witchcraft is probably the first Occult Rock album to openly deal with Satanism.

The album was immediately withdrawn from American stores because its release coincided with the mass hysteria about occult and satanism caused by the #CharlesManson Family multiple murders.

This album is considered seminal for the entire Occult, Gothic and Heavy Metal scenes, themes and imagery.
The opener track is entitled "Black Sabbath", the album closure is the 13 minutes celebration of a "Satanic Mass"... the co-writer and bassist is credited as Oz Osborne...
An eternal aura of mystery and evil... #Coven 😈

In this album:
#JinxDawson – lead vocals
#JimDonlinger – guitar, vocals
#JimNyeholt – organ, piano, keyboards
#AlanEstes, #OzOsborne – bass

Paul Chain
πŸ“€ Violet Art Of Improvisation
#PsychedelicRock #KrautRock #Electronic #ProgressiveRock #FreeImprovisation

35 years ago Paul Chain from #Pesaro, #LeMarche, #Italy released 2 studio albums, his first works simply as Paul Chain.

If Life And Death expands the eclectic Doom work started with his πŸ‘‰ 1984 debut, Violet Art... is an incredible and hypnotic trip to hell, it could have well come out from the most obscure 1970s Experimental #OccultRock.

In both albums Chain is backed by former πŸ‘‰ Death SS members, and the language used is always phonetic resemblant to English.

Haunting 😈

In this albums:
#PaulChain - guitar, organ, vocals, keyboards, bass, synth, electronics, producer
#SanctisGhoram, #Gilas, #AldoPolverari - vocals
#ClaudGalley, #KlausRosental - bass

High Tide
πŸ“€ Sea Shanties
#HardRock #PsychedelicRock #HeavyMetal

55 years ago, some say in September, some in October, some in December, High Tide from Northampton, England, #UK released their debut studio album.

At the time #HighTide were poorly considered, if not ignored. In retrospect Sea Shanties is regarded as one of the earliest Heavy Metal albums🀘

The violin of Simon House (later #Hawkwind) omnipresent throughout the album, surprisingly contributes to deliever a heavier sound!

This is often labeled as #ProtoMetal, #ProtoProg, Proto whatever, to me it's always been like The Doors met Black Sabbath!

The instrumental "Death Warmed Up" is one of the most mind blowing pieces I've head ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#RogerHadden - drums
#TonyHill - guitars, vocals
#PeterPavli - bass

Porcupine Tree
πŸ“€ The Sky Moves Sideways
#ProgressiveRock #SpaceRock #PsychedelicRock

30 years ago Porcupine Tree from England, #UK, released their 3rd studio album.

The Sky Moves Sideways is in fact their first release as a proper band, their previous albums were more of a Steven Wilson solo project.
It's also their first album to be distributed out of the UK. Critically acclaimed, it has been compared to Pink Floyd's middle 70s works for its musical structure.

#PorcupineTree tried to keep out of music business and gained a cult following, leading critics to describe them as "the most important band you'd never heard of"❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#StevenWilson β€“ vocals, guitar, keyboards, tapes, programming
#ColinEdwin β€“ bass
#RichardBarbieri β€“keyboards, electronics, programming

50 years ago NEU! from DΓΌsseldorf, #Germany released their 3rd studio album.

NEU! 75 is #NEU final album in the 70s, they disbanded after the release and shortly came back only in middle 1990s.

I have no words to describe the beauty of this album, I use those of a reviewer who wrote: "The sounds you have in your mind and didn't know already existed"... actual and timeless masterpiece ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#MichaelRother – guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals
#KlausDinger – guitar, drums, percussion, vocals, electronics

#BlackHole were founded in 1981 as a Heavy Prog band with influences ranging from Black Sabbath to #RPI (Rock Progressivo Italiano).

After years of underground, the band finally recorded this album in Spring 1985 at Diamine Studio in Venice.
Land Of Mystery is Black Hole only album in the original formation, they disbanded in 1987.
Vocalist and leader #RobertMeasles released 2 more albums as Black Hole in 2000 and 2017.

60 years ago Paul Revere & The Raiders from Boise, Idaho, #USA released their 5th studio album.

Midnight Ride marked the commercial breakthrough for #PaulRevereAndTheRaiders, the album charted top 10 in the US.

Every song in here is a little gem, special mention to "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" that became in the years a Punk Rock standard.

Signify is often addressed as the #PorcupineTree #Krautrock album for the wider use of electronics as compared to their πŸ‘‰ previous album and the presence of Ambient tracks.

Whatever... another amazing work from this fantastic band ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
