Sam Gopal
📀 Escalator
#AcidRock #PsychedelicRock
This year couldn't start better for me, as I discovered that 55 years ago Sam Gopal from London, #UK released their debut and only studio album.
The band was put up in 1966 and named after its founder, a Malaysian student and tabla player who moved to London.
Escalator was in fact written at the end of 1968, mainly by the newly entered member, a former roadie for Jimi Hendrix: he was called Ian Willis (after his mother's surname), later he chose to go back to his original name Ian Fraser Kilmister, who then became worldwide known as Lemmy🤘
Years later #Lemmy stated that after seeing #JimiHendrix, he concluded he should give up the guitar... so Escalator is the first album ever to feature Lemmy and his only one as vocalist and guitarist 🎸
In this album:
#SamGopal – tabla, percussion, drums
#IanWillis – vocals, guitar
#RogerDElia – guitar
#PhilDuke – bass
