Pink Floyd
📀 Wish You Were Here
#ProgressiveRock #ArtRock

50 years ago Pink Floyd from London, #UK released their 9th studio album.

All has been said and written about Wish You Were Here. I don't know if this is the best #PinkFloyd, if this is the final "real" Pink Floyd, the ultimate of an unrepeatable era or the best album ever.

I only know that this is the album I would give, recommend, dedicate to my best friend... as they did to their best friend!

An endless, timeless, heavenly ballad of the finest Rock music ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#DavidGilmour – vocals, guitars, bass
#NickMason – drums, timpani, cymbals
#RogerWaters – vocals, bass
#RichardWright – vocals, keyboards, piano, vibraphone, minimoog

Additional musicians
#RoyHarper – vocals on "Have A Cigar"
#VenettaFields, #CarlenaWilliams – backing vocals

Ozzy Obourne
📀 The Ultimate Sin
#HeavyMetal #HardRock

40 years ago Ozzy Osbourne from West Midlands, England, #UK released his 4th studio album.

The Ultimate Sin was the highest charting and best selling Ozzy album at the time.

The album is generally poorly rated in Osbourne's solo discography and even Ozzy himself was never much proud of it in retrospect.
Nevertheless this is one of my favorites from him, also thanks to the wonderful work of guitarist Jake E. Lee, here at his last studio appearance with Ozzy🤘

In this album:
#OzzyOsbourne – vocals
#JakeELee – guitars
#PhilSoussan – bass
#RandyCastillo – drums

Additional performers
#MikeMoran – keyboards

Black Sabbath
📀 Seventh Star
#HeavyMetal #HardRock

40 years ago Black Sabbath from Birmingham, #UK, released their 12th studio album.

Seventh Star came out 3 years after the previous 👉 Born Again and was originally intended as the first solo album of guitarist Tony Iommi.
#BlackSabbath in fact did not officially disband, but Iommi put the band on hiatus since at the time he was the only remaining original member.
The record company pushed Iommi to still use the Black Sabbath monicker, that's why the album was published as "Black Sabbath featuring Tony Iommi".

Despite being negatively recieved by critics and generally poorly reviewed, this is a great album ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#TonyIommi – guitars
#GlennHughes – vocals
#EricSinger – drums
#DaveSpitz "The Beast" – bass
#GeoffNicholls – keyboards

Additional musician
#GordonCopley – bass
#28January

Pendragon
📀 The Masquerade Overture
#ProgressiveRock #SymphonicRock #NeoProg

30 years ago Pendragon from Gloucestershire, England, #UK, released their 5th studio album.

The Masquerade Overture is widely considered #Pendragon best album, amazing from start to finish ❤️‍🔥

🎭The cover artwork is clearly inspired by #VeniceCarnival, #SanMarco Square is easily recognizable.

In this album:
#NickBarret – vocals, guitar, synthesizer, effects
#PeterGee– bass, moog bass
#CliveNolan – keyboards
#FudgeSmith – drums
#TracyHitchings, #TinaRiley, #AnthonyPlowman, #GwenRoss, #SimonClew – backing vocals

Depeche Mode
📀 Black Celebration
#Industrial #DarkWave #ElectronicRock #SynthWave

40 years ago Depeche Mode from Essex, England, #UK released their 5th studio album.

Black Celebration is the landmark album for #DepecheMode. The band moved away from the early Synth Pop years and teenybopper image in favour of darker sound, lyrics and outfit.

This is widely regarded as the first of a four album series that made Depeche Mode one of the leading and most influential bands in the 80s and 90s ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#MartinGore – guitar, synthesizers, sampling, vocals, backing vocals
#AlanWilder – synthesizers, sampling, drum programming, backing vocals, piano
#DavidGahan – vocals, sampling

Camel
📀 Moonmadness
#ProgressiveRock

50 years ago Camel from Surrey, England, #UK released their 4th studio album.

Moonmadness is the last #Camel album recorded by the original formation, the final 4 songs are a loose concept with each track based on the personality of each band member.

As I wrote for their previous albums, Camel are probably my favorite Progressive Rock band and Moonmadness is another heavenly masterpiece in their discography ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#AndrewLatimer – guitars, flute, vocals
#PeterBardens – keyboards, vocals
#DougFerguson – bass, vocals
#AndyWard – drums, percussion; voice
#26March

Led Zeppelin
📀 Presence
#HardRock #RockBlues

50 years ago Led Zeppelin from London, #UK released their 7th studio album.

Presence was recorded while Robert Plant was recovering after a serious car accident earlier that year, the title came from the strong presence the group felt as they worked together.
The album debuted at n.1 in US charts, though it did not sell like their previous works.
This is generally not considered among #LedZeppelin highlights, which for me means that is "only" a great album🤘❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#JohnBonham – drums
#JohnPaulJones – bass
#JimmyPage – guitars, production
#RobertPlant – vocals, harmonica

The Divine Comedy
📀 Casanova
#ArtPop #BaroquePop #ChamberPop #OrchestralPop

30 years ago The Divine Comedy from Northern Ireland, #UK released their 4th studio album.

Casanova marked the band's commercial breakthrough, mainly thanks to the single "Something For The Weekend" after which #TheDivineComedy were (wrongly) addressed by many as #BritPop.
The album and the band are in fact rather different!

Casanova is apparently linked to Venice.
👉 "Something For The Weekend" video is entirely filmed in Venice, the album title and the song "Theme From Casanova" are inspired by 👉 the Venetian adventurer, the front cover is a photo of leader Neil Hannon on a water taxi on the #GrandCanal.

Classy work 🙌

In this album:
#NeilHannon – bass, guitar, percussion, piano, Hammond organ, vocals, Wurlitzer, timpani, producer, art direction
#DarrenAllison – percussion, drums
#JobyTalbot – piano, saxophone, orchestra conductor

Rainbow
📀 Rising
#HardRock #HeavyMetal

50 years ago Rainbow from
Hertford, England, #UK released their 2nd studio album.

Leader Ritchie Blackmore had dismissed the band that recorded the 👉 debut album and hired Hard Rock veterans for this.

Recorded at Giorgio Moroder's Musicland studios in Munich, Rising is unanimously regarded as a landmark album in Heavy Metal history, cited as an influence by virtually every band that came in the following years.

The two final 8-minute suites "Stargazer" and "A Light in the Black" are among the most epic compositions of the genre ❤️‍🔥

Legendary🤘

In this album:
#RonnieJamesDio – vocals
#RitchieBlackmore – guitar
#TonyCarey – keyboards
#JimmyBain – bass
#CozyPowell – drums

What is this thing that builds our dreams
Yet slips away from us?

There's no chance for us
It's all decided for us
This world has only one
Sweet moment set aside for us.

Who wants to live forever?

40 years ago The Smiths from Manchester, #UK, released their 3rd studio album.

The Queen Is Dead is unanimously considered #TheSmiths best album and one of the greatest and most influential records in British music.

I remember totally hating this band and this sound at the time, as much as I love them today!

Soft Machine
📀 Softs
#JazzRock #ProgressiveRock #InstrumentalRock #JazzFusion

50 years ago Soft Machine from #Canterbury, England, #UK released their 9th studio album.

Like 👉 their previous album, Softs features a wider use of guitars as compared to the band's past discography.

During the recording of the album, #SoftMachine last remaining original member, Mike Ratledge, left the band.
This is probably why many see this album as a complete loss of the band's identity.

In any case this is amazing music from beginning to end ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#RoyBabbington – bass
#JohnEtheridge – acoustic and electric guitars
#JohnMarshall – drums, percussion
#AlanWakeman – saxophones
#KarlJenkins – piano, electric piano, Hohner Pianet, Minimoog, string synthesizers, orchestrations

#HeavyMetal #PowerMetal

40 years ago Elixir from London, #UK released their debut studio album.

The band was founded in 1983 and is probably the latest New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (#NWOBHM) act to release its debut album.

The Son Of Odin is widely considered not only a hidden gem of that British movement, but one of the best Power Metal albums of the 1980s🤘

#Elixir in this album:
#PaulTaylor – vocals, keyboards
#PhilDenton – guitar, keyboards
#NormanGordon – guitar
#KevinDobbs – bass
#NigelDobbs – drums

The Sisterhood

40 years ago The Sisterhood from Leeds, #UK released their debut and only studio album.

#TheSisterhood was a musical project by Andrew Eldritch after disbanding 👉 The Sisters Of Mercy.
The songs were intended to appear in S.O.M. second album but both Eldritch and the departed Wayne Hussey (who founded 👉 The Mission) agreed not to use the band's original name for their new projects.

Gift is widely regarded as a landmark album for the development of Electronic and Techno music, and it's undoubtedly a DarkWave milestone🤘🖤

John Mayall with Eric Clapton
📀 Blues Breakers
#RockBlues

60 years ago John Mayall from Cheshire, #UK released his debut studio album.

John Mayall was a key figure of the 👉 British Blues movement since late 1950s. He focused on live activity and on the growth of Blues music in Britain.

The album contains 5 original songs and covers of #OtisRush, #FreddieKing, #RayCharles, #MoseAllison, #RobertJohnson, #MemphisSlim, #LittleWalter.

Black Sabbath
📀 Master Of Reality
#HeavyMetal

55 years ago Black Sabbath from Birmingham, England #UK, released their 3rd studio album.

For this album Iommi and Butler downtuned their instruments, achieving what Iommi called a "bigger, heavier sound"🤘
For this reason Master Of Reality is not only considered a Heavy Metal milestone, also the forefather of #StonerRock / #SludgeMetal.

The album begins with a tape loop of Tony Iommi coughing from a joint he was smoking with Ozzy Osbourne, perfect introduction to the opener "Sweet Leaf", an overt ode to marjuana.

The proto speed metal "After Forever", the anthem "Children Of The Grave", the stunning psychedelic walz "Solitude", the final stoner "Into The Void"...

Essential #BlackSabbath, total masterpiece ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
#OzzyOsbourne – vocals
#TonyIommi – guitars, synthesiser, flute, piano
#GeezerButler – bass
#BillWard – drums, percussion, sleighbells

Signify is often addressed as the #PorcupineTree #Krautrock album for the wider use of electronics as compared to their 👉 previous album and the presence of Ambient tracks.

Whatever... another amazing work from this fantastic band ❤️‍🔥

In this album:
