Blur
📀 The Great Escape
#BritPop #AlternativeRock
30 years ago Blur from Essex, #UK released their 4th studio album.
The Great Escape is the band's best-selling album and spawned #Blur most succesful singles, "Country Life", "Stereotypes", "Charmless Man".
It is considered the final album of the so called Blur Britpop era, started with their 1993
👉 Modern Life Is Rubbish and followed by their 1994
👉 Parklife.
If you listen to songs like "Globe Alone" or "The Universal" you can understand why Blur was not just Britpop.
With this "album of the week" I intend to celebrate this amazing trilogy: great band, probably more appreciated in retrospect than in those days🤘
In this album:
#DamonAlbarn – vocals, piano, keyboards, organ, synthesiser
#GrahamCoxon – guitars, banjo, saxophone, backing vocals
#AlexJames – bass, backing vocals
#DaveRowntree – drums, percussion, backing vocals

The Divine Comedy
📀 Casanova
#ArtPop #BaroquePop #ChamberPop #OrchestralPop
30 years ago The Divine Comedy from Northern Ireland, #UK released their 4th studio album.
Casanova marked the band's commercial breakthrough, mainly thanks to the single "Something For The Weekend" after which #TheDivineComedy were (wrongly) addressed by many as #BritPop.
The album and the band are in fact rather different!
Casanova is apparently linked to Venice.
👉 "Something For The Weekend" video is entirely filmed in Venice, the album title and the song "Theme From Casanova" are inspired by 👉 the Venetian adventurer, the front cover is a photo of leader Neil Hannon on a water taxi on the #GrandCanal.
Classy work 🙌
In this album:
#NeilHannon – bass, guitar, percussion, piano, Hammond organ, vocals, Wurlitzer, timpani, producer, art direction
#DarrenAllison – percussion, drums
#JobyTalbot – piano, saxophone, orchestra conductor
