Television
πŸ“€ Marquee Moon
#PostPunk #ArtRock #GarageRock

45 years ago Television, rock band from New York, #USA, released their debut album Marquee Moon.
This album was critically acclaimed at the time and today is considered seminal for all later development of Punk, Alternative Rock, New Wave, Indie Rock.
#Television music was clean, improvisational and technically proficient as compared to all contemporaneous punk rock bands: therefore Marquee Moon is regarded both as a defining release of the punk era and even a Post Punk work... before punk exploded!

Television were:
#TomVerlaine – guitar, keyboards, lead vocals, songwriter, producer
Billy Ficca – drums
Richard Lloyd – guitar, vocals
Fred Smith – bass, vocals

#BrianEno produced some early Television demo songs which later would be included in the album: Tom Verlaine, not happy with the sound, decided to produce Marquee Moon by himself, with the help of sound engineer Andy Johns (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin).
Masterpiece!

Iggy Pop
πŸ“€ The Idiot
#ArtRock #ExperimentalRock #PostPunk

45 years ago Iggy Pop released his debut solo album The Idiot.
Those were the Berlin years for Iggy: as happened for his friend David Bowie's album
πŸ‘‰ Low 2 month earlier, The Idiot was written initially in France and recorded in #Germany, this time in Munich at πŸ‘‰ Giorgio Moroder's Musicland studios.

The Idiot could well be considered a Pop/Bowie album because all songs were written and performed by #IggyPop (vocals) and #DavidBowie (keyboards, synthesizer, guitar, piano, saxophone, xylophone, backing vocals) who also produced the album in collaboration with #TonyVisconti.
The song "China Girl" would become a successful single years later, re-recorded and performed by David Bowie in 1983.

Gang Of Four
πŸ“€ Songs of the Free
#PostPunk #DancePunk #NewWave

40 years ago Gang Of Four, Post Punk band from #UK, released their 3rd studio album Songs of the Free.

I must confess I have not a clue who these guys are, nor I particularly like this album, but I choose them as "Album of the Week" for the cover: it's rather horrible, yes, but it's a picture of Venice! And I guess it's the only post punk band ever to have Venice on an album cover πŸ˜‰

Did you know this band?

#GangOfFour in this album were:
HugoBurnham β€“ drums, percussion
Andrew Gill β€“ guitar, vocals
Jon King β€“ vocals, melodica
#SaraLee β€“ bass, backing vocals
Stevie Lange – backing vocals
Joy Yates – backing vocals

"The soldiers close in under a yellow moon
All shadows and deliverance
Under a black flag
A hundred years of blood
Crimson
The ribbon tightens round my throat
I open my mouth
And my head bursts open
A sound like a tiger thrashing in the water
Thrashing in the water
Over and over
We die one after the other
It feels like a hundred years"

The Sugarcubes
πŸ“€ Life's Too Good
#PostPunk #AlternativeRock #NewWave

35 years ago The Sugarcubes from #Iceland released their debut studio album.

This is a rare example of how an album and a band can be fundamental for the entire music movement of a nation and instrumental for promoting the country itself !
There were little news from Iceland, a country totally far from usual routes and general attention, #Sugarcubes... broke the ice!

Life's Too Good was recorded betweeen ReykjavΓk and London, where their first single "Birthday" (included in this album) had radio airplay in 1987.

The album was an unexpected success worldwide, in particular the eclectical and humorous attitude and amazing voice of the female singer was highly praised: her name was (and is) BjΓΆrk!

In this album:
#Bjork GuΓ°mundsdΓ³ttir – vocals, keyboard
#BOlafsson – bass
#SBaldursson – drums
#PEldon – guitar
#EBenediktsson – vocals, trumpet

Joy Division
πŸ“€ Unknown Pleasures
#PostPunk #GothicRock

45 years ago Joy Division from Salford, England, #UK released their debut studio album, their only one during lead singer Ian Curtis' lifetime.

Unknown Pleasures is unanimously regarded as one of the most important and influential albums of all time, it inspired generations of musicians in every genre.

To me this album has always been like Jim Morrison came back to invent Gothic RockπŸ”₯
The word "masterpiece" doesn't probably fit for #JoyDivision... this is simply the most desperate, depressing, hopeless, DARKEST album ever made, written by a young vocalist and lyricist who took his life few months later aged 23❀️‍πŸ”₯

Essential🀘

In this album:
#IanCurtis β€“ vocals
#BernardSumner β€“ guitar, keyboards
#PeterHook β€“ bass
#StephenMorris β€“ drums, percussion

45 years ago Talking Heads from New York City, #USA, released their 3rd studio album.

Fear Of Music was highly praised and is considered the #TalkingHeads album in which the "hand" of Brian Eno is more apparent.

#JerryHarrison β€“ guitar, backing vocals, keyboards

#NewWave #PostPunk #DarkWave #GothicRock

40 years ago Litfiba from #Florence, #Italy released their debut studio album.

After years spent in the πŸ‘‰ Italian Rock underground scene and the collaboration with πŸ‘‰ Diaframma few months earlier, Litfiba were able to build a strong fanbase.

Desaparecido was published by I.R.A. Records and immediately became a cult release. It's the first of 3 chapters (albums) of what #Litfiba called "Trilogia Del Potere".

Irregardless of the genre, a Must for every Italian Rocker ❀️‍πŸ”₯

CCCP - Fedeli Alla Linea
πŸ“€ Ortodossia II
πŸ“€ Compagni, Cittadini, Fratelli, Partigiani
#PunkRock #PostPunk #ArtPunk #AlternativeRock

40 years ago in undocumented dates, CCCP from #ReggioEmilia, #Italy, released their their debut studio albums, 2 EPs.

Both were published through the indipendent label Attack Punk Records from Bologna and became soon sought after rarities, until Virgin Records re-printed and published them as a Compilation in 1988.

Since their beginnings, the band opted for a drum machine instead of a real drummer.
Danilo Fatur and Annarella are credited as they are in fact the band's theatrical performers.
All songs in here became #CCCP signatures and live standards, some were re-recorded and included in their 1986 debut full-length.

Crazy, Seminal ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In these albums:
#GiovanniLindoFerretti - vocals
#MassimoZamboni - guitar
#UmbertoNegri - bass
#DaniloFatur - "Artista del popolo"
#Annarella - "Benemerita Soubrette"

#JohnnyMarr β€“ guitars, sampler, marimba, orchestration
#AndyRourke β€“ bass

40 years ago New Model Army from Bradford, England, #UK released their 3rd studio album.

The Ghost of Cain propelled the band to the forefront of the Alternative Rock scene, also thanks to the acclaimed underground hit song "51st State".

Along with the following Thunder And Consolation my favorite #NewModelArmy ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#JustinSullivan β€“ vocals, guitar
#RobHeaton β€“ drums

πŸ“ŒπŸŽΈ There's a brand new live venue in Venice island, opened few months ago.
Riverside Note is close to Santa Lucia train station and next Friday September 25 will host #VenetiaeObscurae, a format conceived by Venice dark lady #NumaEchos.

This time concert by local #DarkWave, #PostPunk, #IndustrialRock band #30Denari, who recently relased their debut full-length album.
