πŸ“Œ12 March 1967.

πŸ“€ 55 years ago Velvet Underground & Nico, produced by #AndyWarhol, was released.
It was almost ignored at the time in #USA and worldwide, perhaps considered too weird and experimental and it sold just 30,000 copies.

It's always hard to recommend to your friends a rock album, there are so many in history and so many genres and subgenres... so I let #BrianEno (one of the greatest music geniuses of the XX century) speak, when interviewed about #VelvetUnderground: "Everyone who bought one of those 30,000 copies started a band."
Quite a recommendation...πŸ‘

This album is still today considered one of the most important records in Rock #MusicHistory ! 🀟🎸

David Bowie
πŸ“€ Low

45 years ago David Bowie released his 11th studio album Low. It's a complete change of sound in his music, reflecting a complete change in personal life! After years of drug abuse in the US #DavidBowie and his friend #IggyPop had just relocated first in France and at the end of 1976 in Berlin.
Low, recorded in France and completed in #Germany, is the first album of the so called Berlin Trilogy, where Bowie and Iggy collaborated and appeared in the respective albums and tours. In Low Bowie flirts with #ExperimentalRock and #Ambient, thanks to the work of his longtime producer #TonyVisconti and his longtime friend #BrianEno, the genius who was actually inventing ambient music at the time! 🀟
The sound is also deeply influenced by German acts such as #Neu! and #Kraftwerk.
The album contains the single "Sound And Vision", one of the biggest Bowie successes (not intended by him who did nothing to promote it) thanks to BBC usage of the song in commercials.

Television
πŸ“€ Marquee Moon
#PostPunk #ArtRock #GarageRock

45 years ago Television, rock band from New York, #USA, released their debut album Marquee Moon.
This album was critically acclaimed at the time and today is considered seminal for all later development of Punk, Alternative Rock, New Wave, Indie Rock.
#Television music was clean, improvisational and technically proficient as compared to all contemporaneous punk rock bands: therefore Marquee Moon is regarded both as a defining release of the punk era and even a Post Punk work... before punk exploded!

Television were:
#TomVerlaine – guitar, keyboards, lead vocals, songwriter, producer
Billy Ficca – drums
Richard Lloyd – guitar, vocals
Fred Smith – bass, vocals

#BrianEno produced some early Television demo songs which later would be included in the album: Tom Verlaine, not happy with the sound, decided to produce Marquee Moon by himself, with the help of sound engineer Andy Johns (Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin).
Masterpiece!

U2
πŸ“€ The Joshua Tree
#Rock #ArtRock #PopRock

35 years ago U2 from #Ireland released their 5th studio album, widely considered their mastepiece and one of the all time best rock albums: The Joshua Tree, entitled after the California National desert Park of the same name.

Under the production mastery and supervision of #BrianEno and Daniel Lanois, this album soon became iconic, like all the singles extracted and related videoclips.
Peaking the charts in 25 countries, selling millions of copies, representing their commercial breakthrough in the US, TJT was the perfect mix of Irish and American folk with protest lyrics and raised #U2 from initial fame to worldwide rock stardom!

🎼🦁 Yesterday, Sunday October 22, #BrianEno was awarded the "Leone D'Oro" here in Venice #SanMarco, for his prominent role in creating and shaping music.

His speech about the relationship between music and technology can be summarized in the following words...
"I'm considered a genius which I'm not, but looking at today I'm proud of it!
The primary aim of my work has always been to unite... today those who create algorhitms that have the ONLY aim to divide are considered geniuses. Our 'civilization' will disappear soon."

Genesis
πŸ“€ The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
#ProgressiveRock #ArtRock

50 years ago Genesis from Surrey, England, #UK released their 6th studio album.

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a concept album about a guy from New York who is afraid of death, love and sex and sees them all through his complex journey.
It was initially intended as a #RockOpera, but recordings were not easy due to tensions within the band as Peter Gabriel temporarily left to work with filmmaker William Friedkin. Most of the songs were therefore developed by the rest of the band even if Gabriel wanted to write all the lyrics.

It ended up to be #Genesis last album with Peter Gabriel. Shame because it is widely regarded as the highest peak in Gabriel vocal performance, he also asked #BrianEno to add synthesized effects on his voice on several tracks (credited as "Enossification").

In any case a fantastic album from start to finish ❀️‍πŸ”₯
