🎼4 March 1948. Christopher Russell Edward Squire was born in London. Known as Chris Squire, he was the #bassist, backing vocalist and founding member of the fantastic progressive rock band Yes, which along with contemporaries #Genesis, #KingCrimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer (#ELP), #VanderGraafGenerator, #GentleGiant, #Camel and many more, indelibly marked the Progressive Rock Era of the early 70s in the UK! Chris left this world in 2015, to remember him I chose maybe the most famous song he wrote for #Yes in 1971, 50 years ago, along with his band mate Jon Anderson 🀟🎸🎢

🎼12 November 1971. 50 years ago Genesis released their 3rd studio album Nursery Cryme. It's a gem of Progressive Rock and it's their first album with 2 new members who would become 2 rock giants 🀟: I'm talking about #guitarist 🎸 Steve Hackett and #drummer πŸ₯Phil Collins, who few years later would become the band's #vocalistπŸŽ™in substitution of the departed #PeterGabriel (another giant, is him? πŸ˜‰).
The opening track of this album is called The Musical BoxπŸ‘‡ which IMHO is one of the highest peaks in contemporary music! πŸ˜³πŸ”

🎼12 February 1950. Happy Birthday πŸ₯³πŸΎto amazing progressive rock #guitarist 🎸and songwriter Steve Hackett, born Stephen Richard Hackett in London, England.
With #Genesis from 1971 to 1977, after that a great solo career and uncountable collaborations.
He's supposed to play not far from Venice next summer... I hope to meet him in the city πŸ˜‰πŸ€Ÿ
Listen to one of his masterpieces, maybe the one I most love πŸ‘‰ here

You all have a nice Monday!

50 years ago Genesis from Surrey, England, #UK released their 5th studio album.

Selling England By The Pound was an immediate success becoming the highest charting #Genesis in the UK and entering US Billboard.

The album title and the initial lyrics of the opening track became in the years cited as a symbol of the loss of English folk culture and the increased American influence.

Timeless Masterpiece ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Genesis
πŸ“€ The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
#ProgressiveRock #ArtRock

50 years ago Genesis from Surrey, England, #UK released their 6th studio album.

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a concept album about a guy from New York who is afraid of death, love and sex and sees them all through his complex journey.
It was initially intended as a #RockOpera, but recordings were not easy due to tensions within the band as Peter Gabriel temporarily left to work with filmmaker William Friedkin. Most of the songs were therefore developed by the rest of the band even if Gabriel wanted to write all the lyrics.

It ended up to be #Genesis last album with Peter Gabriel. Shame because it is widely regarded as the highest peak in Gabriel vocal performance, he also asked #BrianEno to add synthesized effects on his voice on several tracks (credited as "Enossification").

In any case a fantastic album from start to finish ❀️‍πŸ”₯

30 years ago Dream Theater from Boston, #USA released their first EP, even though with its 57-minute length it could be considered a proper album.

Side B is a fantastic collection of live cover songs performed at a fan club concert on January 31, 1995, at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London.
Songs covered are of #EltonJohn, #DeepPurple, #LedZeppelin, plus "The Big Medley" containing excerpts of #PinkFloyd, #Kansas, #Queen, #Journey, #DixieDregs, #Genesis.

In this album:
#JamesLaBrie β€“ vocals, production
