🎼9 March 1842. Giuseppe Verdi premières his Nabucco at Teatro La Scala in Milan.
🎼9 March 1844. Exactly 2 years later Verdi premières his Ernani at Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
These 2 are the most famous early works by #GiuseppeVerdi and establish him as the unrivaled Maestro of Italian Opera: worldwide known and appreciated for operas such as Nabucco, Macbeth, Rigoletto, Trovatore, Traviata, Don Carlos, Aida, Otello, Falstaff and for his sacred compositions, Verdi is still today sublimated by the numerous "Arias" and "Chorals" extracted from his operas and often perfomed all over the world.
Here I post a stunning performance πŸ’“ at La Fenice in Venice of "Va, Pensiero, sull'Ali Dorate" from Nabucco, for sure one of the most representative songs for #Italy ever! Some say it should have become Italy's real national anthem.

🀴9 March 1789. The last Doge of The #Serenissima Republic of Venice is elected: his name (yes 😊) Ludovico Giovanni Manin. In fact he wasn't very lucky... 120 Doges (governors) in #Venicehistory from 697 (year of the foundation of the Republic) to 1797, Ludovico had to face decline, mainly due to the troops of Napoleon invading #Italy and arriving (with almost no resistance) at Venice "gates"... In order to avoid the French troops entering Venice, he was forced to abdicate by Napoleon via the Venetian Maggior Consiglio (the government). It was πŸ‘‰ 12 May 1797, the day of the deposition of the last Doge. Ludovico remained in Venice until his death in 1802, he must have been one of the saddest men on Earth 😒 in his last years: on one side he saw Venice plundered of his works of art by #Napoleon before passing under #Austria domination, on the other side he was treated like a traitor by his fellow citizens. History has then demonstrated that he couldn't really do much, resisting to Napoleon was impossible!

35 years ago U2 from #Ireland released their 5th studio album, widely considered their mastepiece and one of the all time best rock albums: The Joshua Tree, entitled after the California National desert Park of the same name.

Under the production mastery and supervision of #BrianEno and Daniel Lanois, this album soon became iconic, like all the singles extracted and related videoclips.
Peaking the charts in 25 countries, selling millions of copies, representing their commercial breakthrough in the US, TJT was the perfect mix of Irish and American folk with protest lyrics and raised #U2 from initial fame to worldwide rock stardom!
