๐ŸŽผ30 March 1945. Happy Birthday ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿพ to Mr. "Slowhand", aka as Eric Clapton, one of the best guitar players ๐ŸŽธ in blues rock history from the 60s with legends such as John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, #Yardbirds and #Cream until today with a 40 years and counting career as a solo artist. He is surely one of the few #guitarist you immediately recognize after hearing few notes. Also his voice is immediately recognizable therefore #EricClapton is really one of a kind...plus he's a real living miracle ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ‘ if you only think or read about his longtime alcohol and drug abuse !
I post in the Chat Room๐Ÿ‘‡3 of my favorite Slowhand's numbers, from the 60s/70s, one with #BlindFaith, one with Derek & The Dominos, and one as Eric Clapton... you can of course post yours if you wish ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸคŸ

๐ŸŽผ3 September 1991. 30 years ago Stranger in This Town the first solo studio album by Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi wonderful #guitarist ๐ŸŽธis released, while the band was on a 17-month hiatus.
On this album appear his #BonJovi bandmates Tico Torres on drums ๐Ÿฅ and David Bryan on keyboards ๐ŸŽน plus guest masters such as Tony Levin and Randy Jackson on bass, #EricClapton on guitar! ๐ŸคŸ๐Ÿ” #3September #RichieSambora

This one is my favorite from that album๐Ÿ‘‡

๐ŸŽผ29 October 1946. Peter Green was born Peter Allen Greenbaum in London, UK: today he would turn 75 but he left this world in 2020 ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ.
#PeterGreen was one of the most appreciated and influential rock blues #guitarist ๐ŸŽธand songwriters of his generation (1960s-1970s), first replacing #EricClapton in the John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and later as founder and leader of Fleetwood Mac.
He left #FleetwoodMac in 1970 after writing and contributing to iconic songs on the band's first 3 albums. He started a solo career, but he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and soon was marginalized within the music business ๐Ÿ˜”
In 1977, Green was arrested for threatening his accountant David Simmons with a shotgun, in attempt to stop Simmons to send him money and royalties: Green apparently didn't want to live on his music, which for him had to remain just form of art!
In the Chat Room๐Ÿ‘‡ some music penned by Peter Green.

๐ŸŽผ27 November 1970. George Harrison releases his masterpiece, his third studio album (the first after the #Beatles break-up) entitled All Things Must Pass: it's a huge work (a triple album in fact) where #GeorgeHarrison releases all his spirituality, his tremendous songwriting and his trademark slide guitar sound ๐ŸŽธ
Major artists appear as musicians and/or co-writers in All Things Must Pass, to name a few: #BobDylan, #BillyPreston, #GaryWright, #RingoStarr, #DaveMason, #PeterFrampton, the entire band of #Badfinger and Harrison's longtime friend #EricClapton ๐ŸคŸ

Here's the most famous and best selling song from the album, I'm sure everyone heard it at some point: "My Sweet Lord". It's also the most controversial song for 2 reasons:
1- Harrison was engaged in an endless lawsuit for copyright infringement by American songwriter Ronnie Mack who in 1963 had a n.1 hit called "He's So Fine". Harrison always claimed he never realized that and even offered huge compensation on "My Sweet Lord" sales.
2- Most people think the song is a prayer to God, it is a sarcastic invitation to abandon religious sectarianism instead! Harrison had embraced Hindu belief years earlier when tavelling to India, and in the song we can hear the typical "Hare Krishna" chant.

๐ŸŽผ5 December 1938.
Raise your hands ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€ if you believe this is an Eric Clapton song!
For sure it is an #EricClapton classic, but Cocaine was penned and first performed by fantastic #guitarist songwriter J.J. Cale, born today John Weldon Cale in Oklahoma City, USA.
Clapton ๐ŸŽธhimself considered #JJCale one of his biggest influences and they became friends and often shared the stage.
In the Chat Room๐Ÿ‘‡ a legendary Cale/Clapton performance and that's it for today with Rock Legends ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿ”ฅ #5December

๐ŸŽผ Me and The Devil

Since they appeared on Earth, all forms of Music have always been associated with all forms of Evil... mainly with the Devil (an interesting story from past centuries ๐Ÿ‘‰ here).

#DeltaBlues is no exception, in particular in one of its leading artists Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 โ€“ August 16, 1938), whose life (and death) is surrounded by mistery and legend.
Like many bluesmen of the time, #RobertJohnson was itinerant and played mainly in street corners or small clubs: most of his music has been recorded at low fidelity in improvised studios as 10-inch 78 rpm singles, in 1937โ€“1938, just before his death.

Legend tells he sold his soul to the devil at a local crossroads to achieve musical success: his songs "Crossroads" and "Me and The Devil" seem to refer to that!
He died at 27 (first popular musician to be included in the infamous 27 Club) in unknown circumstances.

#EricClapton (like many others) consider RJ "the most important blues singer that ever lived."

๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŒท17 March 1944. Happy Birthday to Pattie Boyd from Taunton, England.
Sometimes you don't have to be a musician to have a space in Rock #MusicHistory!
If it wasn't for her George Harrison wouldn't write "Something" and "I Need You" (#Beatles), "I Live for You": if it was't for her Eric Clapton wouldn't write "Layla", "Bell Bottom Blues", "Wonderful Tonight"...
#PattieBoyd was married to #GeorgeHarrison from 1966 to 1977 and to #EricClapton from 1979 to 1989.
Clapton and Harrison were big friends... Clapton falled in love with Pattie and wrote songs for her when she was married to Harrison... and both knew it!

๐ŸŽผ On the other side of the Ocean: British Blues

And what was happening outside the US?
American music was invading and becoming popular in many other countries thanks to
๐Ÿ‘‰Jukeboxes, Radio programs and the first Record Stores.

UK for obvious reasons was the first country to witness an increasing interest in Rock'n'Roll in late 1950s and early 1960s.
In particular 2 figures were fundamental for the growth of the so called British Blues, which would lead to the "British Invasion" in a few years: Alexis Korner first with his Blues Incorporated and John Mayall later with his Bluesbreakers ๐Ÿ“ธโ˜๏ธ

Many British musicians who became famous in the 60s were part of these 2 projects, which today could be addressed as incubators: #MickJagger, #BrianJones, #JackBruce, #EricClapton to name a few, all started with ๐ŸŽงAlexis Korner and ๐ŸŽงJohn Mayall.
And literally every rock artist and band of the time, started a career after attending concerts of the both at the legendary Marquee Club.
Pioneers!

John Mayall with Eric Clapton
๐Ÿ“€ Blues Breakers
#RockBlues

60 years ago John Mayall from Cheshire, #UK released his debut studio album.

John Mayall was a key figure of the ๐Ÿ‘‰ British Blues movement since late 1950s. He focused on live activity and on the growth of Blues music in Britain.
When Eric Clapton left ๐Ÿ‘‰ the Yardbirds the both agreed he was the perfect guitarist to join Mayall's band.

The album contains 5 original songs and covers of #OtisRush, #FreddieKing, #RayCharles, #MoseAllison, #RobertJohnson, #MemphisSlim, #LittleWalter.
It is unanimously considered the quintessence of British Blues and one of the all time best Rock Blues albums!
