🎼27 March 1987. U2 play a rooftop concert in downtown Los Angeles, taking the idea from what The #Beatles did in their famous rooftop concert in London some decades before. 🀟🎸
They were intended to film their video for "Where The Streets Have No Name", one of my absolute favorite songs from my absolute favorite #U2 album, The Joshua Tree.
How the story went on... it's here in the official video πŸ‘‡ they somehow made history with that too! πŸ˜‰

🎼22 April 1966. 55 years ago 😳 The Beatles record a song that seems to come from another planet πŸŒ—
Something never heard before, if you consider the year (1966!) and the album in which it's included, Revolver, that contains typical #Beatles songs of the period like Eleanor Rigby or Yellow Submarine.
The track is Tomorrow Never Knows and some say it's the first attempt of Progressive Rock. It contains elements of psychedelia, musique concrète, avant-garde, oriental music and the recording technique was never used before.
#JohnLennon experience with LSD seems to have done the rest πŸ˜±πŸ˜‰
I like this song anyway πŸ‘, good for the evening... do you like it?

"The long and winding road
That leads to your door
Will never disappear
I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to your door..."

🎼27 November 1970. George Harrison releases his masterpiece, his third studio album (the first after the #Beatles break-up) entitled All Things Must Pass: it's a huge work (a triple album in fact) where #GeorgeHarrison releases all his spirituality, his tremendous songwriting and his trademark slide guitar sound 🎸
Major artists appear as musicians and/or co-writers in All Things Must Pass, to name a few: #BobDylan, #BillyPreston, #GaryWright, #RingoStarr, #DaveMason, #PeterFrampton, the entire band of #Badfinger and Harrison's longtime friend #EricClapton 🀟

Here's the most famous and best selling song from the album, I'm sure everyone heard it at some point: "My Sweet Lord". It's also the most controversial song for 2 reasons:
1- Harrison was engaged in an endless lawsuit for copyright infringement by American songwriter Ronnie Mack who in 1963 had a n.1 hit called "He's So Fine". Harrison always claimed he never realized that and even offered huge compensation on "My Sweet Lord" sales.
2- Most people think the song is a prayer to God, it is a sarcastic invitation to abandon religious sectarianism instead! Harrison had embraced Hindu belief years earlier when tavelling to India, and in the song we can hear the typical "Hare Krishna" chant.

🎼55 years ago, 1966 (!!!) #FrankZappa released his first studio album, Freak Out, along with his band The Mothers Of Invention.
Rock'n'Roll music was born only few years earlier and was still evolving, pioneers like #ElvisPresley, #LittleRichard, #ChuckBerry were still hitting the charts, #Beatles and #RollingStones were at the peak of their popularity, #JimiHendrix was non yet around, Prog Rock was far from coming... how could the world be ready in 1966 for such an innovative, uncompromising music composition and approach, harsh lyrics and virulent satire!?! 😳

Freak Out, like all Zappa's works which followed, was simply out of time and would probably be far ahead even today!

🎼🌷17 March 1944. Happy Birthday to Pattie Boyd from Taunton, England.
Sometimes you don't have to be a musician to have a space in Rock #MusicHistory!
If it wasn't for her George Harrison wouldn't write "Something" and "I Need You" (#Beatles), "I Live for You": if it was't for her Eric Clapton wouldn't write "Layla", "Bell Bottom Blues", "Wonderful Tonight"...
#PattieBoyd was married to #GeorgeHarrison from 1966 to 1977 and to #EricClapton from 1979 to 1989.
Clapton and Harrison were big friends... Clapton falled in love with Pattie and wrote songs for her when she was married to Harrison... and both knew it!

"If there was no Carl Perkins there would be no Beatles."
- #PaulMcCartney

In early 1960s the #Beatles started as a sort of #CarlPerkins cover band, often playing his hits "Blue Suede Shoes", "Matchbox", "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby", "Honey Don't".
#GeorgeHarrison sometimes even adopted the stage name Carl Harrison in honor of their biggest influence 🀟

The Beatles
πŸ“€ A Hard Day's Night
#Rock #PopRock #Pop

60 years ago The Beatles from Liverpool, #UK released their 3rd studio album.

A Hard Day's Night is the first #Beatles album to contain only songs written by the duo Lennon-McCartney and the first where George Harrison plays a 12-string guitar, thus popularizing instrument and sound.

Side A of the album is the #soundtrack of the film of the same name focused on the Beatlemania, starring the Fab Four themselves: it came out along with the album and both had an unprecedented commercial success!

A Hard Day's Night (film) is still considered one of the best music movies of all time and it basically influenced everything visual that came after (Musicals, TV Shows, Videoclips...).

In this album:
#JohnLennon β€“ vocals, guitars, harmonica, piano
#PaulMcCartney β€“ vocals, bass, piano, cowbell
#GeorgeHarrison β€“ vocals, guitars
#RingoStarr β€“ drums

Additional musician
#GeorgeMartin β€“ piano, production

🎼πŸŽ₯ As our friend from Austria guessed πŸ‘ #RobertSmith came in Venice as a member of #SiouxsieandtheBanshees. They shot a video in the city for this cover of an amazing #Beatles song.
This also proved to be the band's most successful single in 1984!

Funny how the places in this video are all in my #WalkingTour, mostly in #Cannaregio area.
Wish to see them? Come with me πŸ˜‰

πŸŽ₯ 50 years ago, August 1965.
Help! is the second film starring the Beatles following Lester's πŸ‘‰ A Hard Day's Night: it sees the group struggle to protect Ringo Starr from a sinister eastern cult and a pair of mad scientists, all of whom are obsessed with obtaining a sacrificial ring sent to him by a fan.

As for its predecessor, Help! is credited with influencing the development of music videos, and of course πŸ‘‰ its soundtrack album was a massive success.

πŸ“Έ 🎸 I always wondered what this lady was saying to the #Beatles on #8August 1969, few minutes before they took one of the most iconic photos in Rock'n'Roll history πŸ˜…

Let's imagine it...
🀩3
Turn off your mind
Relax and float down stream
It is not dying
It is not dying

Lay down all thoughts
Surrender to the void
It is shining
It is shining
