🎼 1956, Rockabilly Takes the Lead

Starting from January 1956, when a white guy called Elvis Presley made his first musical appearance on TV, causing mass hysteria among the youngsters, Rockabilly gave Rock'n'Roll to everyone, permanentely taking the new genre to the first Chart positions!
The term #Rockabilly was a mix of Rock'n'Roll music and Hillbilly, a derogatory word to identify white young rebels from the countryside or the mountains who generally caused unrest...
Attitude, rebellion, music, fashion, movies... James Dean style... everything was happening in those years for the triumph of Rock'n'Roll ❤️‍🔥

Articles on the main 1950s Rockabilly protagonists will follow... in the meantime

🎼 The "Rockabillies": Roy Orbison, The Lonely One
(April 23, 1936 - December 6, 1988)
Genres: #Rockabilly #RocknRoll

#RoyOrbison was one of a kind in the Rockabilly era: he was called "The Caruso of Rock'n'Roll" for his fantastic voice and in times when his fellow music mates were rivaling for masculinity and setting stages afire, Orbison was singing only about loneliness, broken love and vulnerability... plus he hid behind thick sunglasses 😎 for his stagefright!

Also incredible how his 2 major hits belong to the 1980s: his 1964 "Oh, Pretty Woman" was already his biggest number, but it sold millions in the 80s, first after 👉 Van Halen's cover and most notably after being the soundtrack to the iconic movie of the same name with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere!
The other big hit "You Got It" came out only in 1989, released posthumous after Roy's death... and was massive!

'Cause there ain't no cure for the summertime blues."

One of the most influential early Rockabilly singers - songwriters. His most famous hits "Twenty Flight Rock", "Summertime Blues", "C'mon Everybody" and "Somethin' Else" became favorite standards for so many future rock and punk bands, from #TheWho to #SexPistols, from #BlueCheer to #StrayCats.

Gone too soon at 21 😔 in a car accident when in England on tour with his friend and fellow rockabilly hero #GeneVincent.
