Il Balletto di Bronzo
πŸ“€ Ys
#ProgressiveRock #RPI

50 years ago Il Balletto di Bronzo from Naples, #Italy released their 2nd and final studio album entitled Ys.
The album, as often happened in those years for Italian Progressive Rock underground bands, had poor consideration and sales and IBdB disbanded soon.
And as often happened Ys was rediscovered and appreciated many years later like the entire RPI scene.

Ys, sang in Italian language, is a concept album about the last man left on Earth, who makes a hallucinating journey split in 3 encounters, before tragically disappearing in the dark, as happened to the mythological island of Ys swallowed by the waters.

#IlBallettodiBronzo in this album were:
Gianni Leone - vocals, synthetizes, keyboards
Lino Ajello - guitar
Vito Manzari - bass
Gianchi Stinga - drums
A female choir member was Giusy Romeo, in the 80s she became a famous pop singer in Italy, under the name of #GiuniRusso.

Quella Vecchia Locanda
πŸ“€ Quella Vecchia Locanda
#ProgressiveRock #RPI #NeoClassical

50 years ago Quella Vecchia Locanda from Rome, #Italy released their eponymous debut studio album.
This album, like their 1974 following one, is regarded as one of the greatest example of Italian Progressive Rock highly permeated of Neo Classical elements.
Complex, sophisticated, beautiful!

#QuellaVecchiaLocanda in this album were:
Giorgio Giorgi - lead vocals, flute, piccolo
Raimondo Maria Cocco - electric, acoustic & 12 string guitars, vocals
Massimo Roselli - piano, organ, Mellotron, Moog, electronic zither, spinet, vocals
Donald Lax - electric & acoustic violins
Romualdo Coletta - bass, frequency generator
Patrick Traina - drums, percussion

Locanda delle Fate

πŸ“€ Forse le Lucciole non si Amano piΓΉ
#ProgressiveRock #RPI

45 years ago Locanda delle Fate from Asti, #Italy released their debut and only studio album before disbanding (the band reunited 20 years later).
Forse le Lucciole non si Amano piΓΉ came out towards the end of the most prolific and experimental period in Rock history: the Progressive Rock era of late 60s and 70s.

This album was almost ignored and #LocandadelleFate had no commercial consideration.
This is though the perfect finale for all those years, a heavenly romantic hidden gem and a true absolute masterpiece!!!

Locanda delle Fate in this album were:
Leonardo Sasso: lead vocals
Ezio Vevey: guitars, vocals, flute
Alberto Gaviglio: guitars, vocals
Michele Conta: piano, Moog, clavinet, synthesizer
Oscar Mazzoglio: Hammond, piano, Moog, synthesizer
Luciano Boero: bass, Hammond
Giorgio Gardino: drums, vibraphone

#ProgressiveRock #RPI

50 years ago Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso from Rome, #Italy, released their 2nd studio album entitled Darwin!

7 months after their
πŸ‘‰ highly praised debut, #BancoDelMutuoSoccorso delivered another absolute masterpiece, widely considered one of the best Prog Rock albums in history.
As the title suggests Darwin! is a concept album on the evolution of life on Earth in prehistoric period.

In this album:
#PierluigiCalderoni - drums, timpani
#VittorioNocenzi - organ, harpsichord, synthesizer
#RenatoDAngelo - bass, double bass
#MarcelloTodaro - electric and acoustic guitar trumpet, backing vocals

Reale Accademia di Musica
πŸ“€ Reale Accademia di Musica
#ProgressiveRock #SymphonicRock #HardRock

50 years ago, in an undocumented date,  Reale Accademia Di Musica from #Rome, #Italy released their self-titled debut studio album.

In a year (1972) which probably was the best and most prolific for Progressive Rock genre and in a country (Italy) in which this kind of music chronically lacked of general attention and promotion, this album was almost ignored.
As many #RPI works #RealeAccademiadiMusica was re-discovered as a hidden gem and much appreciated by critics and fans of the genre in following years.

Simply amazing!

In this album:
#PericleSponzilli - guitar
#PierfrancoPavone - bass
#RobertoSenzasono - drums
#FedericoTroiani - piano, organ, mellotron, vocals
#HenrykTopelCabanes - vocals
Produced by #MaurizioVannelli of #Equipe84, and Italian #beat influences are apparent thoughout the album.

Pholas Dactylus
πŸ“€ Concerto Delle Menti
#ProgressiveRock #RPI

50 years ago Pholas Dactylus from #Milan #Italy, released their debut (and only) studio album in the 70s, the band would in fact split soon after, to reunite 40 years later.

Concerto Delle Menti is a musical journey divided into 2 sides-parts, to me really a hell of an album!

Vocals in Italian are entirely #SpokenWord, a psychedelic narration on biblical and apocalyptic visions abruptly cut at the album's end.
All accompanied by a guitar and piano driven crescendo in which elements of #JazzRock, #AvantGarde, #HeavyMetal, #SpaceRock and surprisingly #KrautRock (#PholasDactylus toured in fact only with Amon DΓΌΓΌl II in their short life) perfectly coexhist.

In this album:
#PaoloCarelli - voice
#EleinoColladet - guitars
#ValentinoGalbusera, #MaurizioPancotti - keyboards
#RinaldoLinati - bass
#GiampieroNava - drums

#VittorioDeScalzi (New Trolls) - production

Cervello
πŸ“€ Melos
#ProgressiveRock

50 years ago Cervello from #Naples, #Italy released their debut and only studio album.

Almost ignored at the time, like many short-lived #RPI projects, Melos became regarded in the years as one the highest examples of musical creativity and complexity that identified those magic and unrepeatable early 1970s.

In particular the guitar work of Corrado Rustici (brother of Danilo from πŸ‘‰ Osanna, who is also this record producer) and the vocals and poetic lyrics of Di Franco (later known in Italy for writing and singing the hit "Kalimba De Luna" along with Tony Esposito) have been highly appreciated.

In this album:
#AntonioSpagnolo – Bass, Acoustic Guitar, Effects, Recorder, Voice
#RemigioEsposito – Drums, Vibraphone
#CorradoRustici – Lead Guitar, Recorder, Flute, Vibraphone, Voice
#GianluigiDiFranco  – Lead Vocals, Flute, Percussion
#GiulioDAmbrosio – Saxophone, Flute, Voice

🎼🐣 Easter surprise from #TheMidnightSpecial archives.

They just published the performance of what is probably the only band from #Italy hosted in the show history... and it's a stunning one from Italian Progressive Rock masters Premiata Forneria Marconi in 1975 ❀️‍πŸ”₯

β™₯️#MidweekRockBallad

#Pooh recently played in St. Mark's Square, Venice for their first time. That was probably one of their last concerts after an extraordinary 60 years career (despite the name chosen for the band...).

Most people in #Italy only know (and want to hear) their many Pop hits, few remember they also were part of the unrepeatable 1970s #RPI scene...

This song has more than 50 years (1973), it's about the last thoughts of a pilot while his airplane is falling down.

"L'anno Γ¨ il 73, il posto Γ¨ il cielo artico, l'ora che senso ha..." ❀️‍πŸ”₯

Le Orme
πŸ“€ Contrappunti
#ProgressiveRock #SymphonicRock

50 years ago in an undocumented date, Le Orme from #Venice, #Italy released their 5th studio album.

Recorded in August 1974, Contrappunti is possibly the most complete album in #LeOrme classic discography.
Complex instrumental compositions alternate with the typical Italian "canzone" in a contrasted crescendo that leads to the epic, haunting finale "Maggio".

If you can instantly fall in love with their previous πŸ‘‰ Felona e Sorona, Contrappunti requires more and more listenings to be fully appreciated. Amazing album ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#TonyPagliuca – keyboards, synthetizers
#AldoTagliapietra – vocals, bass, guitars
#MichiDeiRossi – drums, percussion

Special Guest
#GianPieroReverberi (later
πŸ‘‰ Rondo Veneziano) – piano, producer

#QuellaVecchiaLocanda disbanded in fact after the release. This album, like their πŸ‘‰ 1972 debut, is regarded as one of the greatest example of Neo Classical "pastoral" Rock Progressivo Italiano (#RPI).

In this album:
#GiorgioGiorgi - vocals, flute, piccolo
#RaimondoMariaCocco - guitars, vocals

#HeavyMetal #DoomMetal #OccultRock #ProgressiveRock #PsychedelicRock

40 years ago Black Hole from #Verona, #Italy released their debut studio album.

#BlackHole were founded in 1981 as a Heavy Prog band with influences ranging from Black Sabbath to #RPI (Rock Progressivo Italiano).

After years of underground, the band finally recorded this album in Spring 1985 at Diamine Studio in Venice.
Land Of Mystery is Black Hole only album in the original formation, they disbanded in 1987.
Vocalist and leader #RobertMeasles released 2 more albums as Black Hole in 2000 and 2017.

In this album you can hear Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, Jacula, Goblin, Death SS, Paul Chain altogether.

Lesson learned, absolute gem🀘

The amazing melancholic ballad "Amico Di Ieri" became one of the most known and successful singles for Le Orme.

The album partly deceived fans and critics and #LeOrme themselves would not consider it "a work to be proud of".

Probably it's because I'm a rocker, but I totally love this album, one of my favorites from them ❀️‍πŸ”₯

In this album:
#ToloMarton β€“ guitar, vocals, harmonica
#TonyPagliuca – keyboards
#AldoTagliapietra – bass, acoustic guitar, vocals
#MichiDeiRossi β€“ drums, percussion

This is the last Le Orme album produced by Maestro #GianPieroReverberi.

Picchio Dal Pozzo
πŸ“€ Picchio Dal Pozzo
#ProgressiveRock #ExperimentalRock #AvantProg

50 years ago, in an undocumented date, Picchio Dal Pozzo from #Genoa, #Italy released their self-titled debut album.

The band was founded by Aldo De Scalzi, key figure for the development of Progressive Rock in #Liguria and #Lombardy regions. He owned a studio and record label along with his brother Vittorio, founder of New Trolls, and in the years worked with Latte e Miele, Museo Rosenbach, Alphataurus, Pholas Dactylus to name a few.

After finally publishing
πŸ‘‰ Celeste debut album that year, De Scalzi gathered with friends and collaborators to record and release this album which is considered unique in the Italian Progressive Rock panorama.

#PicchioDalPozzo is rather different from all #RPI releases, often associated with the #Canterbury scene (the album is in fact dedicated to Robert Wyatt) and even compared with some of Frank Zappa's finest compositions.

🎸🎢 It's election period here in Venice. The city will have a new mayor next month.

What a perfect timing to meet Luca, a young guitarist co-founder of a local band called The Mayor Is Stoned🀘😁

I was astonished to find out that behind this funny monicker, there's a young band that takes you 50 years back, when #RPI (Rock Progressivo Italiano) was one of the most respected and praised music movement of that unrepeatable decade.

#TheMayorIsStoned perfectly blend late 60s Heavy Psychedelic Rock influences with 70s Jazz Rock vibes, to me reminiscent of the British #Canterbury scene and Italian acts such as Osanna, Area, NapoliCentrale, Maxophone.

Great and suprising band, unique in the local scene I would say, if you are in the area don't miss their live dates!!!
