40 years ago an obscure rock band from #Venice, #Italy called Death In Venice released their self-produced debut album.
The young Venetian band was put up by the 2 brothers Russo, highly influenced by the early 1980s Dark Wave scene: they took the band's name after the film
👉 Death In Venice and the album's title played on the atmosphere of that movie... which is pure decadence in fact!
Deca Dance was issued only in cassette and became a rare collectible, the band itself remained underground throughout its lifetime:
👉 Contempo Records label in #Florence signed the band in 1985 and released their following albums.

It's a concept album about the story of 2 planets, Felona and Sorona, which would never meet but can't live without each other, one being in perennial light and the other in perennial darkness.
Felona E Sorona was undoubtedly the most crucial album in #LeOrme career.
#PeterHammill, at the time leader and mastermind of Van Der Graaf Generator, became a big fan and friend of Le Orme and collaborated with them for this album, by suggesting its title and translating the lyrics for its English Version, thus paving the way for their following UK Tour.

35 years ago, in an undocumented date, Dark Lord from #Venice, #Italy released their 1st and only full-lenght album (their previous releases were demos and EPs).
After important line-up changes in the years, #DarkLord seemed to have finally reached a stable formation, with guitarist Alex De Rosso replacing 👉 Alex Masi and a fantastic vocalist like Emanuell Jandee from #Belluno, #Dolomites.
But tragedy was around the corner for this unlucky band: Jandee collapsed on stage during a concert and passed away few days later due to a sudden illness aged 27 (another "member" of the infamous club).
Dark Lord disbanded afterwards.

35 years ago Alex Masi from #Venice, #Italy released his debut solo album.
Attack Of The Neon Shark was recorded in Los Angeles, #USA, where Alex moved in 1986. In this album some of his friends appear as guest musicians, most notably drummer #FrankieBanali, guitarist #AllanHoldsworth (who plays his synth-axe), one of Masi's main inspirations, and #DavidMichaelPhilips (additional guitar/bass).
The album starts with a typical #HairMetal song (#JeffScottSoto on vocals and #Kuni guitar solo), reminiscent of the past 👉 MASI albums.
The remaining tracks are instrumental and show all #AlexMasi guitar skills (he also plays bass and keyboards) which led to a Grammy nomination for best 1989 intrumental rock: Alex Masi became a guitar hero!
"Toccata" is a guitar rendition of the 👉 ELP composition.

The band moved to Los Angeles, California to record Smogmagica and the entire album, both musically and lyrically, is inspired by their American experience.
Its title refers to the polluted atmosphere they encountered in the city and the cover artwork by #PaulWhitehead (designer for Genesis and Van Der Graaf Generator) is also inspired by Los Angeles.
But what makes this album unique in #LeOrme career is its guitar-driven sound, different from all other works from them: the band hired in fact wonderful guitarist Tolo Marton from #Treviso (his only appearance with Le Orme), who actively took part in the songwriting and brought in his bluesy style, even introducing elements of Country and Boogie Rock.

40 years ago Gigi Masin from #Venice, #Italy composed his debut studio album.
Masin was a self-taught musician and composer, far from music business rules.
Wind was in fact not released and distributed, Masin printed few hundred copies for himself, some of which got destroyed after a flood. Those who wanted to buy Wind had to write him and possibly go to his house in Venice.
It became soon a cult album among musicians, artists like Björk and Nujabes often used samplings from it.
After many years Masin found out on the internet that the price for a copy of Wind had raised to 1000€, he then decided to reprint and distribute the album for everyone to enjoy and afford.
