📜💥 21 March 1945. "Bomb Day" in Venice... and still today we have aftermath 🤷♂️.
I just took a picture of the Church of Santa Maria di Lourdes here in Venice Mestre 📷☝️, I guess some of you can remember it, 5 minutes walk from my #VeniceRocksRoom - home, next to a bar we used to go.
This church was completly rebuilt after World War II (you can see a picture of how it was like before). The story is... war was about to end in 1945 but the Allies decided to bomb 💣 Venice #Marghera Port ⛴, because they believed this was the only way for already defeated German troops to get supplies from the sea. In the morning of March 21 RAF (British Royal Air Force) airplanes heavily bombed Marghera port in what was called Operation Bowler.
As it always happens in war bombings... something gets "wrong" 😔, therefore many buildings in #Mestre got destroyed, the church in the picture too ☝️
Venice historical centre was fortunately preserved from that 🙏🏻

🎼29 June 1948. Happy Birthday 🥳🍾 to Mr. Ian Paice, "The Chief", a living drumming 🥁 legend, born Ian Anderson Paice in Notthingham, England.
Drummer for Deep Purple for a lifetime and the only original member of the band (since 1968!!!), Paice is widely regarded as one of the best drummers in history! 🙌🔝
Despite that Ian has always been a down to earth guy, I met him few times here in Venice, he used to come down in the area every summer and play concerts with local musicians and #DeepPurple cover bands. Like in this video with his friend Italian guitar master Tolo Marton 🎸, taken from #Marghera Estate Village 2012, a local festival they don't do anymore👇

📜💥 World War II ended 80 years ago... few months before its end Venice #Mestre and #Marghera were heavily bombed, exactly 80 years ago on #21March 1945.
