🎼12 April 1944. Happy Birthday 🥳🍾 to John Kay (born Joachim Fritz Krauledat in Prussia, East Germany), singer, guitarist and frontman for late 60s and early 70s American rock band Steppenwolf.
#Steppenwolf are worldwide famous just for 1 song everyone knows: Born To Be Wild 🤟😈 which was anthem and landmark for the entire "rock hippie rebel" #Woodstock generation of the late 60s, perfectly pictured and sublimated by #EasyRider movie, for which this song was the soundtrack!
A couple of years ago (or in the previous life as you prefer 🤷‍♂️) it was my pleasure to host here in Venice 😳 former Steppenwolf Tour Manager, and it was great to hear from him some... "nice stories" 😉🙏🏻🔝
For John Kay's 76th Birthday 🎂 I chose a less famous Steppenwolf song written by him ("Born to Be Wild" is in fact not penned by Steppenwolf): Magic Carpet Ride which was later covered by many rock bands 🎸💪🏻

🎼19 January 1947. Rod Evans would be 75 today... but nobody knows whether he's still alive 😳
I've always been fascinated by this kind of Rock Stories: famous musicians who suddenly retire from the scenes and completely disappear!
#RodEvans was the first #vocalist of Deep Purple in 1968. After recording the first 3 albums, #DeepPurple substituted him with #IanGillan, who they considered more rock oriented.

Rod went on to form #CaptainBeyond who released a couple of great Hard Rock albums 🤟
In late 1970s Rod was approached by a questionable management company who convinced him to tour with former #Steppenwolf musicians under the name of Deep Purple 🤦‍♂
A lawsuit followed and the real Deep Purple easily won the controversy: Rod Evans lost all royalties for being an original member, after that he completely disappeared!
Deep Purple members attempted to contact him in following years just to say hallo, but without success and still today after more than 40 years, they don't know anything about Rod 🤷‍♂

55 years ago Steppenwolf from Los Angeles, #USA released their self-titled debut studio album.

#Steppenwolf was a great commercial success in the years, mainly thanks to its iconic songs "Born To Be Wild" and "The Pusher" which served as soundtrack to the 1969 milestone Easy Rider!

If some days earlier 👉 Blue Cheer released perhaps the first Heavy Metal album, in Steppenwolf the term "Heavy Metal" was first used in a song (again "Born To Be Wild", one of the most covered songs ever) 🤘

This album also contains a cover of #MuddyWaters "Hoochie Coochie Man".
